What an odious, misogynist he truly is.

GB News suspends Laurence Fox over comments about journalist Ava Evans - BBC News

He said, of female journalist Ava Evans: "Show me a single self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman - ever, ever. That little woman has been fed, spoon-fed oppression day after day after day. And she's sat there and I'm going like, 'If I met you in a bar and that was like sentence three, [the] chances of me just walking away are just huge." He then added: "Who'd want to shag that?"

That Little Woman??? Why is he reducing her value to whether or not he would have sex with her - firstly what the fuck has that got to do with her worthiness as a human being or indeed her job as a journalist. Secondly, why is he arrogantly assuming that she WANT to shag him anyway, I've no doubt she wouldn't touch that loathsome prick with a shitty stick.

He also goes on to say ""We need powerful strong, amazing women who make great points for themselves." Sorry, what?? A woman made a point you didn't agree with and the first thing you did was mock, degrade and dehumanise her. Stop back-peddling, it's too late - we see you, you sexist prick.

Thank you can't believe how many people applauding the treatment of Fox just because they don't like him. I feel sorry for him, he obviously has poor mental health and needs some help. Fed up with all the cancellation going on and only for anti establishment types.

No one's 'cancelling' Fox. He's doing a pretty decent job of discrediting himself.

I can't use my work - or even my social media under the banner of work - to denigrate someone on the basis of their sexual unattractiveness. I'd be fired if I did, whether under my employer's jurisdiction or simply on a public platform, for bringing my profession into disrepute.

Similarly, if I used a public platform to incite others to commit a criminal offence, and told them I'd be joining them and stated exactly when and where I could be found, I'd confidently expect a visit from the plod.

The state of my mental health would not save me from either of those eventualities. Fox does appear mentally unwell, but plenty of people are mentally unwell and don't go around behaving like this.

I'm unsure why the rules and laws the rest of society has to live by apparently don't apply to Fox.

Yes that is right but the entertainment biz has always been different from a normal place of work. Eg if I did at work what those people on naked attraction do I'd be sacked, or swore or advertised that I take drugs like many in that world do It is the double standards I'm talking about as I've explained several times.

What was she supposed to have done to be arrested?

Right I saw it in the post above.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 05/10/2023 23:44

Just imagining the repercussions I would face if I publicly (and in a work environment) declared "well I wouldn't shag him" about a male younger employee.

Employment law applies equally to everyone. It's only gargantuan egos like Fox's and Brand's who peddle the belief that they're being specially singled out.

Imagine for one minute buying into their narrative. A ubiquitous, sinister 'THEY' who are powerful enough to rule the planet and pull the strings from behind the scenes, to the extent that every world citizen believes every word they say (and are all stupid excepting those who claim to see through 'mainstream' propaganda), are scared because some fruitcake conspiracy theorists are exposing the status quo as it 'really' is.

Is a sinister force of such insidious, far-reaching power going to feel really threatened by the uber-sophisticated, searingly intellectual 'analysis' of the likes of Fox and Brand? One of them can't even articlate what it is he actually stands for beyond 'boat people', 'free speech', 'woke', 'evil feminists', and 'blah'. The other thinks spouting polysyllabic discourse in the style of codename 'V for Vendetta' will have everyone convinced he's some kind of genuis who possesses insights others lack (so he must therefore provide this for them).

Parklife!

Were these men not so pathetic, (and in one case worse besides), they'd be hilarious.

And they're still bound by the laws - including employment law - the rest of us have to live by. Entertainment industry or not.

Yeah I get it you don't like Fox and Brand but think Packham is the bees knees. So how does any of that explain how come Jonathan Ross was allowed to stay at the BBC under "employment law." I don't think most people would be able to do phone an elderly person and shout about a colleague shagging their grand daughter and still have a job either. Once again for the hard of hearing it's about the double standards applied to GB News I object to.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/10/2023 11:27

There are no double standards applied to GB news. They didn't have to sack Fox, they chose to.

SerafinasGoose · 06/10/2023 11:33

Grow up.

Eh? After your ramblings about boat people, woke, evil feminism etc that is pretty hilarious.

The BBC suspended him and he then left of his own volition. A PP above has already clearly detailed this.

Shouting 'double standards' ad nauseam isnt going to make them suddenly appear. Not that I'd accuse anyone of being 'hard or hearing', or even the old Mumsnet favourite of a lack of reading comprehension, but constantly caterwauling 'double standards' or 'you like blah but you don't like blah!', whilst not engaging with any of the reasonable points made upthread, doesn't exactly convince anyone, or amount to any kind of persuasive position.

One incited others to break the law. The other discussed the ethical ramifications of breaking the law. Double standards can hardly be claimed when the standards being discussed in the first place bear absolutely no resemblance to one another.

But you already knew this.

Switcher · 06/10/2023 11:40

It's possible to simultaneously think he needs help with his mental health/alcohol issues, and think he deserved to get fired. Although the weird thing I suppose is that in the 90s, that sort of bantz was standard late night TV. Wouldn't even have registered.

Coveescapee · 06/10/2023 12:29

Yes exactly switcher. I have no problem with him being sacked, I just wish other channels were held to the same high standard. And its not just Ross there are lots of things on mainstream channels which are grossly offensive and sexist. Things have got alot worse since the 90s. But it's being used as part of an agenda to get GB News shut down. The establishment has form on this censorship they just want the public to here their narrative and not question.
