Solidarity with the brave women of Iran

Just reading/watching about the tragic death of Mahsa Amini following her arrest for incorrectly wearing the hijab. These women are so incredibly brave.

"Anti-government protests are taking place across Iran following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on 16 September. Amini was detained in Tehran by a paramilitary unit that enforces Islamic dress codes after she reportedly didn’t wear the hijab correctly. She fell into a coma under unknown circumstances while in custody and later died, prompting outrage at religious police and security forces. However, despite its scale, analysts and diplomats are doubtful that the protests will lead to any significant change."

It's so sad. I also don't think anything will change. Particularly the gov will try to frame it as a kurdish minority thing. They block Internet too so people can't get organised with constant bs from state TV...

I have been truly humbled by the courage of the women burning their hijabs in protest against the regime.

It's such an incredible show of courage but I fear for their safety, the punishment will be brutal and they know it but are fighting for their rights anyway.

Poshjock · 24/09/2022 21:43

It's awful and shocking that this happens in the world. 36 women believed to have lost their lives in the protests. Such bravery, I can't imagine how dreadful this regime must be for them that they are willing to risk everything. I am just aware right now what an enormously prividged life I have led, despite the minor challenges I have faced as a woman.

Yes, truly awe inspiring.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/09/2022 22:35

This is the true definition of stunning and brave. So many courageous women.

PermanentTemporary · 24/09/2022 23:40

It's horrible, incredible. But their bravery is inspiring.

'This clothing is to protect women, and to prove it we're going to beat you to death for not wearing it'

Runningintolife · 24/09/2022 23:52

Such strength, solidarity

FemaleAndLearning · 24/09/2022 23:53

It would be wonderful if their protests made change but like others I fear for their safety.

SuperCamp · 25/09/2022 00:08

Which is why the rest of the world needs to take action on their behalf and alongside them.

But the great male dominated governments of the world seem little troubled by the vicious press ion of women.

Absolutely. The latest from The Observer: www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/24/protests-spread-in-iran-as-president-raisi-vows-to-crack-down

dudsville · 25/09/2022 10:06

It's such a frightening situation. I'm in awe of them for protesting given that men make the laws and men decided women need to be so controlled. They literally do not have a legal voice.

Empowermenomore · 25/09/2022 10:39

Solidarity. If the left was attune to the predicament of women worldwide, would they unite to stop it?
Tired we have the UN declaration of 1998 against violence against women pandemic and little has changed.

And, of course, last year Iran was elected onto the UN's Commission on the Status of Women, the principal team handling “the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women”. FFS!

MissPoldark · 25/09/2022 11:04

Such admiration for those brave women in Iran.
It’s mind blowing that something like this can still happen.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2022 11:11

In sisterhood. And with the women in Afghanistan.

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2022 11:36

Such brave women. Women should not have to live like this.

Ramblingnamechanger · 25/09/2022 15:23

Somewhere I saw an idea about posting samples of hair to the various Iranian Embassies around the world.

KatMcBundleFace · 25/09/2022 15:33

It's just horrific. Solitary

The left don't know what a woman is.

ChristinaXYZ · 25/09/2022 17:26

Incredibly brave women.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2022 17:28

It’s heartening to see so many young men out protesting with them, too. Attitudes are really changing.

EdithStourton · 25/09/2022 19:11

Flowers to all the protesters.

Such courage in the face of such brutality.
