have just had a funny episode where hearing went, went all hot and cold, heart racing/fluttery, felt like I was going to die .

I’ve had a few times before and told they think it’s panic attacks but not sure .

am alone and scared I’m going to die alone

I’m sorry to hear that OP.

Remember that you can go to A&E for mental health emergency alone (which suicidal ideation is) or call the Samaritans at any point on 116 123.

Have you got parents or friends you can call for help?

Crumpetdisappointment · 11/03/2023 17:32

please seek help elsewhere op.

Justmeandthedog1 · 11/03/2023 17:33

OP. Hope you’ve got to hospital by now.
Whether it’s physical or panic attack, it needs a firm medical diagnosis. Ignore any arsy comments on here, you sound as if you’re doing what your GP told you to. If you had family with you who could drive you to A&E that would be another matter.
Consider if it’s possible for you to have tests you need privately if there’s a long NHS wait.

I think maybe lay off given what she has just posted. Op you are clearly struggling and should reach out for help, I suggest you mention having thoughts to harm yourself once you arrive at a+e so they can get you the help you need. Take care x

Strongboat · 11/03/2023 17:34

Ignore unsupportive messages. I'm so sorry you're feeling like this. Anxiety can be crippling and you are doing what the GP advised and phoning 999 as could be something else.
Please seek support from student welfare for your suicidal thoughts. You can get through this.

Yes and I sympathise but it doesn't warrant an ambulance fgs.

Paramedics will run checks and only take op if needing further assessment or treatment in hospital. Op, do mention your mh issues as they may be able to signpost you.

It does if they are suscidal people like you should not be allowed to post on the internet!

Maybe not... but don't carry on the pile on when someone has just said they have been having suicidal thoughts!

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 11/03/2023 17:38

The OP is clearly deeply troubled and needs help. She needs a doctor and if she's having a mental health crisis then A&E is the place to go. However, an ambulance absolutely is not required and takes valuable services from people who really need it. OP get off MN and call a cab. Borrow the money if you can or need to or if you are feeling a lot better (which your posts suggest) then maybe public transport is even an option.

KimMumsnet · 11/03/2023 17:40

Hello OP, we are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way.
We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources: www.mumsnet.com/webguide/mental-health Mental Health resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website: www.samaritans.org or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.
We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.
We are going to move this thread to the Mental Health section shortly.

Yes and I sympathise but it doesn't warrant an ambulance fgs.

But your responses are extremely harsh to somebody who is clearly panicking, scared and struggling with their mental health.

I agree with you that this probably doesn’t warrant an ambulance but when OP started this thread she was in the midst of (probably) a panic attack, which by definition make you think there is something seriously wrong.

If you truly sympathised you’d word your responses differently.

Hello, ex Emergency Ambulance crew here. OP.... any chest pain needs a ECG really to rule out anything sinister. Although it sounds likely to be anxiety, no one here can possibly know. Palpitations can also be caused by low iron stores for example. Personally I'd get a taxi, beg a lift rather than wait. As other posters have said, you will be triaged just the same however you arrive. I hope you have some support as you must feel scared.

Widoweddad · 11/03/2023 17:44

Get a taxi and as bad as this sounds and I mean it in the nicest possible way but say you need help you're thinking of ending your life.
Hopefully I'm wrong but with my wife's experience, the mental health team in a and e only work the standard 9 to 5 or 10 to 6.
I hope you get the help you need 🙏

Togoodtobeforgotten · 11/03/2023 17:44

Justwantmymum please contact your parent that is 4 hours away.

itsjustnotok · 11/03/2023 17:45

@ortonym calling an ambulance does NOT get you seen quicker. You are seen quicker based on your clinical need. I have seen people come in by ambulance and are outraged when they are sent to the main waiting room.

Thank you.

I was also requested by the GP to go to A&E to have an ECG when I had an episode so it could be diagnosed. It did indeed turn out to be an arrhythmia. The advice on here is actually contrary to what OP’s GP has asked her to do.

Justwantmymum please contact your parent that is 4 hours away.

I can’t, she’s terminally unwell and doesn’t remember that she’s my mum anymore, or I would.

ive for other family but I don’t want to let them down by saying im suicidal and struggling . Got enough to deal with without me phoning .

I don’t have any friends really . I spent so long with my mum that I haven’t been able to make any .

i can’t see how life is ever going to get better from this, I can’t even walk to the end of my street without panic attacks and palpitations and feeling I’m going to die . Not even diazepam works to control it . Diazepam just makes you feel fuzzy and forgetful .

Am at A&E now nurse said they’ll try and contact duty MH team once they’ve done an ECG/bloods and seen a doctor . A&E saying have done right thing .

I hope you are getting help @justwantmymum
Some of the posters are saying it doesn't warrant a&e, and tbh when I read your first post I thought that it's just sounded like a panic attack. But reading your subsequent posts, you have been advised to call an ambulance if they get worse, you are under the cardiac department who are unsure what is causing the palpitations etc so you have done the right thing.

I read this AMA this week about a woman who had a heart attack even though she didn't think she was. It's better to be safe than sorry

whyhere · 11/03/2023 17:54

I do hope that the many posters who have been utterly unkind and unsympathetic never experience the same response if ever they feel as though they are dying. What happened to 'if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing'? So, so lacking in common decency.

Strongboat · 11/03/2023 17:58

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. You're going through such a lot, it's no wonder you feel the way you do. I promise it won't always be like this. Good luck with the Mental health team and please seek the support of a counsellor if you can afford it. Do talk to your family members if you are close xxx
