It's an interesting conversation

www.tiktok.com/@meetthealis/video/7503903907920317718. Is this unfeminist to feel like this or do they have a point?

Any word on how you think those modesty laws should be enforced in the UK?

And by the way, any time you suggest a Middle Eastern country as a model we should follow here, you're showing yourself up for a misogynist. You want women to go back to being oppressed.

As I've said many times not all middle eastern countries are the same. The ones I have mentioned tend to be much safer for women.
Which has been acknowledged by people in this thread who have lived both there and the uk

Oh come on. That's a lot rarer than what women wear to clubs and you know it.
I just don't understand why so many of you like to play dumb.
Just look at this video.

Look at the difference between how the girls are dressed and how the guys are dressed in the background

How about you stop posting random TikToks (the irony!)as arguments and actually post an actual source to your claim that short skirts came from pedophiles.

leftorrightnow · 08/06/2025 21:48

Women get assaulted regardless of what they wear. That shouldn’t be news to anyone?

at the same time I try to discourage my 10 year old DD who’s already developing from wearing low cut tops and crops and super short skirts, as she wants to a lot of the time. I don’t think she should be sexualised at such an early age and do worry if she dresses more revealing it’s put her more at the risk of SA. However it’s a very tricky line to draw because I also don’t want her to feel ashamed of her growing body or responsible for others reactions to it. But at the end of the day I just want her to be safe and so I’m trying to prevent her from appearing sexualised at this age. She’ll revel soon enough but then she’ll be old enough to hopefully protect herself a bit better than now.

But which country in the Middle East manages to be 'safe' for women whilst not being horrific in terms of women's rights? You haven't named any yet. (Because there aren't any).

Bex5490 · 08/06/2025 20:59

So would this ‘segregation’ be forced or optional.

Because I don’t object to having optional single sex spaces for women.

Why not have a women’s gym or carriage…I just don’t want to be forced to use them.

Why wouldn't you want to use them If you are a woman?
Certain things would be forced certain would be optional

None of it. That's the point. OP's contention re paedophiles is BS.

It's not.
BTW why are grown women wearing children clothes?
Why are grown women wearing pieces of clothing that would fit children much better than they would fit them because they are too short for them?

Short skirts were made fashionable in recent times in the 60ies by the women’s liberation movements insisting on freedom to dress at they wanted.

but short skirts are common throughout different cultures and times and have been common clothing items for women - and men! - in eg latin America and Africa. Come
to think of it, one of the most famous Iron Age remains found in Denmark, the Eigtved Girl, look it up, was wearing a very short skirt.

fashion comes and goes. Men blaming women for sexual assaults seems to be an enduring trend, however.

Do women get a choice in using them?

Some things yes some no choice.
Why would you not want to use women only services if you are a woman?

I have two genuine questions for you.

  1. Why are you so fixated on the small percentage of stranger rape rather than the vast majority which happens at the hands of men (predominantly partners, then family , then friends etc) that are known to women?
  2. Let’s say we do all these things you say , what happens when rape doesn’t stop or decrease ?What would you propose next?

Saying 'it's not' is not the same as providing evidence that miniskirts were invented and promoted by paedophiles. So until you provide such evidence, I'm calling BS.

Grown women are wearing the clothes they want to wear because they want to wear them.

Because I might like to spend time with men? As in, interact with them in a non-sexual way? Or even in a flirtatious, sexual way if I so choose?

Why do you want to put women in boxes? Why do you want to oppress women but allow men complete freedom to do what they want?

Why not just teach boys and men to behave decently. Seems a lot simpler.

they have gender segregation in some countries. The Taleban are doing a stellar job of it in Afghanistan, for example. Seems a wonderful way for women to live. So safe.

my experience w gender segregation is it just makes men more out of control because they don’t learn how to behave around women. And that behaviour then leads to the false conclusion that more gender segregation is needed. And so the viscous cycle ensues.

Hadmysay · 08/06/2025 21:58

hagchic · 08/06/2025 21:12

@Hadmysay You've had far too much to say and I am rather sick of listening to your victim blaming nonsense.

Women can wear what they like in this country.

Women and men who try to control what others wear need to take a good look at themselves and ask why do they need to control other people and their choices.

Live your life and leave other people alone. Stop pretending to care about others when all you want is control over them.

News flash we are being controlled already.
Hence why we have laws on murder, theft etc.

A very good question. I imagine the answer to 1 is that OP would like to see rape within marriage or relationships made legal again.

And rape outside marriage blamed on the “slutty” women tempting men beyond reasonable self-control.

Laws on murder and theft apply equally to men and women. Your modesty laws would only apply to women. How are you so limited that you cannot see this?

leftorrightnow · 08/06/2025 22:04

Another genuine question for you OP - do you really hold men in such low esteem that you don’t think they can learn to control themselves not to assault women? Regardless of what women wear? Do you think men are inferior human beings who can’t discern right from wrong?

Bex5490 · 08/06/2025 22:05

OP is clearly a troll - or a man - or a man troll.

I’m just unsure of the purpose of putting this thread here…

Obviously there isn’t going to be agreement on a feminist thread that women should be locked up for flashing an ankle…

So it has to be a wind up surely.

Hadmysay · 08/06/2025 22:06

pointythings · 08/06/2025 21:17

Which ones aren't, as in which ones permit their women the same rights they have here in the West?

Mind you I'm disinclined to believe anything from someone who thinks women should be imprisoned for immodest dress. Are you also suggesting men should be imprisoned for immodest dress, and what would immodest dress for men look like?

Indecency should affect both genders.
Although women in (western countries anyway) have a knack of objectifying themselves far more than men.
It's funny how I don't seen schoolboys modifying their clothes to make everything shorter. It's also funny how most men go to clubs dressing fully clothed but women dont.

We frown upon the objectification of the female body by making men stop objectifying the female body. Not by putting women back into their box. At this point I'm even doubting that you're a woman. You sound like the worst kind of woman hating man.

You sound like the worst kind of woman hating man.

I'm a woman. You do know a lot of women even feminists would actually agree with me and would be disgusted by how we have managed to create debauched society full of objectification.
Ironically this brings me to another problem
So would most women who are on the Frontline.
Women that actually work with victims of sex based crimes because they see the damage that many of you actually dont. Because you aren't on the Frontline.
Maybe we should gatekeep the word feminism that you need to work with victims of sex based crimes and violence....
