Why does it feel like the world is regressing?

It's a weird kind of "online community" that is built around self-sexism, the idea that this is a "girl" thing, and not a young people thing.

It’s a bit of fun to justify ✨ any ✨ spending - not just if it’s frivolous nor is it saying all girls are frivolous spenders as PP suggested. Sometimes, shockingly, younger women are allowed to have a bit of fun and don’t need older women breathing down their necks waiting for an opportunity to berate them 🙄

I’m not an ‘older woman’ though, so I am allowed an opinion?

CrankyMode · 01/07/2024 16:41

PuddlesPityParty my teenage dd thinks the ad is cringe and sexist. She finds shopping and maths super fun!!! 😝The sexist and dumb idiocy of the advert puts her totally off this product and she won't be wasting her shopping or maths skills there. HTH

genandtonic · 01/07/2024 21:20

Well given that this shop sells testosterone online with no safeguards what do you expect.
furious.

Define older please. Anything above Gen Z, which it’s aimed at, is older.

Cool good for her. But I hope your daughter doesn’t judge the girls who have a bit of fun and use their terms like their judgemental mother. HTH.

Which girls and what kind of fun are they having? Do you mean they find looking at the ad fun? Buying croissants? Forgoing croissants? Applying lip gloss? I disagree that sexism is fun, on the contrary, it undermines fun.

I'm also confused how critiquing an overtly sexist ad is judgemental 😂 are you the mummy of the ad designer?

This is such awful copywriting (with typos) and so amateurish I wonder whether it’s not even from Superdrug at all. Could it be a scam OP? Or a joke?
I’m a conceptual copywriter and I cannot imagine any marketing department approving this.

Apart from the feminist issue it just feels like it was written by someone on work experience.

I had to wonder if this was a genuine mail out too. I’m you’re every day basic idiot, but even to my eyes it’s a terribly put together piece of marketing, and that’s not including obvious typos and poor grammar.

MangoJojo · 02/07/2024 07:46

Oops. My “you’re” was entirely accidental, but you can see what I mean.

mitogoshi · 02/07/2024 07:54

Girl maths in our house is currently studying for postgraduate professional diploma in nuclear physics... not what concealer to use!

These flippant things make me angry

Female software architect here. I totally see your concern.

'Girl math' is a trend popular on tik tok and social media at the moment, superdrug are just using the term to advertise to their main market; young women. Its really not something to be all uppity about.

It is if you object to the concept of girl math. I’ve never heard of ‘boy math’.

HollyKnight · 02/07/2024 08:50

"Boy math" has been around for over a year too. It pokes fun at the hypocritical an nonsensical stuff men say, think and do.

Believing a woman having sex with 30 men will give her a loose vagina, but having sex 30 times with the same man will not.

Wanting zero children, yet using zero condoms.

Being 6ft tall, yet are the same height as their 5'5" girlfriend in 3" heels.

Again, nothing to do with math.

CatMumSlave · 02/07/2024 08:56

Don't eat. Look nice 😁😁

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 02/07/2024 09:02

The trend started with boy math to poke fun at men.

hoggyhedge · 02/07/2024 10:24

Boy spelling?

CrankyMode · 02/07/2024 15:16

Maybe the spotty work experience boy did it.

Soooooo, superdrug, you're saying we should make ourselves attractive to the male gaze instead of being nice to ourselves?
Yeah it'll be a no for me ta 😘

Boy grammar.

Yet another case of UK people watching far too much TV, thinking they are on a American TV show, and adopting American personalities and sayings as a result.

Let's stick with MATHS.
