We filled up your thread, snowmash! So here's another one.

Neither weather nor circumstance seems to be cooperating at the moment, so I thought we could do with a virtual garden to sit out in.

shodatin has started work already:
"we don't lose anything to the frost here, and nobody thieves our daffs and precious bay trees. Most days will be sunny I think, but sometimes we have rain at night, particularly when we've done some planting..."

And I think it needs a summer house with a chiminea or the like to sit round after dark and toast our tootsies.

It was horrible

He says I'm psychotic, take drugs in next few days or section 3.

kizzie · 29/03/2011 20:12

oh snowmash Sad - im sorry it was so horrible. Try to see it as simply a medical term - and not in any way any kind of judgement on you as a person. Because that is exactly what it is - a symptom of an illness that needs treating.

do you feel to restart the meds? x

kizzie · 29/03/2011 20:12

Sorry 'able' to restart the meds ...

ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:18

Oh lordy, sorry you're being threatened with another section. Sad

(((hugs)))

OP posts:
snowmash · 29/03/2011 20:23

I can't because they will poison me, but then they will give them to me? (not sure how as no injection)

shodatin · 29/03/2011 20:23

Sorry it was so difficult for you snowmash. I did wonder how they would treat you if you were not taking all the meds - I'm afraid I don't understand section 3.

ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:25

Which bit are you finding most difficult about accepting the meds? Is it the whole idea of "psychosis"? It's very undermining, isn't it?

OP posts:
ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:26

X-posted.

Are other people on the ward taking the same meds?

OP posts:
shodatin · 29/03/2011 20:27

Just read last post snowmash - they really won't poison you, the meds are perfectly safe to take, suggest you ask one of the nurses to explain.

ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:27

Are they being poisoned too? Or are you worried about interactions with your other drugs?

OP posts:
ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:28

Sorry, we're all talking at once.

OP posts:
snowmash · 29/03/2011 20:29

Poor minimouse :( I've only had Botox awake, but it is stingy.

snowmash · 29/03/2011 20:33

Section 3 is a treatment section - they can forcibly give you medication and it lasts for up to six months. I don't know about it at all. :(

I am worried that the drugs are poisoning me - one isn't taken by anyone else :(. Surely they can't restrain me and tip them down my throat?

ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 20:37

Would it help at all to look up the drug in the BNF? Or talk to the hospital pharmacist? S/he's probably dished out the drug before and can talk sensibly about it.

So sorry (((snowmash)). What madmouse said . I know you know this, but the term psychotic has all sorts of grades / aspects to it , including many of the states of mind we are all familiar with as part of physical states / life stages , but this is a sustained bout of thinking caused by your depression and harmful to you.-The staff want to help restore you to a safe baseline of mental health .

If you can't have injections I'm not sure what they'd do - do you feel able to ask ? I'm sure they don' t want you to feel frightened. They hope you'll feel able to take medication somewhat willingly at least.

Please don't lose heart ( so hard for you , I see this is a nightmarishly long struggle stuck in that place ) but the medication may really , really help .
Whichever part of the treatment does help soon , there are people here who want to hold your hand through this .

cityhobgoblin · 29/03/2011 20:48

I thought that 3 was the most commonly imposed section , not unusual ( like that would be a comfort ). I didn't realise you needed more info about your legal rights re: forced medication , snowmash:(. Why on earth haven't staff explained this to you.

That's exactly the right word , madmouse- undermining.

So tell me about this use of Botox. I've only heard of it as sleb silliness. But sounds like it has therapeutic uses.

(Not much fun for littlemouse to need a GA, tho. And snowmash, sounds like it was ouchy.)

cityhobgoblin · 29/03/2011 21:28

Feel a bit as if we've failed you in terms of support snowmash if you weren't aware of the possible consequences of not taking some of your tablets - I mean , the serious risks if you were going to miss out some meds and not tell staff , you knew and acted upon up to a point, but I didn't realise you didn't really get that the doctors might respond as they have today. Feel rotten for you but confident that you can get through all this

cityhobgoblin · 29/03/2011 21:30

Oops , sorry to interrupt the flow of conversation

hob, there's a Biscuit and Brew waiting for you when your chores are done!

sorry that was so tough snowmash - I do think they are right to say you are psychotic and I wish I could make you see that your belief that they are poisening you is a classic example of psychotic ideas...

I've done a bit of research on how they would force you to take meds and they are going to keep asking your consent and do as little as possible against your wishes, and they also avoid using restraint and force wherever possible.

I would ask you again to jusy try to take the meds for a while to see if it will help and set yourself a target to review, maybe a week or so later.

No one is going to poison you x

madmouse · 29/03/2011 21:54

botox is used to reduce spasticity in the muscles of people, in particular children with cerebral palsy. My ds has cp on his right hand side, his leg is ok-ish but his arm is very stiff and the stiffness prevents him using his hand. Plus for every muscle there is one that does the opposite so every spastic muscle means one underused and weak muscle too. The idea is to slacken the stiff muscles and work hard on the other ones (physio twice a week instead of once plus daily exercises) in the hope that in the 3 months that the botox lasts he will make some permanent progress. he wants to use his arm and hand but the harder he tries the stiffer the arm gets.

ThisIsANiceCage · 29/03/2011 22:03

Thanks, madmouse, that's really interesting. Very best of luck for littlemouse's treatment - sounds like a pretty demanding regime.
