Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this, and any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Wow, I’m first!
Thanks Glad 👏🏼

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/08/2026 16:34

There’s water coming out of the sky! Help!

Thehorticulturalhussie · 20/08/2026 16:42

Meanwhile, anchored somewhere secluded on the Potomac, we are awaiting the return of The Virago Vixens who have successfully exfiltrated rescued Emily. Judging by her expression I think that her adventuring days may be over.

The VVs are being very mysterious and keep going into little huddles. Apparently they are now much in demand and have been asked to provide a security detail for a family flying soon from LA to London and it’s all shrouded in secrecy. Yet again I ‘do not need to know’
They claim that the whole world will be watching them. As if.

Is anyone else now curious about @MyrtleLion’s Character List Document?

AsWithGlad · 20/08/2026 17:44

Hussie, I have spent some time wondering how sewing machine bobbins are connected to the VVs’s assignment.

That last thread filled up so fast!

I’m happy to help unpack the craft corner. But I didn’t realise we had camels - that is excellent. I think there was a Turkish ruler who wanted to travel with his entire library, so the camels carrying his books were trained to walk in alphabetical order. I like that degree of organisation.

Well now I’m wondering too??

I heard that he also trained bookworms to line up in Dewey Decimal order.

Evening all. I fancy the idea of camelid library assistants. I am (probably) getting a big new bookshelf soon, and in advance of its arrival am having to clear space to get it into the study and against a wall. Easier written than done.

Nice thread!

It's been a busy (heritage) week, but phase one of our women's history project has been launched and favourably received, the nature walk did a good job of inducing rain, friendly visitors came to see what we get up to at craft club, we hope some of them will come back, and I attended a couple of church tours with lots of (late 19th, early 20thC) stained glass.

The garden is up to 16 colchicums and 7 cyclamen, which is nice given that this time last year they were still swamped by chest-high nettles and alexanders.

I'll have to hire in help to clear excess brambles and elders, but am NOT PANICKING, NO, I'M NOT.

Magpiecomplex · 20/08/2026 18:19

Thanks for the new thread Glad!

Thanks Woley! I love the idea of alphabetical camels.

I think @chickadeeinme booked a wake up call for the new thread, hope I've got the name right!

RumNotRun · 20/08/2026 18:44

Evening everyone (or whatever time of day it is where you are). Do the spirits need putting back on shelves and quality testing? I'll do it anyway as I have given up alcohol at home. I wonder what weird and wonderful spirits the gerbils have hidden on the lower shelves...

Magpiecomplex · 20/08/2026 18:50

Given we now seem to have a convent on site, I expect we've got all sorts of weird herbal liqueurs hidden on the lower shelves.

AngleofRepose · 20/08/2026 18:54

Here I am! I'll just put the Atlas in the library, then come back and help unpack the craft stuff. Thanks for the new Bluestocking, @AsWithGlad !

AngleofRepose · 20/08/2026 18:57

Odd, the new thread is not showing up on my list of recently updated threads! Anyone else having that problem? If so, we might need to send out notifications to Bluestockingers that we have moved.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/08/2026 18:59

That’s weird! It’s showing in Active for me.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/08/2026 19:04

Kitty will lurk in the poplars at home time & bring Graphic & the others to the new BS.

AngleofRepose · 20/08/2026 19:11

Still not showing in "most recently updated" for me, but I have it in Active??? (Mumsnet hates my old phone, or my phone hates MN!) I usually wait until I can use my iPad. Nevermind, as long as Kitty can show the undercover gerbils where we've gone, they'll be fine!

I'm here. Thanks for the new thread Glad.

I'll fill up the hot chocolate bowser for anyone who wants one - and Rum, if you find the bottle of Baileys while you are organising the spirits, would you send it down this way, please?

AngleofRepose · 20/08/2026 19:19

@Magpiecomplex hope you manage to get some dinner soon! I'm off to make mine now.

EdithStourton · 20/08/2026 19:24

Arriving with tractors...

By the way, I loved the boots, but I'd fall off them, so they're safe from me.

It's easily done, I've accidentally started Bluey threads in Feminism Chat before.
