As there is in every rape case.

If only a newspaper and investigative TV programme had been able to do this regarding Savile.

That's why they've done it. It's been a similar scenario of being untouchable

Yup that 'free-speech warrior' rapist has a reputation for using bully boy legal scare tactics to shut women and specifically journalists up. Its likely why the investigative journalists took so long to meticulously put the expose together. I would imagine if the rapist was less likely to hide behind his bullish legal threats they could've included a hell of a lot more women who had less robust evidence than the ones profiled in the final piece.

I think (not watched the programme but have read the article) that most/all the women had previously had consensual sexual relationships with Brand which would make the prospect of a criminal prosecution even slimmer.

The article is much better than the dispatches IMO. I'm nitpicking probably but the doc felt very Daily Mail to me and The Times more on the detail

I think the Saville “link” is quite unfair, all of those women did consent to sex and have some sort of relationship with RB and yes they were young but they weren’t a lot younger than RB was at the time. If it wasn’t for a handful of alleged incidents really RB has done nothing wrong. JS was an absolute deviant who didn’t do consent or have relationships at all.

I can't stand him but I really don't think those of us questioning this method are apologists- just that we feel that it's taking a rather iffy step to the 'innocent until proven guilty' that the law is based on. Imagine if your H was accused of something and was possibly innocent, possibly guilty - but had been named and shamed in all your local papers and Facebook groups before any trial. The chances of a fair trial would be nil

And you think he would hve been prosecuted if victims went to the police in the UK? If several women had reported being assaulted by your husband, would yoy really be waiting around for a trial?

if he is just a grimy sod who engaged in consensual acts, then that happens all the bloody time. Clearly he has a colourful past and in my opinion is not a pleasant person. And to be frank, his reputation then was already colourful so anyone who dated him knew exactly what he was like.

I loathe the way that people who go against the grain have this done to them.

I worked in large legal offices before #metoo was even a thing. It certainly hardens you up to the intentions of men. But the naivety of people is astonishing and you have to take amount of responsibility for yourself, whatever gender you are. This is assuming you have legal capacity to consent to the sexual act.

Where do you draw the line on that?

It’s amazing how dismissive people are of rape and sexual assault. You’d never hear “Och it was just a wee murder or two, he’s a nice lad really”. Yet being a sex addict apparently means rape is to be expected by him.

It’s amazing how many people loathe trial by media and rail against it so hard, yet never get so vocal about the fact trial by media is pretty much the only way women get listened to when it comes to rape and sexual assault.

Yes. And the women involved are also getting trial by media. Even the anonymous ones will not be able to hide from what’s being said about them. We could put a lot of energy into railing against the woeful prosecution / conviction rates and the treatment of victims, but that’s not as fun as whining about trial by media here.

I've worked with a lot of trauma-impacted, attachment-disordered, CSA survivor girls. And though I was well aware at 16, that's because I was raised in a home without abuse by a kind father and a feminist mother. Predators select carefully. If you knew at 16, a predator wouldn't pick you.

And knowing someone is a sleazy, stinky warthog is not the same as them being a sex offender. Accepting one is not the same as accepting the other.

This has been his shield. He's been building the team of loyal followers.

Yes mainstream media has its faults but he has been building his own castle to be king of and getting the DARVO soldiers reads if action for years.

Simple Reddit Googles suggest that people knew he'd been told to expect a big expose at least a year ago, or more.

Post savile and Weinstein he's slowly moved into that castle. Hiding in plain sight. Doing a Peterson for the loyal followers.
