Should I post this on facebook?

I have a confession to make.
I left facebook to give myself time to heal, I have finally admitted that I am ill, I have severe depression and suffer from panic attacks. I'm currently taking medication and have the support of a psychologist and the community mental health team. Very few people know about it because I'm afraid of people thinking I'm crazy or exaggerating.
For the first time in my life with help im beginning to see that there may be light. There may be life after this illness.
Being ashamed and hiding behind the mask won't help me to heal, being honest and accepting that this is the way I am now and i need help to get past it may help.

spidey IMHO I would not post that on FB. Not even if you take away the self-stigmatising sentence "I have a confession to make."

I am active in the service user involvement movement, happily share my story within this context, and have friends in the same movement, who I'm also friends with on FB. But we don't discuss our mental health on FB. I expect we might refer to a broken leg, though!

TheSilveryPussycat · 10/10/2014 21:47

nor do I share it to my non su involvement friends! Not over FB, I do face to face though.

Life is going my way atm, sorry so many are finding it hard, oh and congrats to collar

Ivytheterrible · 10/10/2014 21:57

Hi can I join you? I've been stalking lurking for a long time.

I feel I know so much about you all...
Me - 14 weeks as IP this year with 3 admissions. Recently diagnosed bipolar but not sure I'm convinced. On venlafaxine and aripiprazole but no mood stabiliser - long story.

Last few days I've had thoughts about stabbing my DH and DDs. It's not great but in Psych limbo as discharged from my perinatal team but not yet had referral through to community team. Do you think it's ok if I just up the aripiprazole myself? Am on 15mg but could double to 30mg as have enough and I was on this higher dose a few months ago.

TheSilveryPussycat · 10/10/2014 22:08

No messing with the meds without psych advice is what I've always done. Been discharged back to GP a few times, but my most recent experience is since discharge from being IP, and having a very good CPN who referred me back for med tweaks twice.

But you've yet to have that support. In your position, I think I'd see the GP as an emergency. He can refer to crisis team if things are v bad, or get them to prioritise your referral otherwise. And may be able to advise on the meds.

Shiney new thread Grin

Enjoy your Indians pulled and victrix

Family time sounds great snowy

spidey I did make a post about it being world mental health awareness day but usually I keep quiet on FB about things, but it is your call

Hi ivy I am IP at the moment and have been on aripriprazole, I wouldn't alter your dose until you have discussed it with your psych, can you push for a quicker appointment?

Glad things are going well for you silvery

I am very very low and falling apart.

MySpideySenseTickles · 10/10/2014 22:17

Good point, silvery, I'll not mention it then. I'm just used to sharing every tiny aspect of my life on facebook the edited version that I show the world anyway I'm not going to post it, im not going to mention my weightloss on there either, I think one reason I'm actually succeeding this time is that I've not told anyone so there's not constant pressure. (My auntie is a personal trainer and during the summer she walked 150 miles just for the hell of it, she means well but I'm only just back in contact with parts of my family so they don't really know me)

Fluffy sorry you feel so crappy I have been following your story and rooting for you.

Spidey I would never post anything like that on fb as there are so many people that are just acquaintances. I only want my close friends to know what I've been going through.

I'll see my perinatal CPN next week for discharge so will see what she says before doing anything myself. Feeling very weepy about saying bye to her after a year so it's going to be really difficult Sad

Victrix · 11/10/2014 14:46

Because there was no MN today I got out in the garden Grin

I feel all fulfilled Thanks

Mentalpsychiatrist · 11/10/2014 14:49

I've been horse riding and now I have a sore behind Smile

Best wishes to all.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/10/2014 15:05

ivy I didn't realise you still had a perinatal CPN - if things are bad, and the meeting is late in the week, you could ring her and ask if you can do the tweak in the meantime.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/10/2014 15:05

Oh and have been in the garden, scraping moss off the patio joins.

SnowyMouse · 11/10/2014 15:30

Welcome ivy Smile

Sorry, I'm not up to posting today, but thinking of all of you.

Dear fluffy
Flowers
Your posts sound so desperate. You have been here before, though, and you know that you can get better. I really hope you will see that as a possibility.

As you said to another poster this week:
stay stay stay
