What an odious, misogynist he truly is.

GB News suspends Laurence Fox over comments about journalist Ava Evans - BBC News

He said, of female journalist Ava Evans: "Show me a single self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman - ever, ever. That little woman has been fed, spoon-fed oppression day after day after day. And she's sat there and I'm going like, 'If I met you in a bar and that was like sentence three, [the] chances of me just walking away are just huge." He then added: "Who'd want to shag that?"

That Little Woman??? Why is he reducing her value to whether or not he would have sex with her - firstly what the fuck has that got to do with her worthiness as a human being or indeed her job as a journalist. Secondly, why is he arrogantly assuming that she WANT to shag him anyway, I've no doubt she wouldn't touch that loathsome prick with a shitty stick.

He also goes on to say ""We need powerful strong, amazing women who make great points for themselves." Sorry, what?? A woman made a point you didn't agree with and the first thing you did was mock, degrade and dehumanise her. Stop back-peddling, it's too late - we see you, you sexist prick.

GB News presenter Laurence Fox. He is seen looking into the camera.

I watch GBN regularly. It's mostly a misogynist cesspit of misinformation with a couple of decent presenters/shows.

I'm loving the drama.Grin

The drama is indeed fun.

When Lozza outed Dan earlier was the best bit so far.

He's also gone after JHB.

He's going to have no mates left by the end of the day.

fedupandstuck · 27/09/2023 17:24

Hmm, by "here" I assumed you did indeed mean the feminist boards. I haven't seen any threads about the attractiveness of Boris, and I don't recall any female journalist ripping into him as to how she wouldn't dream of shagging him because he held a different opinion.

If you can't see the misogyny in referring to a journalist as a "little woman" and reducing her to her level of attractiveness... well I'd argue you're deliberately not looking.

popebishop · 27/09/2023 17:31

He's gross, and extremely dim. About as dim as the people who actually need someone to type out for them that feminists think misogyny is bad.... 😂
.

LunaNorth · 27/09/2023 17:45

If I was Billie Piper, I’d really struggle to let my lads stay at their dad’s.

What a terrible role model.

I agree @fedupandstuck this from a journalist on TV is gross and unacceptable, and different from women on here (MN) doing it, or people on twitter (as Ava E has) or in the pub.
That's my point about context. He got it horribly wrong.

But a change of contexr doesn't make it more misogynistic, it just makes it very poorly judged. he thought he was reading the room because DW smirked but he really misjudged it as even his mates are deserting him.

I'm just a bit tired of Moral Outrage tbh and everything being an ist or a phobe. Really tired of it.

Yes he was a twat and he should go, but I can't pretend I Have Never Heard Such Terribleness in My Life.

I have. A lot. On MN. Just not on the news.
I think it's OK on MN, if that's your thing, but not on the news.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 17:52

But yes, I find the misogyny comments overblown. (He might have said other hateful stuff I'm not aware of...)

Fox is an MRA, the misogyny drips from him.

Simonjt · 27/09/2023 18:05

Managing to get suspended from GB news is actually quite impressive. The only downside is that his loyal fans will use this as yet another excuse to support him, just as with Brand, unfortunately the hardcore continue to become more and more extreme.

It would maybe be best all round if the press decided to complete ignore him, sadly any attention furthers his cause.

Furryrug · 27/09/2023 18:06

Brewdug · 27/09/2023 10:51

The host presenter (Dan Wooten?) also laughing at those comments. It will be interesting to see if there is any fallout for him too.

Interesting Wooton is not being held to account by GB News for what he's (allegedly) been up to, but they've swooped in to suspend Fox for this immediately.

Exactly what I thought

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 18:08

Wootton's been suspended too.

KandieKaine · 27/09/2023 18:11

I've been described as a strong woman by men . A feminist, a bitch . Difficult and awkward . Because I stand up for myself . They want soft pretty fluffy little women who don't say no. Why are men so scared of strong women that they have to take them down ?

sadaboutmycat · 27/09/2023 18:14

There's a real link between this behaviour, and the murder of a 15yo girl who dared to say 'no' to a boy this morning.

EtiennePalmiere · 27/09/2023 18:26

RebelliousCow · 27/09/2023 11:02

Obviously the comments about " shagging" and so on are completely out of order.

I disagree strongly with Ava evans comments about " culture wars" and men not needing their own representation because it would be based on "blaming women for everything". There is a certain irony in those comments. Many elements of feminism hold men responsible as a sex class for "everything". Women are always the victims and men always the oppressors.

This is what Intersectionalist identity politics looks like in practice and I think women can be as guilty of it as any other identity group

Even if any of that was true, what bearing does it have in LF's comments and the OP's post

littlripper · 27/09/2023 18:27

JingsMahBucket · 27/09/2023 13:15

@littlripper that's a stupid question. Vegetarians don't tend to align themselves with Hitler. A of GC women, however, do align themselves with people on the rightwing spectrum.

Which GC women? Where? can you show me some evidence of this statement?

There are vegetarians in far right groups world wide, so there are in fact some veggies aligned with Hitler.

Your point is nonsense. Both groups have a small overlap. Most GC feminists despise Fox, but you know that. You're just spouting a load of old crap to try and upset women in the feminist section of a website aren't you? 😂

I wonder if they're worried if one woman resists, we all will then they're screwed so best to suppress immediately

LittleMonks11 · 27/09/2023 18:31

He is just jealous of all the attention RB is getting and wanted his own contorted with bile face at the top of the news sites. Simple as that.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 18:33

I'm loving all the professional misogynists being hit where it hurts.Grin

Fox is an MRA, the misogyny drips from him.

Is he?

I've been accused of being an MRA multiple times this week myself! So I now the accusation with a pinch of salt.

In fact I've been called a transphobic, homophobic and racist over the past few years.
I'm all the ists and phobes apparently!!

Except I'm not, I'm a centre right (former Blairite) perfectly pleasant middle aged woman who doesn't really hate anyone.

All the name calling has become meaningless it's been so overused.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2023 18:42

Fox is a professional MRA. His wife divorced him and he's hated all women ever since.

I agree with some of this, but the reason Fox's comments are particularly misogynistic is that the segment on GB News was not about Ava Evans's attractiveness. Fox jumped straight to that because that's what misogynist men do.

That is completely different from a MN thread specifically about how and why so many women seem to find Boris Johnson attractive. The equivalent example would be a thread about Boris Johnson's Brexit deal, in which people were discussing whether or not they would go to bed with him. Such threads may exist, but in the latter example Boris's attractiveness is off-topic, in the former it isn't.

fedupandstuck · 27/09/2023 19:42

@TheLeadbetterLife, quite. That's exactly it.

And finding LFs comments misogynist is not bloody "moral outrage". It's a normal reaction to an unashamed attack on a women for nothing other than disagreeing with the odious little toad.

RebelliousCow · 27/09/2023 19:59

EtiennePalmiere · 27/09/2023 18:26

I think it is permissible to discuss wider contexts. We don't have to just cherry pick the bits which allow us to vent about Laurence Fox in predicatble ways. What would the point in that?

The difference between the journalist and Boris Johnson is that men are not routinely judged on their attractiveness or otherwise, unlike women. Just go on the DM and see how many articles there are about men with cellulite compared to women with cellulite. It's not going to impact him because most of the time he's used to being taken seriously, his voice being listened to, his listeners judging him on his words, not how pert his bottom is. Until women are judged as much by their achievements as by their looks, or who they might be sleeping with, I won't cry for Johnson about some MN threads...

LittleMonks11 · 27/09/2023 20:25

Wootton gone now as well. Yay.

Threads exist to share the news of Carrie Johnson having a baby which then fill up with pages of posts about how repulsive Boris is and how can she have sex with him as he's disgusting physically and in his views.

I've seen it about JRM too. These are just specific ones I recall. This general type of discussion is not unusual.

Discussions about how vile you find people leading to comments on how can anyone shag I never could are common place on here and in the real world. From men and women.

It's not common place on the TV or news programmes which is why this is a big deal not because no one ever says things like this.

Ah right.
It's ok for women to do it to men but not the other way round?

At least there's a bit more honesty there beyond the I Never Heard of Such a Thing outrage.

Yeh you did, it was just about a man you hated so you didn't care.
