I asked if she could run on less, and she said "well yes, but why would I want to, I do well when I eat this much". I pushed, and asked how much she could cut it down by, if she had to, and she said probably about 200 calories a day, but her recovery would be worse then, and so it would be ok short term, but would effect her long term, and it would have to be sugary stuff lost, as she needs the carbs.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 08/01/2015 22:08

She's about 5'6 I would say.

Mitchy1nge · 08/01/2015 22:15

thank you for finding out these things, it's really kind of you. I feel better about heading for 2,500 at least (then 2,750 then see what happens, I need to get rid of my scales and not ever be told my weight I think even if that means I am being a baby about it, it's just definitely very unhelpful at the moment)

I don't know why it's different coming from some runner I don't even know, as opposed to people around me who care about me Confused but she's only a couple of inches taller than me (am 160cm)

Is there anything else it would help to know? She is super lovely and I don't mind asking.

Mitchy1nge · 08/01/2015 22:20

well I guess weekly training volume? (there is already a little voice in my head saying that she will be running many many many more miles per week than me and I will Get Fat if I even think I can eat half as much etc etc) especially peak volume before the marathon? and any cross training? am imagining she cycles about 200 miles a week or something!

(I did the last half on around 30-35 miles a week I think)

Ok. Will ask. All got a bit emotional as thinking about the friend who died, but will ask in a min. She didn't know him so is just being a listener.

Mitchy1nge · 08/01/2015 22:28

Flowers that is easily more important to talk about

(there is no urgency, I already really really appreciate you asking her all this stuff so far! is one of those helpful clicking into place type things, like chats I've had with the PT somehow going much further into my brain than anything any of the professionals ever has to say. whatever anyone else says or doesn't say though I just have to get on with it anyway)

Cycle or run to work 4 days a week. 6 mile round trip. One body pump class or one spinning class per week (hour long). When not training, that's it.

When training- two runs per week of five-eight miles, two runs of ten-fifteen miles. These are incorporated into running too/from work. One long run building up to marathon level.

So when training she runs five days a week. Said if she does more her body can't cope with it and she struggles at work. She used to follow a training plan from bupa, said it's probably on the website.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 08/01/2015 22:32

I'm not sure if that makes sense. I typed half then stopped then typed the rest.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 08/01/2015 22:36

Just to add, I asked her if she knew what her bmi was nonsiness and she said "I run too much to worry about my bmi. Muscle weighs more than fat so would mess it all up."

Mitchy1nge · 08/01/2015 22:48

that's brilliant, thank you Flowers

really kind of you (both of you) it's a scary experiment to embark on (and I know I am older and shorter so need less food anyway) but am going to work on the idea that the more I eat (of whatever, she's so much like other ultra runners I know with pizza and beer and chocolate!) the better and more I will be able to train

I wonder if it is true

Worth noting though she does nothing else except what I've written - no horses or anything. She just sits in a lab growing cells all day.

Mentalpsychiatrist · 09/01/2015 05:50

Sorry to hear about your friend Caulk, very tragic. Have eaten my head off and my sleep is still fucked which is a bit of a worry mental health wise. The skiing is fabulous though.
Love to all of you x.

Mitchy1nge · 09/01/2015 09:01

wondered how you were mp, Envy of amazing skiing but not of sleep deprivation - hope that improves. When are you back?

time to lead my slow jogger group on a slow jog, first day back after Christmas break, have emporridged my self

then cpn and I think care coordinator/ot, then meeting a coach to devise training plan, then riding after school - might get someone to do my mucking out - and take dog for his run

on plus side my appointment has been cancelled until I can be bothered to present self for tests so have some extra spare time

on not plus side I thought I might actually want to see and talk to them for once, instead of Going Through It Alone

OP posts:
Mitchy1nge · 09/01/2015 11:21

car says zero miles of fuel available so I will play a game of petrol roulette then go and track down this running coach for some marathon chat

what are you all DOING? hate going through everything alone :( am feeling very borderliney and abandoned by the team I spend so much time avoiding Grin

I am lying in bed trying to decide if it's utter madness to go to the gym with bronchitis (as I've decided to call my mild productive viral cough with accompanying fatigue), wondering whether pseudoephedrine is really contraindicated on MAOIs or is one of those "bung it on the 'no' list, why not" contraindications, and wondering why my scales are giving me weight readings this morning that vary by half a stone depending on which bit of the floor they're on and how many times I stand on them.

Enpoid · 09/01/2015 11:36

Oh, and I'm waiting (probably in vain) for Yodel to deliver my whey protein powder that they claim is out for delivery.

Mitchy1nge · 09/01/2015 11:37

poor enpo, it sounds yucky, like something best slept through as much as possible or at least rest in the warm and not in some germ riddled freezing cold a/c gym

OP posts:
CaulkheadUpNorth · 09/01/2015 11:40

I'm sitting in the waiting room waiting for blood test and meeting with Freud. It smells a lot here and I have developed paranoia that it's me who smells.

How far can you get on 0miles of petrol? My car can usually go about 50 miles when it says it has hardly any petrol.

Enpoid · 09/01/2015 11:42

My gym doesn't have a/c, though at this time of year it's bloody freezing enough as it is Grin

I think it's my civic responsibility to stay at home and avoid spreading my lurgy.

Why were your appointments cancelled?

Mitchy1nge · 09/01/2015 11:44

finally garmin uploads today's run

it is well annoying sometimes Angry

but on plus side have achieved breakfast (200 cals), school (I don't have to achieve that, just sort of supervise her into taxi) getting about 65% on questions from some stupid psych training exam someone is writing (helped by some questions being same as yesterday but I am dementing a bit) easy 4 mile run, snack (brilliant black forest cake with raspberry compote from graze box, 97 cals) and I FOUND MY PURSE oh and have responded to some of the backlog of text messages about running and riding with various people

Enpoid · 09/01/2015 11:46

I viscerally remember the swell of joy followed by crash of horror I had when, driving through northern France on 0 miles left, I finally found an all-night petrol station, the only one for at least 20 miles, pulled up, read the instructions on the machine, and realised you needed a special French fuel card. Which I didn't have.

I think fumes and the power of hope got me to a distant hypermarche with a petrol station.

Mitchy1nge · 09/01/2015 11:50

I didn't even ask why, I just sort of luxuriated in the 'ohmy god you are leaving me to DIE of my problems' type role

am a very bad waste of their funds because rarely keep my appointments and we should part company really but I suppose they can't just discharge me

for first time ever find self seriously contemplating getting own help from somewhere but dunno, is hard, probably won't

OP posts:
Enpoid · 09/01/2015 11:51

Oh, you found your purse! That's great.

I had to coast my little car into carrefour as the fuel ran properly out on the petrol station entrance, about forty miles after it said it was completely empty. Luckily it wasn't a diesel.

Exam sounds fun Grin

I did one of those ridiculous self tests on psych central yesterday for adult ADHD and almost maxed the thing out Hmm It's pretty much the only thing I've never had suggested by psychiatrists.
