Both absolute legends.
AIBU to wish I followed the same path?
At 45 I'm past it.

Fuck me pink. Put down the wine and go read a book or something OP. This is just runaway nonsense.

@mumofoneAloneandwell Indeed she was. Breaks my heart nobody helped her on that last appearance when she was clearly so sick.

You can only help someone who wants to help themselves

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 19:41

@BiscoffCheesecakes But at that point she couldn't. She knew nobody cared.

I think Amy Winehouse was overrated. Massively.

Davros · 06/03/2026 19:42

Odd to pick two women who were vulnerable and died young. Would Adele do?

@BiscoffCheesecakes But at that point she couldn't. She knew nobody cared.

Plenty of people cared, including her mum & dad

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 19:43

@mumofoneAloneandwell Thank you. I'm a no-one. Nothing interesting to say. But thank you x

@BiscoffCheesecakes Her dad didn't care. He cared about making £.

Oh stop it for God's sake

Yeah 45 isn’t old mate

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 19:44

@Davros I don't like Adele. Don't know why. She's not as musically gifted for a start.

@Dollymylove I see going at your prime as pretty cool 😎

You ever known someone who 'went in their prime'? A member of my family was killed in an accident one week after her 27th birthday. She was happy and full of life and hugely loved ,and she deserved to live a life and get old. All of her potential and her future happiness was stolen and none of her family members will ever be the same again. Dying young is not something to envy OP and it's not fucking cool, it's a tragedy for everyone it touches.

Whatever their relationship, you can't help someone who is on a course of self destruction

Sorry, op, I thought you were suicidal 🙈😄

Amy was great, may she rest

Amy's death was so sad. She was clean of drugs, but alcohol killed her. I believe thag was the case. Correct me if Im wrong x

She died from alcohol poisoning from a binge after being sober for a while.
Karen Carpenter died from complications arising from her anorexia.

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 20:03

@Dollymylove You're correct.

@likelysuspect 45 isn't young- it's well past my best before / usefulness date!

Speak for yourself, you talk so negatively. I feel like a better person with every passing year.

No point in having talent if you are unhappy. Both of them died from self inflicted methods due to their severe mental illness . And very unhappy that all their fame and money couldn't help or cure
If you are envious of dying on a high , don't bother . Until you mentioned them here nobody thinks of them very often . And definitely not in an admiring way . Many many people are just as talented but choose not to take that path . And time and time again talent , fame and success proves very difficult to handle . For example, Britney Spears . I rest my case .

HobnobsChoice · 06/03/2026 20:12

Karen Carpenter was a destroyed by anorexia, she weighed 5 and a half stone when she died. That's not her prime, that's a desperately ill woman who should have had many more years of life and music but died way to young. Amy Winehouse was destroyed by alcohol, pictures of her from the last months of her life hardly show her in her prime. Neither of them were in their prime, they should have been around for many more decades enjoying singing and their lives. They weren't living fast and dying young, they were suffering and dying before their time. Don't be so silly as to romanticise addiction and anorexia

Yes I remember seeing Karen on TV
I was shocked, it was clear that she was very ill.
Poor Karen, a devastating loss x

Yep, maybe prime in terms of age, but certainly not health.

Both were mentally ill and had addiction issues, and struggled with the pressures of fame.

The "prime" of your life should not be related to age. A lot of people feel at their prime a lot later in life.

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 20:16

@XenoBitch Menopause will see to that.

Human beings peak early in life. So dying in your prime is missing out on a lot of time to do useful things and enjoyable ones too. Those who are wise realise it. The Who sang about hoping to die before they got old. They're in their eighties now.

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 06/03/2026 20:22

@PullTheBricksDown But the reality is my useful/prime years are long gone. It's downhill from now. Fact.
