Is anyone about, waiting on an ambulance

justwantmymum · 11/03/2023 15:10

have just had a funny episode where hearing went, went all hot and cold, heart racing/fluttery, felt like I was going to die .

I’ve had a few times before and told they think it’s panic attacks but not sure .

am alone and scared I’m going to die alone

i am glad you have someone with you op.

How do you know what's happening here? I could get palpations and it could be the start of a thyroid storm. You have absolutely no idea. Perhaps it could be an allergic reaction to something.

Because she is posting on mumsnet and walking around? Nobody doing that is at death’s door or critical enough to need an ambulance.

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/03/2023 16:52

You really don't need an ambulance. This is an anxiety panic attack.

About to go into cardiac arrest? She's walking around the building and posting on mumsnet!

I think what the previous poster meant was that an elderly person was more likely to go into cardiac arrest. That was how I read it.

anonymous98 · 11/03/2023 16:54

OP, are you far from your nearest A&E department? If it's accessible by taxi, that might be a good option if you're feeling better.

Mabelface · 11/03/2023 16:54

Fucking hell. Shit scared person having symptoms of what may or may not be a panic attack, no one knows yet as not seen a medic, thread turns into arguments and shit thrown at OP. Is this the best we can do? Really?

OP, I hope you get seen soon.

Summer2424 · 11/03/2023 16:54

Hi @justwantmymum hope you're ok x

LaffTaff · 11/03/2023 16:55

The OP has posted for reassurance. Statements such as 'someone will die because of you' are the mark of an absolute reptile.

Hope you get checked over quickly OP, and it proves to be nothing serious.

How do you know that for 100% certain?

Fwiw I don't think you do get seen quicker arriving by ambulance anyway.

Mirabai · 11/03/2023 16:56

Cancel the ambulance and get an Uber OP.

I’m not dismissing your symptoms as I have a cardiac arrhythmia (SVT) myself which can look similar to a panic attack without specialist knowledge. However even if it is an arrhythmia/thyroid/low BP episode you don’t actually need an ambulance right now, and you’ll actually get to A&E more quickly in a cab.

Yes, really harsh and not helpful.

It isn't OP's fault that emergency departments are under strain at the moment.

My partner was able to walk around whilst having a heart attack unbelievable!

No you don't get seen quicker.

The OP is conscious, breathing and mobile so will be low priority. A taxi would be quicker.

Ostryga · 11/03/2023 17:04

These sound similar to episodes I kept having. I was told repeatedly they were panic attacks (including on mn!) to find out they are a form of epilepsy I’m now treating.

Not saying you will have the same, just sometimes it worth pushing for a diagnosis if current meds aren’t working.

I would get a taxi to the hospital if you can, you’ll be seen quicker.

Dguu6u · 11/03/2023 17:05

Hope you get seen soon.

Make sure they investigate properly and don't write it off as 'women hysteria'.

Panic attacks can cause serious symptoms though, I used to go blind whenever I had one.

Lou670 · 11/03/2023 17:06

I really cannot believe that people think that arrival by ambulance gets you through faster. Everyone is triaged by the triage nurse and then patients seen in order of priority. Ambulances can be waiting in the hospital grounds for hours as unable to handover. They cannot just drop and run, they have to handover to A&E staff. No wonder the system is abused with attitudes like this.

And you are the reason that someone who is potentially very unwell won’t seek treatment!

Is this ambulance worthy?

My thoughts too. No wonder the ambulance waiting times are so long for genuine medical emergencies when people call them for a panic attack. 😡

She should seek treatment but as she is walking about and starting mumsnet threads, it’s doubtful she needs an ambulance. Nobody is saying she shouldn’t seek treatment

Oh please, posting on mumsnet, the OP clearly isn't at deaths door and would get to a hospital quicker in a taxi.

WilsonMilson · 11/03/2023 17:14

An ambulance is a massive overreaction.

I get palpitations on a daily. Maybe you are magnesium deficient or your electrolytes are out of whack, maybe you’re dehydrated or hungry. Maybe you’re having a panic attack. This is not an ambulance situation.

Soontobe60 · 11/03/2023 17:16

ortonym · 11/03/2023 16:15

If you get a taxi, that will take you to A & E and then you'll have hours to wait anyway. Get an ambulance and you'll be seen much quicker.

Not true. A paramedic may well decide that you dont need to actually go to hospital if the heart tracings show no sign of a heart attack.
Trust me OP, if youd had a heart attack you wouldn’t be posting on the internet!

Thekirit · 11/03/2023 17:16

OP if you’re in a halls of residence are you a student
With exams looming is anxiety and stress bringing on the panic attacks.
Worth mentioning your situation when you see a doctor

WhoWants2Know · 11/03/2023 15:15

Flutters and palpitations can be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency.

Or caffeine. This feeling is why I moved to decaf

loobylou10 · 11/03/2023 17:21

I think you should ring a taxi, get to a and e and get in the queue to be seen OP. Don't wait for an ambulance.
