Both absolute legends.
AIBU to wish I followed the same path?
At 45 I'm past it.

You can only help someone who wants to help themselves

Yes but they should have stopped and not carried on

@ShakeNCake Being loved.

Amy and Karen could not be more different. Confused

Without meaning to sound harsh - sorry if I do - the chances of getting into professional singing and becoming successful in the music industry (as a music star/pop star,) is very unlikely for most people, even those who are talented. And if you're 45, the chance is pretty close to zero. Sorry @Youshouldbestrongerthanme

I know several people who work in the industry, and whilst there are some singers/musicians who are successful past 35, they have usually started at a younger age. The chances of starting out in your mid 30s or older (in the 2020s) is unlikely. Youth is revered in the music industry.

@ShakeNCake Being loved.

Oh @Youshouldbestrongerthanme I'm so sorry to hear that ❤️ What's making you feel unloved?

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 20:57

@ShakeNCake I'm not. End of. Nothing I can do about it. But it's tough.

@Ved I don't want to be a professional singer. I admire them for jumping off the ride when they did.

What do you mean sorry...?

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 20:59

@Ved Amy passed at 27, Karen at 32 ❤️

They did not jump off the ride.
Neither intended to die.

I know. I mean what do you mean 'they jumped off the ride?'

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 21:01

@XenoBitch Not sure? Say I drank 5 bottles of wine and took a load of drugs...isn't that with intent? It's hard to call.

Neither women's cause of death was suicide, if that was what you were getting at.

@TheIceBear They choose not to face the inevitable years of decline. Well, I don't know if choose is the right word, but they didn't have to. When I remember them I think of them as young and wonderful ❤️

No, they didn't. Karen Carpenter died from damage sustained from anorexia nervosa after she'd sought treatment and Amy Winehouse accidentally died of alcohol intoxication after being clean of drugs and not drinking.

Neither intended to end their life.

Stop romanticising the consequences of mental illness.

You can love yourself. That's a good place to start instead of waiting for it from others

Eastie77Returns · 06/03/2026 21:07

OP, it seems you admire the fact they died young and (in your opinion) chose to die. Is that correct?

Amy had an inquest about her death. I think she had 2... am happy to be corrected on that.
By all means, do what she did and put your family through the anguish.
I am going through this right now (my DF), and it is awful.

Bunnycat101 · 06/03/2026 21:09

I’m sorry OP but you sound nuts. There is nothing admirable about both of those ladies going before their time. Pity yes but you speak like they wanted to die young. I’m less familiar with karen but Amy was in a tragic spiral before she died. I was at her last Glastonbury performance and she was a total mess. She didn’t go out in her prime. She went too soon due to her various issues. While not familiar with karen, anorexia is a horrid disease that poisons people from within. Seeing a relative nearly die of it will haunt me forever.

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 21:09

The way you're describing yourself is very sad OP. You're a unique being, completely special.

Is that what you are planning? You need to get some urgent help if so

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 21:10

@Goditsmemargaret Unique in that I have nothing. It's not great.
