Oh no, don't get me wrong, a Star Bar is shit chocolate. It's just lovely shit chocolate. I think I must be premenstrual.

Millie2013 · 11/02/2015 20:54

I like peanut butter m&ms. I instructed my poor ex-boss to use up his entire baggage allowance, bringing them back from the U.S., last year

DavidTennantsBeard · 11/02/2015 20:54

I bet DS would love almond butter I'll try and get him some. It's so awful to know he is this bad and not be able to do anything but what can you do? He won't talk to us and I can understand why not, having been a suicidal teen too, I feel there was nothing much anyone else could do for me then. (Maybe almond butter would help though) Hoping to speak to the pdoc tomorrow and get his take.

UpOnDown · 11/02/2015 20:55

Sounds yummy.

Ennn · 11/02/2015 20:55

Diabetic nurse wouldn't give me more met to allow me to eat more carbs. Instead I'm to eat more catbs then I can have more met when my hba1c gets shittier Hmm

On the plus.side she pointednout tonne that my maoi means I already have a restricted diet meaning a)she noticed I take it and b) she knows the implications, which is more then I can say for a.lot of doctors and pharmacists.

I love peanut butter m&ms. The pretzel ones are great too.

PollyPooic · 11/02/2015 20:56

glad to hear your son asked the staff for more help David, I do feel for you, hope he can start coming home on leave soon

Ennn · 11/02/2015 20:56

Almond butter is usually runny. You can eat it with a spoon.

I haven't tried either peanut butter or pretzel.

DavidTennantsBeard · 11/02/2015 21:05

Thanks Polly, he's been coming home on weekends for leave since new year but I'm worried we can't keep him safe overnight after yesterdays shenanigans :(

Looks like you can get almond butter in tesco. That would be great for DS as he loves peanut butter and is desperately skinny, he doesn't have an ED but is a fussy eater at the best of times.

UpOnDown · 11/02/2015 21:09

I hope things improve for DS, David

It's not easy being a fussy eater in an adolescent unit, David :( (but the one I have experience of, which is a private chain of hospitals had v v nice food)
Can you be honest with the staff about your fears of he comes out in leave?

Millie2013 · 11/02/2015 21:15
  • on leave...
HellinaHandbasket · 11/02/2015 21:15

I spent 6 months in New York when I was training. I never once cooked in my apartment and I developed a dreadful passion for American junk food. Luckily I was going and energetic and didn't gain any weight. If I did the same thing now I'd be the size of a house.

HellinaHandbasket · 11/02/2015 21:16

Sorry to hear things are bad David. I second Millie's advice that you be as honest with the staff as possible about your fears.

PollyPooic · 11/02/2015 21:30

it is a hugely positive thing that he didn't complete whatever it was AND he told someone, think this is a really important thing to acknowledge

not that your anxieties about home leave are not understandable, I do know the feeling, went through some awful times with #2, don't think I will ever forget those days

DavidTennantsBeard · 11/02/2015 21:42

Thanks everyone. We will talk to pdoc tomorrow about whether home leave is feasible, we have had this type of chat before. I do realise that it's positive that he stopped and sought help but this is the first event we've had like this since before Xmas and so it is a step in the wrong direction.
Good to know others have been thro this and come out the other side though.
I've upped my own meds. Sorry to say I actually feel so much better for a couple glasses (bottle) of wine, I know I shouldn't!

I don't think anyone is going to begrudge you a couple of glasses of wine David.

Millie2013 · 11/02/2015 21:56

More hugs, David
DD just woke up and started gagging, then went back to sleep. Please, pleaaaase no more bugs. I can just about cope as it is, but constant clearing up puke is too much, right now. She's in bed with me, so I'll just put some towels down, just in case..
