snowmash's cybergarden

We filled up your thread, snowmash! So here's another one.

Neither weather nor circumstance seems to be cooperating at the moment, so I thought we could do with a virtual garden to sit out in.

shodatin has started work already:
"we don't lose anything to the frost here, and nobody thieves our daffs and precious bay trees. Most days will be sunny I think, but sometimes we have rain at night, particularly when we've done some planting..."

And I think it needs a summer house with a chiminea or the like to sit round after dark and toast our tootsies.

Glad you popped in kizzie and I hope you're having a good day. It's not often I add anything useful, more letting snowmash know there's someone available for a chat, and having relaxing thoughts about our cybergarden, so it's good to have your visits too.

I have to say, hob, I thought the delays were just a Mumsnet thing, like the delays and switch-offs we used to have so many of in the evenings, but have now stopped for some reason. Thanks for good wishes for today; I have some free time p.m. and undecided how much energy will be available!
Hope you're on all the meds now snowmash, and feeling better.

madmouse · 30/03/2011 13:49

I had about 3 hours sleep and survived a morning at work with a totally non fuctioning brain so don't expect too much from me today x

snowmash · 30/03/2011 15:58

Hugs for everyone having horrible or tired or tiring days. Hope they improve.

Conditions are getting worse here - no outside allowed, already started punishing me.

madmouse · 30/03/2011 16:17

snowmash why are you not allowed to go outside? I doubt it is punishment though!

cityhobgoblin · 30/03/2011 16:37

snowmash, is everyone on the ward not allowed outdoors at the moment , or just you? What do staff say is the reason ? Do you feel punished for not wanting to take some of the medication? The staff aren't punishing you ( unless there's a "bad apple", but it doesn't sound like one particular member of staf victimising you ?)" , nor would that be allowed.

Please don't think we're hopelessly naive out here... but although the staff may take on a more personal tone while chatting to you which might feel too "persuasive" and would make some people feel uncomfortable ( I like a very matter of fact tone myself ) , it surely isn't the case that they allow emotion into the conversation ? Do you truly feel they're frustrated with you and taking it out on you ? That would be totally unprofessional .

Afternoon all - excuse me, back in a sec

your

cityhobgoblin · 30/03/2011 17:05

< lights chiminea and hands round more blankets >

< directs the sparrows , blue tits and wagtails to put on an amusing show for unplugged TIANC and frazzled madmouse and hardworking kizzie and pixie & shodatin , who may well also be exhausted after her free afternoon , and most of all for snowmash >

Please tell us a bit more about the worse conditions today snowmash , when you have a minute to spare . Sorry it's so bleak .

Thanks shodatin, agree it definitely used to be associated with Mn going offline...I will try and get to the bottom of it. Hope you enjoyed your afternoon & that TIANC feels better later on.

Some things to do now so this evening will try to leave you in peace ( as I keep promising so verbosely)

cityhobgoblin · 30/03/2011 17:06

unhooked TIANC , not unplugged

snowmash · 30/03/2011 17:55

It's bcause they don't want me leaving - now saying they will section if I try to walk out too.

madmouse · 30/03/2011 19:57

snowmash hun no one who is psychotic is safe outside on their own - that's why they need you stay x

shodatin · 30/03/2011 20:03

You're right snowmash, it is because they don't want you leaving, and they certainly will section you if you try to leave, just because you're not well enough to manage by yourself. It's not because they don't like you, it's because it wouldn't be safe until you've recovered.

It must get boring, particularly being inside all the time. Why don't you let me/us send you a few things to make life easier while you're stuck in there?

shodatin · 30/03/2011 20:06

Hi madmouse, hope you've either managed to have a nap or got a second wind after your disturbed night and stressful morning. Hope TIANC's feeling better too.

cityhobgoblin · 30/03/2011 23:53

snowmash , so sorry if the staff didn't really explain the "rules" they've been working under since you've been voluntary , or if you didn't know the way it works. You must be reeling from the draconian methods atm but they're not to punish you at all, as everyone here is saying. You must , however, be feeling rather betrayed & pretty scared .

Please ignore if someone else has gone over this in the meantime B-
What they're saying sounds I think fairly standard for a voluntary person whom the docs consider to be in a state of mental ill -health which they consider treatable , where the voluntary person refuses the treatment they judge has the best chance of helping her , & in the quickest way . ( then the legalities of whether you can be sectioned if you refuse their treatment come into play , and I'm afraid the doctors' case almost always wins out , presumably because mh law errs on the saide of safety? ). Sorry , am out of my depth but the MIND site has lots on this.www.mind.co.uk
It is so detailed , however, that I worry it may stress you reading all the legal stuff , so please talk to a staff member if concerned..

Hope everyone had a much better evening . Please do accept shodatin's lovely idea , snowmash - it would be fun for us to put a few tiny comforts in the post . Please don't be shy to accept - we'll just put in a few inexpensive but jolly items & the sort of snacks that shodatin suggested before , to a pen name you arrange with the ward .

Apologies for not mentioning the posts I won't have seen yet
Peaceful night to all

shodatin · 31/03/2011 00:23

I'm hoping you have a peaceful night too, snowmash, and that you managed to take all the meds this evening. We'd all like you to get well and get back home, and I am sure this is the best way to do it, as hob says above.

Hope TIANC and madmouse have better days tomorrow - night all. And nightcaps all round, we've forgotten them today as TIANC's unwell Brew

shodatin · 31/03/2011 09:45

Good morning all - sunny day here so hope we all enjoy the day, even if it's only a small improvement, snowmash. Have you made enquiries about going outside, or is there someone who would do this for you I wonder?

snowmash · 31/03/2011 09:54

for all.

Bad start...this is tearing me apart.

snowmash · 31/03/2011 09:55

Or Brew

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 10:08

Morning , all. Thank you for remembering the nightcap, shodatin . How are your seedlings coming along ? I'm still trying to sow veggie seeds & flower seeds .

Hope TIANC feels better.. grim when a virus or tummy upset whacks into your other health vulnerabilities

Hope snowmash has managed to talk to staff member /s about the medication , and if still not satisfied that she should take them , understand that at least the doctors genuuinely believe they'll help her .
They can't change the mental health system which comes down strongly on the side of medications which have a fair chance of aiding the person's mental health , ultimately above her rights of choice about any effects of the medication. Really hope the drugs do help you as hoped .

Is there no chance at all of an accompanied trip into the grounds , snowmash ? If not , you must feel very low . Please don't lose hope - the darkest hour is before the dawn and all that.

Hope you got more sleep , madmouse, & that pixie & kizzie have a good day

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 10:09

Sorry to hear feeling so bad, snowmash. Thanks for the Brew

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 10:13

We all want to support you through bad days . We look forward to much better ones for you.

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 10:16

Sorry snowmash, I should have asked - do you mean the decision / pressure to take the medication is tearing you apart?

shodatin · 31/03/2011 10:21

Hi snowmash, and thanks for remembering the Brew.
I'm wondering if you could negotiate outside time? Or is it maybe that they don't have enough staff to prevent you from walking if you're outside? Because they are legally responsible for your safety, they might not want to take this greater risk (just an idea), but there might be some way round. Is there anyone there you can ask for help?
Morning hob, hope you slept well and are enjoying sunshine. Tomato seedlings are a bit leggy, otherwise all well thankyou

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 10:54

Excellent idea shodatin . Must feel awful to try and negotiate for such things , snowmash , but the staff daren't risk any incident .

Good sleep thanks shodatin , hope same for you & snowmash ... cool and windy here , which I find v good for energy - maybe this cooler & cloudier week will make your tomato seedlings slow their growth spurt ? Don't think my toms will like the glass roof of the porch beeing replaced with slate but the builders painted the ceiling bright white , which will help reflect the light.
Hope you have a good day.

madmouse · 31/03/2011 11:34

Hey snowmash can you explain what in particular (I'm sure there are lots of things) is tearing you apart?

You know where I am if you want to talk things through..

Better here thanks - was so tired I actually slept, cycled 5 miles in the wind and sun, had my singing lesson (opened my mouth and some proper classical sound came out - I'm a worship band singer and a bit of a folkie so that is not how I normally sing!) and I collapsed in giggles - then cycled back again and am now grabbing a few minutes peace before the school taxi delivers ds back

cityhobgoblin · 31/03/2011 12:10

10 miles in wind & rain!!! Have been bursting to ask you what type of band you're in . I do know a folk singer who sings with a very zestful Christian worship band which often plays for 2 hours ! ( fortunately he lives far away ).. Do you play for a long session if moved to do so , or is it a more scheduled thing?

So envious of your having a voice you can turn to classical singing . Hope DS had nice morning.

Thinking of you, snowmash

madmouse · 31/03/2011 12:19

it was wind and sun not wind and rain Grin

yes I mainly sing worship - in a fairly structured setting during the service. Although due to my dh (priest) being on placement in a different church and me mostly going with him I'm not singing on Sundays right now, but I still rehearse with the band on Mondays - for friendship and because singing is essential for my mental health!
