Hi all
Well I've picked up my prescription for citalopram I'm hoping to start taking it tomorrow morning but I'm already really anxious about it 😢
Anyone want to hold my hand

Op just commenting because I had a similar experience with sertraline in October ...never been so I'll on my life and even got a covid test as I assumed I had caught it to be so ill. Came off it after two days and felt better almost immediately. Then tried fluoxidine and very similar effects so was dreading citalopram, however started last week straight on 10mg. Felt slightly nauseous the first two days but could still eat unlike with the previous two where I was instantly vomiting up anything I ate or drank. After that no real side effects at all, maybe slightly disrupted sleep but nothing else at all and feel a lot better mentally already....so hope it goes the same for you!

Just take it easy and try to hang on in there. Hopefully you won't get anything more than a bit of nausea - I certainly never did. It seems to be one of the kinder of the SSRIs for a lot of us.

Monkeytennis97 · 28/01/2021 17:50

Very sweaty palms and achy legs today (like I need to stretch them all the time) and some joint pain. Remember those feelings from before ... next comes the nausea and teeth grinding. Oh well must stick it out for the few weeks until it gets better!

Llh1979 · 28/01/2021 18:01

@thevassal sertraline was absolutely awful it ruined my christmas as I just couldnt shake the panic attacks the nausea and diarrhoea lasted for 4 weeks ended up having to have bloods done and samples sent off it was hourendous I will never ever take it again that's why I was so scared and only started on 5mg

Citalopram does seem to be the gentlest from what I've been hearing I've a couple of friends on it who tried sertraline 1st yet it seems the most common AD of them all

@Monkeytennis97 hope it all passes soon for you

Citalopram was amazing for me! I was on it for 4 years, but I got gradually better in that 4 years, was then weaned from it, and havent had to take it again. On my 6th year without it! I think it's amazing....once you get past the first few weeks! I got nausea and light headedness until I got used to it

nopenotplaying · 28/01/2021 18:10

I take 40mg a day and don't see the amazing affects you all describe. Now I'm worrying!

Monkeytennis97 · 28/01/2021 18:10

@Llh1979 thanks x

Llh1979 · 28/01/2021 18:16

@nopenotplaying do you take it for anxiety or depression or both? I have no advice sorry but please dont worry everyone is different

@nopenotplaying
According to Google 40mg is the maximum dose of citalopram. How long have you been on that? If its a while I would suggest you get in touch with your doctor.
I'm on 40mg, I dont feel 100% normal, but I do feel better than I did on 20mg.
Saying that though, I dont actually know what my normal is. I do know that anxiety has been part of my life since childhood and depression has been in my life since my teens.

nopenotplaying · 28/01/2021 20:25

@Gingaaarghpussy over a year and without review due to covid. I was prescribed it for anxiety/post natal. It works to an extent..I forgot to reorder once and went nearly a week without it was horrendous. But I don't feel fantastic like others describe on here, at a comparatively high dose. I know it's the highest so there's no option to increase. I've had sertraline before and after a while felt that wasn't working either.

nopenotplaying · 28/01/2021 20:27

Hope you feel well soon op xxx

Gingaaarghpussy · 28/01/2021 22:19

@nopenotplaying
There are other antidepressants to try. I still think you need to ring your doc. Mine does consults over the phone.
There are snri's as well.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 07:53

Wow wow wow
Anxiety is at an all time high I thought I was doing well over the last 4 days then last night bam its hit me like a sledgehammer I can feel the panic constantly rising in me and my jaw feels constantly clenched
I know they say it can get worse before it gets better but did anyone else have really heightened anxiety when 1st starting I dont know if I can continue like this I feel as bad now as when I started the sertraline just minus the heart palpitations because of the propranolol
My head is going 100 miles an hour and I cant seem to stop it
I've had 5 hours sleep after doing so well fornthe last 3 nights aswell
Have I made a mistake in trying citalopram?

Ll can you manage to get out for a run, brisk steep walk, fast bike ride or something physically exhausting? Or do an energetic home workout? I have found really pushing myself physically 'uses up' the adrenaline when ive been like that.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 08:35

@candycane222 we have home schooling for the nxt 7 hours 😢 honestly i feel like just giving up i feel so sick

Not sure I can advise anything except maybe find some breath calming exercises on eg youtube and try them - with the kids?

Heather104 · 29/01/2021 12:38

@Llh1979 I had the exact same. It is getting better. It was horrible. I said the exact same, I’m worse now than before. It’s the medicine that’s for sure. Today is now 3 weeks for me it is getting a bit easier.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 12:45

@Heather104 how are you feeling
I was going to wait until Sunday to take the 10mg but I've done it today I thought I may aswell feel rubbish all at once I had a bad evening anxiety wise (covid related) last night so think its playing a part aswell I just dont know which way is up today
@candycane222 I'm going to go for a walk while the kids are having lunch

Heather104 · 29/01/2021 14:04

@Llh1979 not feeling to bad today. I guess that’s one way to long at it. If you already feel bad mind as well go for it.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 16:09

I'm really hoping these feelings soon pass I havent felt this bad for a few weeks especially not with the panic attacks

OP posts:
Heather104 · 29/01/2021 17:37

@Llh1979 not gonna lie they were horrible for the first week or so. They have gotten better. Still can feel like they’re gonna come but just get like warm and then it kinda passes.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 17:40

@Heather104 that's reassuring to hear as I cant cope like this I havent even had a cup of tea today I feel that sick

OP posts:
Heather104 · 29/01/2021 21:20

@Llh1979 oh I know I just lived on Gatorade and water . I’m just beginning to eat more. Lost a lot of weight.

Llh1979 · 29/01/2021 21:28

@Heather104 I lost so much weight in the very beginning after my reaction to the sertraline I ended up dehydrated aswell that's why I was really hoping for easy side effects on the citalopram
