Hope this is Post No. 1001 equivalent, having just used up the thousandth space and feel I shouldn't ask Madmouse to organise the next one again.

Have just looked into summerhouse to check fire is burning gently, tray of [brew} organised by upward to turn into one's favourite hot drink of the moment is standing ready for visitors, along with a few pounds of chocolates from huge box sent by DSis. (Before DB eats any more today)

It's usually tianc, upward and hob who remember to be hospitable and also remember to send good wishes to previous visitors, including said madmouse and mouselet, kizzie and family, NanaNina, Butterpie and another name which eludes me just now, but am hoping you'll find your way to this new part of the Cybergarden
and continue visiting in the New Year, along with hob's time-travelling cat Her Felinity and her welcome associate ndt (next-door's-tom), who visit us quite often, bringing gifts of Thanks when they remember, instead of the usual dead rodents which they know are unwelcome in the cybergarden.

Have just had lovely large lunch, plus Skype visit from rest of relatives, so will have a little potter round RL garden, hoping all is well and welcoming now in cybergarden's summerhouse.

cityhobgoblin · 04/03/2012 18:31

Agree with you about phones- I find even basic technology staggering and thrilling

Hope your pottering leaves you almost ready for spring , shodatin I too prefer emails to Skype (though I like the emoticons ) Doing well with spoons , thank you < grateful> and hope we all find a couple of spares Off for an hour or two-Brews and soup

cityhobgoblin · 04/03/2012 18:31

i forgot the Grins at the start , upward

Nilgiri · 04/03/2012 21:37

Grin at phone posts!

Amazed at all these daffs!

Bit under the weather here and not v chatty, but have Brew all while I dormouse...

cityhobgoblin · 04/03/2012 22:18

Thanks Nilgiri < grateful slurping >

So sorry you're not feeling great , and hope it soon passes

< heaps thick logs onto fire , as clear moonlit night and strong wind are a hair-raising combination >

shodatin · 04/03/2012 23:20

Sorry about the dormousing, such a nuisance. Hope Nilgiri's feeling better soon, and thanks for all the Brew. Big thanks to hob too, for remembering to add logs to fire on this cold and windy night.

Am always amazed at how much you manage with the phone upward, not just the technology which is endlessly changing but managing to type so well in such a small space plus having the concentration to join in while on hospital ward/s. The rest of us are at home using computers, and fairly stable health-wise, but you deserve another medal!
Hope you can continue to keep in touch with us this coming week, however briefly, and that the week starts well after having a really good sleep tonight.

Will say goodnight now in case I dormouse again.

Good morning everyone

shodatin · 05/03/2012 09:16

Oh coffee oh wonderful, just what I needed, thanks *upward, and good morning to you too. Hope you managed to have a good sleep, and are feeling healthy today?

OP posts:
cityhobgoblin · 05/03/2012 10:11

Good morning all , and thank you for the Brew, upward- hope the morning is going OK if you're at the hospital . I agree , shodatin , must be many hurdles to getting onto the net in those circumstances

Hope it wasn't too windy last night where you are ,shodatin
Hope Nilgiri has a chance to look out onto the outdoors today , and that shodatin isn't still suffering extra discomfort

Sorry am not being very imaginative , just busy with DIY etc
HF very helpful , & seems quite euphoric in her patch of sun

shodatin · 05/03/2012 12:35

Am feeling amazingly better thanks hob, having taken first pain-killer when I woke around sixish and rest after breakfast break, which seems to suit me. Could be because despite quite a strong wind, sun is out and we were forecast bad weather, even possibility of snow, as I remember. Locals seem to have heeded forecast and stayed away from town, so no problems parking, plus have arranged for help to arrive half-hour later - just a really good day so far, and hope rest of cybergardeners feel same - HF obviously is having similar day in her warm places.

OP posts:
cityhobgoblin · 05/03/2012 16:24

So pleased to hear you're feeling better , shodatin , and your day fell nicely into place

Before I heard about snow in the forecast a few days ago , I was declaring loudly that I could "feel" snow on the way ... maybe so , but it was obviously just a passing cloudful Grin

Hope upward and Nilgiri are having reasonable days - Brews all round

Found sprouting tulip bulbs I'd forgotten to plant & am hoping they'll survive the untangling of roots etc

shodatin · 05/03/2012 17:20

Yes hob, know what you mean about the snow., You must have been feeling very confident at the time. I think there is a certain "light" pre-snow, but I'm not always right so rarely mention it these days.
Many thanks for the Brew - it's more than my turn, and apologies about being so forgetful. Hope HF is still enjoying sunshine - do you think she has any premonitions about weather?

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 05/03/2012 17:50

Day hosp was ok, I'm not going again this week (though I have to go up to ward round tomorrow).

Has anyone ever done/heard about experiences of OU modules? I'm a little daunted by the thought of reapplying for DSAs.

I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your good day continues, shodatin.

If you've started untangling today I hope it wasn't too tangled, hob

nilgiri, I hope your day's going well.

shodatin · 05/03/2012 21:24

Glad you've arranged time away from day hospital upward, knowing you'll be busy with next admission.

Brilliant idea to try OU, - have no personal experience but a friend waited until her six children left home before getting a degree this way, and I met her on a completely different foundation course, as she'd acquired so much confidence after gaining degree, despite being so much older than others on the course. You must be further along than my friend, and well experienced in studying, so I'm sure you'd be successful.

OP posts:
cityhobgoblin · 05/03/2012 21:39

Glad it went OK at the hospital, upward , & you get a bit more time to yourself this week , but of course you have a lot to do .
.
How exciting you're planning your next steps already . I want to do OU ( can't yet work out how to finanace it ) , though of course yours is at very advanced level .I notice loads of MNers are taking all types of their courese - the Education forum may have your answers

How interesting that you were on one the courses too , shodatin - may I ask what area < nosey > Am impressed at your friends many achievements ! as well as your hunger for knowledge , as always

HF is rarely surprised by weather conditions ,shodatin ,though often displeased ...next door's tom hates the wet & sometimes hides in our shed , refusing to come out till thoroughly commiserated with, especially in snow

< adds applewood log , hoping Nilgiri can toast her feet with us >

Upwardandonward · 05/03/2012 21:51

Thanks shodatin and hob. This is new for me, at undergraduate level because I've been out sO long. Thanks for the forum tiP, I will once I'm settled, I'm only coming to this thread at present.

I hope nilgiri can join us too.

Good night all.

Nilgiri · 05/03/2012 23:31

Fantastic that you're planning your next course of study, Upward!

Much of my family did OU degrees - often topping up Further Education qualifications. Tutor Marked Assignments are an abiding memory of my childhood, and as teenagers we used to explain algebra to my mother. I remember being very impressed at the calibre of the learning materials: much more accessible than our school text books!

My family overseas struggled a bit more with OU, as they missed out on the summer schools and local study groups which met regularly. Your town is probably heaving with tutor groups, Upward, and it could really be quite social if you chose.

And honestly, you haven't been out of academia long compared to many OU-ers! Some of them will have left full-time study before either of us were born!

shodatin, I'm glad to hear the pain-killers are doing their trick. So sorry that's a thing you've had to become expert in.Sad

I know what you and hob mean about snow. For me, it's that wet-coal smell in the air that heralds it. And then waking and seeing the unnatural brightness on the ceiling, and ripping open the curtains to be sure!

hob, good luck with your tulips - sure HF was very helpful with the planting...

Good day here organising, which was satisfying! Various items now being Freecycled, and a brand new list waiting for handyman.

Upward, hope ward round-up goes well tomorrow - and then your other looming hospital appointment. I'll say good luck for that now, as I'm not sure when you're going in.

Hope we all sleep well.

shodatin · 06/03/2012 00:20

Goodnight to upward, hope it is a good one, and that I'm not too late.
Hob, I was only doing a Foundation Course , one of the many aspects of Architecture I found over the years, and which was unfortunately not continued by the university.
Another elderly moment here, read that ndt would hide from bad weather in your bed (must have that beagle on my mind, as you definitely typed "shed").

Will try to remember to sniff for wet coal next time snow's due Nilgiri, and you're definitely right about the extra brightness, it's the reason I got polarised sun-glasses when I started driving as migraine began.
Did some Freecycling and made a new list - that was certainly a satisfying day for Nilgiri. Beagle probably heard fridge door opening and dashed home, as never
knew one who avoided smelly feet (mine liked to collect socks and undies, v. embarrassing). Goodnight all.

Have the fairies been MNing overnight I wonder, or did I forget to switch off machine? Elderly moments more frequent I think.
Hope we all had a good night and can enjoy at least parts of today.
