We filled up your thread, snowmash! So here's another one.

Neither weather nor circumstance seems to be cooperating at the moment, so I thought we could do with a virtual garden to sit out in.

shodatin has started work already:
"we don't lose anything to the frost here, and nobody thieves our daffs and precious bay trees. Most days will be sunny I think, but sometimes we have rain at night, particularly when we've done some planting..."

And I think it needs a summer house with a chiminea or the like to sit round after dark and toast our tootsies.

Grin they are perfection, aren't they.

Hope you're getting some rest snowmash, and I'll search out a couple of advocacy sites in the next hour , as I need to be up a bit longer.

ThisIsANiceCage · 25/03/2011 01:25

My bedtime too.

Hope everyone gets some sleep - and Pixie doesn't see envelopes dancing in front of her eyes when she closes them.

See you all again tomorrow. Smile

Hi all

snowmash what's going on? I come back from a few days away to find that you think the staff wants to kill you? They don't my love, they honestly don't.

Wondering where all this paranoia comes from if the doctor says you are not psychotic.

Hope you are getting some rest and coping.

Hi everyone!

cityhobgoblin · 25/03/2011 08:58

Morning all. Hi,madmouse! Hope you feel refreshed & hat
your DS enjoyed seeing your family.

Sorry for incomplete response/s last night, snowmash- internet been "freezing " for long periods of time in local area . This may well make the following out of date , as I'm missing the last hour or so : Very glad you're able to speak here about your feelings, but it's harmful to you not to be able to do so with staff, so I hope you'll feel able to eventually ( please bear with me on this ).

In the meantime, I - we all - really recommend you take all the doses for the next week at least , because a) the various medicines are being prescribed in conjunction with the ones you're hiding, so wrecking the beneficial overall effects, as others have said to you
b) the chances of the staff intentionally poisoning you are so low as to effectively be nil - truly, I'm not being glib ...FWIW (ha!), I completely agree with you that med staff can & regularly do cover up patient deaths due to negligence by citing error etc, but not due to intentional murder by staff. It absolutely does not make sense that the staff in your hospital want you dead. Do you think they agree with your feelings about yourself? So sorry you're going through this stress.
< Goes to try again re: linking to sources of independent advice for you >
< puts out soothing herbal teas for all & childishly looks for someone to tell about her Bleeding Heart flowering already >

shodatin · 25/03/2011 09:30

Good morning all, I seem to have missed a great deal last night, and hope that snowmash is making more sense this morning. No-one wants you dead dear, you are suffering from depression and need the drugs to keep you sane - this daft idea about doctors and nurses wanting you dead has occurred because you are not taking the prescribed dosage. Please just take the tablets. As I remember, various advocacy organisations have posters on the walls with telephone numbers, so just contact any one of them for an opinion. Please.

Welcome back madmouse and hope you enjoyed the break.

madmouse · 25/03/2011 10:33

It was a good if in some ways emotional trip - it just didn't end so good - our car broke down just coming off the eurotunnel train and we spent 5 hours on a recovery truck going home - bless my little man for being either happy/excited or asleep. Car is being towed to the mechanic workshop this lunchtime, hope it can be fixed easily, as we are waiting for a call to say that our spanking new motability car is ready - talk about bad timing!!

Snowmash I wish I could make you see the need to take your meds - you're in a vicious circle now that you can break by taking them. Can you not trust us and take them for a week, like on trial, and if it doesn't help reconsider your decision?

Good point about posters, shodatinBlush
oh no, that isn't going to be a clickable link , is it- will post it and see.

Unfortunately can only do link one per post- am only sending you these very obvious links snowmash as it can take several minutes to find the guides to accessing advocacy on any of the sites , rather than the studies and campaigns on the topic

I don't know if you feel able to trust the independent Mental health advocate whose details you should have received in a leaflet from the hospital when you were admitted. A page from a leaflet for advocates outlining good practice: may clarify a few issues:

shodatin · 25/03/2011 11:36

Hope your car's soon sorted madmouse, and glad your ds seems to have enjoyed the experience - that five hours could have been very different.

Hope snowmash has made contact with an advocat and/or had an honest talk with staff about medication. - it's the way out of the nightmare, truly.

You're doing well with links, hob, I must have a practice soon . (Only just managing to do bolds)

It must be about time for a Brew goes to put kettle on...

ThisIsANiceCage · 25/03/2011 12:11

I have lured you to the dark side, shodatin... Grin

Hope everyone got some decent rest, esp snowmash.

Good to see you back madmouse, sorry about the car. Fingers crossed for your motability one, tho. That sounds great!

Here's that link made clickable:
www.mind.org.uk/help/rights_and_legislation/mind_guide_to_advocacy#suitable
You've been really busy, hob.

Btw, on my MN there's now a tick box saying "Convert links automatically" below this space where I'm typing. Do you have that?

You can check whether your link has worked by using the Preview Message button instead of Create Message button. If the link has worked, it will be in blue.

OP posts:
shodatin · 25/03/2011 12:27

Thanks for info re links TIANC, and yes, I do have that tick box. Glad to know I was not miles off when assuming links were always blue...
Will have a click at the one you found, but as I remember, every noticeboard in every hospital has information about PALS and Mind, with local numbers, plus others which are local only, how to contact various clergy etc.

Hope you're not overdoing it TIANC, remembering the huge changes possible in your house since yesterday.

cityhobgoblin · 25/03/2011 12:42

Oh dear lord madmouse, 5 HOURS once they finally picked you up. So glad DS coped well. Awful timing indeed - good luck.
Hope emotion and exhustion don't take too much of a toll on you - please rest where you can.

snowash As my link is rubbish , you can find it on the MIND site , obviously - next to Home , click " How we can help you"

then click on Info and Advice- Advocacy is 3rd down .
Unfortunately, whilst you are understandably scared of the consequences of talking to anyone about your worries, you're going to get more unwell & scared, not better by using your own methods , if you can't discuss your concerns then accept treatment in hopes it will make you realise the good intent of staff. At the moment it sounds as if you believe your current thinking totally & are thus likely to lose the effects of your efforts so far in talking with staff & taking tablets. Everyone on this thread feels this.

(I wrote this stuff about advocacy but it's not that relevant compared to the other bitso please forgive me putting it in brackets for you if you want to come back to it snowmash. Apologies - it wouldn't cut and paste).

((( Some years ago I sought help from an advocacy group & felt betrayed by the advocate appearing to be very familiar and friendly with the local CMHT , rather than being impartial in helping me understand the options ( DH felt that too - I wasn't misjudging due to my then depression) If this is one of the concerns stopping you contacting local independent charities etc, I urge to try one and see if you get an independent minded worker who can help you get advice from say, a pharmacist (whoop de do) but at least a pharmacist not on your treatment team , and some advice on your fears for your safety. You absolutely can find someone who will listen

I realise you must be concerned s / he would be obliged to report any serious concerns back to your team, but generally an advocate would rather help you see the situation more clearly than only trudge off to your staff to say your depression is hampering insight at the moment , and your fears may be causing you to put yourself at risk :( . If that did happen you might then be "worse off " , seen as more unwell by your team if that happens, but only for a short time as the advice you get may help you accept treatment & your life on the ward will give staff a fuller picture anyway )))

Please give yourself a chance of thinking truly clearly by - continuing to be brave and sitting it out, as pixie & others say,

  • listening to the advice of the staff on your current mental state - (we will listen to you if you really think they want to harm you, and help you to talk to an advocate )
  • by getting further advice if you want it on your medication and on your feelings about the intent of the staff so you can continue treatment voluntarily .... but:
You don't have to research things and try to make yourself trust your treatment if you feel too grim - you can come back to that shortly- what you can't expect is to be in a fit state to do so if you're missing tablets and not telling the staff. They will assess your mental state as worse not better next week, surely, if they don't see improvement from the recent increase.. Won't that make your stay longer & increase side effects ?

Incredibly sorry for long post- I try to edit down but my physical health problem causes me big problems with articulacy.

Hope today we will all feel the rays in our garden of the gorgeous hot sun we have down south atm

Thanks TIANC and shaodatin! I (at long, long last ) tried the converts automatically button but it didn't work - may well have coincided with the star of one of the internet freezes we keep getting. Will try playing at proper links later!

Yes TIANC, shodatin speaks sense on not overdoing it (and as for pixie...) Your and shodatin's posts from yesterday afternoon were very uplifting , all those water features and singing birds and lovely pottering about choosing plant supplies

< off for chores and sensible rests >

Hob, what makes you think you have problems with articulacy... I think you put it very well, so there's very little I could add. Sunny here too.

Snowmash, I hope you're back to taking tablets now, and eating meals/snacks, as you were doing so well until recently.

Morning Pixie, hope you're having a less busy day today.

cityhobgoblin · 25/03/2011 15:41

That is amazing progress by DD2 pixie & so glad to hear it. You must have dreamt of being able to take her on a simple outing - hope she can get lots of fresh air this spring. Is it overwhelming for her to be in a bustling place when she's at the height of the chair? Or did she lose confidence / interest in being out ? ( hate to think of that being the case). From what you've said about DD2, she sounds very "good" with her siblings - bet the twins have been entertaining her .Great if you can have a quiet afternoon .

Having a good day, thanks - hoping to get to the TUC anti - cuts march tomorrow & getting organised for that ( must get over to other thread )

You are lovely shodatin , thank you so much . Excellent about your sunshine !
Hope you're OK snowmash.. Sorry for talking so much earlier - I won't ask questions when you post , honest. Hope your physical pain has eased - muscle spasm was particularly bad I think? (not meant as a "question" question)

< puts rugs out on cybergrass for those who can stop for a nap >

snowmash · 25/03/2011 21:29

Welcome back madmouse and sorry to hear about the breakdown - hope you get the new car soon.

Hello everyone else too, and thanks for the advice. I talked to non-nursing staff today but neither believed me :(. Going back into them saying I'm unwell.

Haven't decided about tonight yet - whether to risk taking some that lots of people take...

Hope everyone 's had a chance to look at the stars tonight. Do we have any little solar lanterns in our garden? - not too modern and obtrusive, just 2 or 3 tucked well into the more shrubby sort of areas to add depth ? ( or some artistic term that eludes me).
Hope your day has been bearable, snowmash

cityhobgoblin · 25/03/2011 21:38

Oh no-so sorry, internet problems again- no posts from this evening were showing up so I posted something silly. Sorry, snowmash

snowmash · 25/03/2011 21:40
