snowmash's cybergarden

We filled up your thread, snowmash! So here's another one.

Neither weather nor circumstance seems to be cooperating at the moment, so I thought we could do with a virtual garden to sit out in.

shodatin has started work already:
"we don't lose anything to the frost here, and nobody thieves our daffs and precious bay trees. Most days will be sunny I think, but sometimes we have rain at night, particularly when we've done some planting..."

And I think it needs a summer house with a chiminea or the like to sit round after dark and toast our tootsies.

Oh my, you've been having very busy days. Shock

snowmash I'm so sorry you've had such a hideous day. Lack of self-determination is vile, isn't it? Sad I could rant for Britain on this, but tonight's probably not the time. But I feel for you big time.

hob that's so cool that you occupied the bank! Hats off to you!

Definitely bed time - DP went up a while ago and I just wanted to catch up with you folk. Hoping you're all getting some good rest ready for the new day and all it may bring.

Good morning all.

Thank you forthe sympathy & empathy - definitely trying to make this a clean slate day.

Hope everyone has good ones - thinking of the virtual garden at the moment...

shodatin · 13/03/2011 11:06

Morning all, particularly snowmash on "The first day of the rest of our lives" and hope it's a good one.
Thanks for good wishes snowmash, hope the sun is shining in the virtual garden and bulbs are out, with birds singing as they fly about with bits for their nests, under a blue sky - (not here unfortunately, but am sure its better in N.Yorks than N.Japan).
Lets have a Brew while we wait for TIANC to smell the coffee (always first) and join us in the garden.

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 11:39

Morning, all. Clean slate day, it is, snowmash, and I hope you find lots of wild birds in the garden , picking over the slightly damp earth. This still being sowing season, are there any seeds you'd like to propagate on the windowsills of the summerhouse? ( or am I mixed up & can we have an orangery too?) Maybe snowmash would like to put up a little greenhouse as well for seedlings . What a nice long garden this is!

Apologies again for talking such nonsense , I got carried away when snowmash asked about our weekend plans- thanks shodatin & TIANC. Hope all have a relaxing day. Must get a move on and sow a few seeds myself this week. Hope DC are feeling OK, pixie and madmouse.

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 11:51

Ah, my extra -long crossposting again- I see you're watching thee birds too, shodatin. " sure it's better in North Yorks than N. Japan." Didn't realise you were there Shock. What an amazing place to live, was my obvious first thought, but -really hope you're OK there ? You are a very understated poster if I'm not completely mistaking which continent you're living on.. Have a soothing Brew. In our virtual garden , all is well. Excellent you saw the birds collecting their nesting material.

shodatin · 13/03/2011 12:16

Hello cityhobgoblin, I'm probably a very baffling poster if you think I'm in Japan, my head was full of disaster photos in Sunday paper, and I was moaning about our RL weather.

I have seeds germinating at present - without a greenhouse I use a window-sill relay system which now includes a (just) frost-free garage window since we recently made a suitable table from odds and ends.
This spring is more interesting than last, and I do have plans for the RL garden, but it will never be as good as snowmash's cybergarden.
Any ideas about choice of seedlings snowmash?

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/03/2011 12:44

Coffee? Coffee?

shodatin · 13/03/2011 14:36

Hello TIANC, thought you'd arrive soon after the Brew. Hope you're enjoying a relaxing day.
There is a feature with a birdbath in my present RL garden, but have not actually figured out how to switch it on (no great enthusiasm for water unless it's warm and soapy), so will leave it to you to decide. Shall we wait until madmouse and Pixie arrive, don't want them worrying about DCs /water.

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 14:48

Blush I knew I'd get it wrong, shodatin*! I just couldn't work out which of those 2 locations was yours , & was obviously concerned. Also, I thought your nickname sounded slightly Japanese...oh my- " I must be a very baffling poster" - Grin -no, that'd be me.

Ooooo what an exciting ideas for water features , TIANC & her DP - the latter sounds especially beautiful when you add in some dappling . Thank you for remembering my suggestion for dragonflies & maybe even some toadspawn - I think those would vote for the still water in the "Moorish jobby" , but we can always sink an old washing-up bowl in a shady spot & that'll be room enough for them to breed. Any water features in our cybergarden will have an invisible force shield which repels all non- aquatic creatures- safe for children, pets and the creatures therein.

shodatin, your seed relay system sounds efficient ( especially impressed at your making a new table), & I hope you have a lovely spring with your RL garden. We have an old porch where we currently live & that has been great fun for propagating seeds.

Hope everyone has a relaxing afternoon. I've just made a fresh jug of coffee to rouse me from my deeply soothed state after contemplating our garden again, and there's a pot of chamomile and lemon tea on the summerhouse table too.

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 14:51

Ah SHODATIN & TIANC*, I've discovered that cyber water features need hold no dangers for DC- please see my ramble above

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 14:52

Oops, sorry for capitals

shodatin · 13/03/2011 16:07

Glad my nationality's sorted - will read through next morning communication for sense before posting.
As for nickname, someone else on here has a very similar name, which is unfortunate, but ODAT has family connections so we use it for social stuff.

While I'm anonymous, would someone please answer a silly question? Too daft to ask in RL, but is it today that the clocks change? I've been involved in usual Sunday socialising by phone and Skype, but no-one's mentioned it . What's the time please?

shodatin · 13/03/2011 16:50

Surely someone knows? Please? Blush Or I shall have to ask someone I know, and that would be so embarrassing...

madmouse · 13/03/2011 16:50

Hi all just popping in to say I'm stil here and to send warm vibes to Snowmash

Not in a place to post a lot on here right now - thanks for posting on my thread Snowmash xx

madmouse · 13/03/2011 16:50

No shodatin - not today

shodatin · 13/03/2011 16:54

Thanks madmouse - just Googled it! Can't think why it's on my calendar.

Hope all's well for you and family madmouse - I didn't realise you had a thread. (Embarrassed again)

snowmash · 13/03/2011 18:01

madmouse really glad you're still here and thinking of you - sorry I can't post much helpful on yours.

Wild flower meadow seedlings to start with...

Dread tomorrow/tues

cityhobgoblin · 13/03/2011 18:27

Love those wild flower seed mixes! The local community centre garden looks fab when they use that.
Sorry you're so dreading Mon / Tues, snowmash. That's because of the matters you were talking about yesterday, I think ? Consultant's round on Tues? Hope we can be of some help.

Very sorry you're going through the mill , madmouse - haven't seen thread either. Very best of luck.

Ah, I didn't realise about similarly - named person , shodatin. I had to nip out so didn't see your time query - I tend get that confusion every time the clocks go back!

Hello Pixie, am assuming your DD2 is still at home with you?

Good idea to have wildflowers snowmash, they are lovely. It would encourage bees too. I had some wildflowers at the last place, just to avoid doing more mowing than I absolutely had to. I do wish we could have some for Britain in Bloom instead of the usual half-
hardies by the roadside.

My vote for the garden is a tree - any kind of "real" native tree, because I miss having one in my present small RL garden.

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/03/2011 21:52

Ooh, wildflowers! Yes please! Can we have a meadowy bit round an apple tree or two, with, hmm, what do you say to a rowan tree, shodatin, with brilliant red autumn berries for the birds? Or beech, ash, oak or birch also very fine.

Maybe the green, cool, critter-filled pond could be down there too, which should suit the insects better than heat.

Then the poshe foutain by the french windows, so we can listen to the water and watch birds drinking even on flat/indoors days.

shodatin, I've always thought your name sounded Japanese, too. (Been watching news aghast with everyone else. Sad)

Night all, sleep well, thinking of everyone

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/03/2011 22:26

And thank you for the suggestion about eating out in daytime, too. It's a great to get out and about in the daylight, isn't it?

I always get tempted to push the envelope a bit if it's sunny, tho, and DP has to keep a stern eye and tell me it's time to go home. And then I sulk. Or over-do things and burst into tears on the high street. Blush

Hmm, maybe less temptation after an evening meal, when there's nothing to do but come home. But mostly I think DP likes it as a flash of his old life when we were both working and could eat out on a whim. [lucky swine emoticon]
