Awful anxiety don't want to get up

Tworedbicycles · 01/04/2025 10:27

I've been suffering with depression and anxiety for some time now. My Sertraline was increased a week and a half ago. The last few days the anxiety has really ramped up again. I just feel like I don't want to carry on, I haven't got the guts to do anything to myself but the feeling is so awful. I'm really losing hope that I'm ever going to feel better. Talking therapy hasn't helped at all, I find it hard to put into words how I really feel. Because I'm so anxious I can't eat and feel dizzy and peculiar. Sometimes I feel like just bashing my head against the wall. I just want everything to stop. I haven't got anyone to talk to, I don't have a partner or friends. I don't know why I'm posting really, just to get it out I suppose

Right, I'm washed and dressed in comfy clothes. Got an upset stomach so don't feel good but I've done it!

Well done you. Give yourself a hug.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 03/04/2025 12:00

As PP have said, your low mood could be a side-effect of the increased dose of Sertraline. Alternatively, it might just not be the medication for you anymore.

I find that other people (including medical professionals) who didn't suffer from anxiety never truly understand it... which isn't really reassuring! However, sometimes it's nice just to talk to someone who does, and who understands that your days come in peaks and troughs, and that anxiety is irrational and you're not just making it up/faking it/overreacting to a situation.

You might feel terrible now, but as the new dose kicks in, you might perk up tomorrow or next week. There will always be bad days, but there will be better days too, OP! I hope that you feel better soon 😊

Well done. Doing something is always better than not and baby steps are still steps in the right direction.

Big well done!
Don’t underestimate your strength! You didn’t want to do it. And may not have had a reason to, but you did it.

glad to hear you will order a journal - everyday when your feeling good or bad, just jot it down with the date, may noticed a pattern over time, certain times of the day, certain times of the month, what the trigger may be, and then you can see if there is anything to make that time a little less intense if you’re expecting it somewhat.

well done again, also, try to eat a little something 😊

Thank you, this is what I'm hoping - that once the Sertraline kicks in I will start to feel better. If I'm still feeling this bad next week I will let them know that it's probably not the right med for me. A few PP have said their anxiety really ramped up after an increased dose before settling so fingers crossed. I don't think anyone who hasn't suffered with it can understand how it feels x

Thanks, have ordered a nice hardback journal. I'm now sitting downstairs with a cup of tea and the windows open for some fresh air. I'll try a bit of something to eat once my stomach settles a bit. Someone's been cutting their grass so there's that lovely smell wafting in. I'm aiming to stay downstairs as long as I can before retreating to my room

Everyone finds different things help. I definitely find moving helps. It’s like I get this massive buildup of Adrenalin or cortisol or something and if I move vigorously it sort of uses some up. Just star jumps or flapping my arms and kicking out my legs helps. Going for a walk is good but I know when in the peak of anxiety it can seem too much to get up let alone go out. So just jump around. You’ll look like a loon but it can really help use up some of the stress hormones. We get into a fight or flight state so vigorous moment can replicate flight.

I think I must be feeling slightly better now I'm up because your post did make me smile 😁 thinking about flapping and jumping round the house like a demented bird lol. But you're right there is a massive amount of tension and energy that needs to be released and although I don't feel I can go out you might be onto something there! x

On the off-chance you haven't already seen it, this Ted X is useful (doesn't help with your phobia but might with the anxiety);

How you doing today @Tworedbicycles

Hi @Unsureurchin thanks for asking X the horrible feelings are just coming in waves at the moment rather than being constant so that's some relief. I've been trying really hard to keep on keeping on, getting early nights too and plenty of sleep. Trying to make sure I do a few things each day, but have completely lost my joie de vivre so I'm not enjoying anything. I'm relieved that the overwhelming feelings aren't so bad though so it's a step in the right direction. How are you doing? x

So sorry. My anxiety is absolutely raging at the moment and I feel tearful. Have had mental health issues most of my adult life and feel worn down. Is there anything at all that could make you feel better? Even for an hour or two..sending solidarity

Unsureurchin · 06/04/2025 12:43

@Tworedbicycles you sound like you're doing everything you can to help yourself and being kind to yourself too. The mojo will come back, just keep on keeping on and eventually the joy will return. Can you do one thing for me today, brush your teeth :) and if you've already done that ❤️❤️❤️and one thing for you. Whatever task you can manage

Thank you, I just got washed and dressed, cleaned my teeth too 👍late in the day but better late than never. Still not eating very well but having a cup of tea at the moment. Taken my vitamins. My head feels really woolly but hoping it will clear a bit soon and I will try and do something. It's like wading through mud trying to get through the day, all I really want to do is go back to bed but I'm up.

I'm so sorry you're going through this at the moment too. Have you been feeling like this for long? It really is horrendous but if you push through I will too 💐 I think we just have to take it minute by minute, hour by hour. I keep looking at the sunshine outside and wishing I felt good and up for a walk but I don't, but I may go and sit in the garden for a short while.
Please feel free to chat about what's going on with you if you'd like to, you won't be hijacking and it has really helped me to talk here. Sending hugs x

Getting up can be so hard, you're doing amazing. Do you have a garden? Can you drink your tea in the garden? Seeing daylight may help :)

I could sleep for England at the moment, it's all I want to do 😭
