have just had a funny episode where hearing went, went all hot and cold, heart racing/fluttery, felt like I was going to die .

I’ve had a few times before and told they think it’s panic attacks but not sure .

am alone and scared I’m going to die alone

I get heart palpitations quite often think it’s peri menopause, I’ve had a 24 hour heart monitor and it’s not been anything that they can see.
I hope it’s nothing serious for you too but totally understand how scary it is.

justwantmymum · 11/03/2023 15:13

It felt like I was dying . I’m scared another one will happen and I’ll die .

Well it's good that you are alert enough to post.

To calm yourself, try taking a deep breath, hold it a moment and then exhale slowly as though you are blowing through a straw. Do that a few times.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 11/03/2023 15:14

How long did the call handler say the ambulance will be? Have you left a door open? I know it’s hard but try and keep calm, you’ll have help soon.

Bimbleberries · 11/03/2023 15:14

how long did they say you might have to wait? Would it be possible to get someone else to drive you or get a taxi, if it would be hours for an ambulance, or do they think that it would be unwise for you to move?

Brunilde · 11/03/2023 15:15

Hope you're okay OP. Depending on where you are it might be a long wait. Could you get a taxi or anyone to take you. Might shorten the time you are on your own and you may feel a bit more reassured waiting at hospital instead of at home.

I’ve been getting flutters for about two weeks

Have you contacted gp or anyone in this 2 weeks? What's the wait on ambulance?

justwantmymum · 11/03/2023 15:15

Theh didn’t say . She just said there’s delays .

Flutters and palpitations can be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency.

Aurorabored · 11/03/2023 15:15

Can you get a taxi?

Call a taxi surely?

Winterisalmostover · 11/03/2023 15:22

I had this exact thing a few weeks ago. Ambulance was quick as DH told them he thought I was dying. Incredibly rude paramedic said I had health anxiety and didn't take it seriously. I felt a complete fool. Grudgingly took me to hospital whereupon it happened again witnessed by a doctor. Lots of tests ordered. Still waiting to have them. No idea of the cause.

WinterMusings · 11/03/2023 15:23

Could a friend/neighbour take you?

waiting around isn't going to help your anxiety. I'm in a GU postcode & would happily take you

Bridgeth29 · 11/03/2023 15:23

Call a taxi to take you to a&e.

Winterisalmostover · 11/03/2023 15:24

SunshineGeorgie · 11/03/2023 15:19

Call a taxi surely?

Taxi is £60 each way to my A&E. It's a horrible journey through countryside and the drivers aren't willing to take a collapsing person there. Fine if you have a hospital nearby.

justwantmymum · 11/03/2023 15:26

Am with someone now, am living in halls of residence and rang front desk, they’ve stuck me in their reception room to supervise whilst waiting on ambulance

OP posts:
Stepuptowardsinfinity · 11/03/2023 15:32

If you are in halls then you must be in the same town as the hospital. Is there a way to get there without an ambulance? I accept that you feel panicky but given you are posting here it doesn't seem like an ambulance matter. Can you get someone to drive you or hop in a taxi?

Bimbleberries · 11/03/2023 15:32

are you in a town/city then? Would a taxi not be faster? Much better to wait at the hospital if you think something will happen again.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/03/2023 15:33

Is this ambulance worthy?

CremeEggThief · 11/03/2023 15:34

Sounds like you're as safe as can be for the moment. Try to stay calm while you're waiting, nice deep breaths, don't think too far ahead etc.

An elderly neighbour of mine in her 70s had a fall outside in the summer and broke her knee and had to lie on the footpath for over 3 hours until after 8 pm, until an ambulance could come.

ChatterMonkey · 11/03/2023 15:35

I think youll be waiting a long time for an ambulance...

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/03/2023 15:38

Have a look at this video while you wait.

Ilikewinter · 11/03/2023 15:38

Ok im gunna call it ..... you've had these symptoms before, you've been to the doctors, you know these are panic attacks. You are lucid enough to think '' im going to die but will post on mumsnet' .... you clearly are not at deaths door. I very much doubt this is a situation where you need an ambulance.
