We filled up your thread, snowmash! So here's another one.

Neither weather nor circumstance seems to be cooperating at the moment, so I thought we could do with a virtual garden to sit out in.

shodatin has started work already:
"we don't lose anything to the frost here, and nobody thieves our daffs and precious bay trees. Most days will be sunny I think, but sometimes we have rain at night, particularly when we've done some planting..."

And I think it needs a summer house with a chiminea or the like to sit round after dark and toast our tootsies.

Wishing everyone else a good night - as much as I like the idea of looking at stars from our summerhouse, today has really been long enough already.

cityhobgoblin · 16/03/2011 23:07

Aw shodatin , hope you wake refreshed . Very peaceful night all

shodatin · 17/03/2011 10:33

Morning all, have overslept this morning but am certainly refreshed, cityhobgoblin, and hoping everyone else is feeling well today.

snowmash · 17/03/2011 11:04

Glad you are feeling refreshed shodatin !

How is everyone else today?

I'm hungry - wonder if it's the drugs

Morning morning. Good to see you all!

So today, during breaks in the important task of lounging in the summerhouse, never further than a hand's reach from a Brew, I have to sort my books onto the new shelves.

I'm planning alphabetical for fiction. But I'm going to break with a lifetime's tradition and have a librarianly Tall Books shelf: those poncy and annoying hardback gifts will have to bog off to the bottom shelf and let the paperbacks snuggle up together.

But first there must be drilling: not enough shelf positions, grr. I may be forced to have just one more Brew before I start. Or perhaps two. Grin

I don't know what lunch is ( only quarter of an hour).

Technically fruit is available 24 hrs, but some people just eat it all.

shodatin · 17/03/2011 12:10

Hi snowmash - am so pleased you have an appetite today; may it be the start of a new recovery (and may the hospital produce something tasty and hot when it arrives.)
Shame all the fruit gets eaten - can we send something in for you?
Good for you TIANC, an excellent day for organising books, and I always wonder why I didn't do it sooner.
My large ones are at the bottom too, since I noticed one of the shelves (cheap old book-case) was bowing in the middle.
I'm part-way through potting-up seedlings, nothing very interesting, and am also postponing a couple of difficult letters, awaiting inspiration I mean...

cityhobgoblin · 17/03/2011 12:17

Hello all! Excellent to hear you've been feeling munchy , snowgarden .
Glad you had a refreshing sleep-in shodatin - I did too.
Hope you're OK after your exertions yesterday, pixie.

cityhobgoblin · 17/03/2011 12:25

Oooo just seen all the lovely book organising / drilling / potting- up and awaiting of inspiration - (hope it arrives in time ).
I always wonder how people in hospital manage on the little food available, and agree it would be good if we could send some snacks.

ThisIsANiceCage · 17/03/2011 13:00

Potting seedlings always interesting - what have you got? ShamrockShamrockShamrock

(I know, I know, but I'm allowed a MN sit down. I've marked up the holes and identified a not-exact-but-it'll-do drill bit, so now I just have to track down a new plug to rewire the extension lead. DP can never understand why jobs like "reorganising books" take so long...)

That's a bit rough that all the fruit gets nabbed, showmash. We could send you some dried apricots or apples or something for a stash.

OP posts:
shodatin · 17/03/2011 13:21

We could indeed send healthy snacks like dried fruit, being sensible females, but when brother was hospitalised he spent most of "allowance" on chocolate, which I understand is a mood-improver. We could also send some of that snowmash, say the word.

shodatin · 17/03/2011 16:12

Back for second lot of seedlings (just annuals getting a quick start TIANC) after taking time off for town while the sun was shining, and now for the tomatoes, going into penultimate pots. While I was out, a friend sent me some amusing stuff from the net, which will help me out with one of the difficult letters, believe it or not, so all is well at present, and might have a Brew to celebrate.

Snowmash, I do hope you got enough to eat. Please let us/me privately have your name/address if we can send anything to make life easier for you. I know you're managing and being brave, but we'd feel better if we could do something useful to lighten the load.

ThisIsANiceCage · 17/03/2011 16:55

Still conscience stricken impressed with the garden stuff, shodatin. Good luck with the tricky letters.

Hope lunch was good, snowmash. I've been rewarding my labours with porridge and honey - yummy winter filler if I'm short of bread.

OP posts:
shodatin · 17/03/2011 17:36

Thanks TIANC - How did your book re-organisation go?
(First, build your shelf..)

I half-noticed some new-fangled instant porridge already flavoured when last in the supermarket, and just wondered if snowmash might like to try some while in hospital? There's nothing better on a cold morning, and it seems very simple.

ThisIsANiceCage · 17/03/2011 18:58

Facing the reality that the To Read pile is now two shelves long.Shock And that's just fiction.ShockShock

Goodnight everyone - snowmash, I hope you're OK.

cityhobgoblin · 18/03/2011 00:09

Aha- local internet problems most of the day just eased up Hmm Smile Fab work TIANC ( & that's many fewer shelves of unread fiction than I have - except mine are in boxes

I just knew you'd make progress with the difficult letters, shodatin, excellent.

Had a good day- 2 men turned up with no warning from the landlady and took down very old porch and rebuilt it with draught- free UPVC ( I know, I know ) which also feels more secure. Best of all, they kept the lower, brick part so it still feels old fashioned Grin.

( May I mention this a minute- very rude of me ) : Went to one of the meetings organising the TUC anti cuts demo on the 26th - I believe at least one of you is very active on a thread about the proposed cuts to DLA & I thought I'd mention if you can't get to London that day ( I'm not certain I can ) there are things you can do in your own area to bring the details of the cuts to a wider audience-health & commitments permitting , of course - sorry to try to bully you.

If snowmash doesn't want us to know her RL name etc, she could arrange wih the ward to have a parcel delivered to a nom de guerre .

Hope everyone has a good night,- hi pixie, madmouse and kizzie.

cityhobgoblin · 18/03/2011 00:13

Sorry, snowmash, I meant if you wanted to . After all I'm only assuming that could be arranged.

PS isn't that exciting moon due tomorrow / friday?

cityhobgoblin · 18/03/2011 00:15

Blush I mean Saturday...

ThisIsANiceCage · 18/03/2011 00:39

Yy I am so organised and there really isn't a huge pile of leftover books .Grin

hob may take you up on that (ver' discreet of you, but I hope snowmash will forgive us sitting out in the garden to talk strategy!).

I'm having a summit w DP this weekend to try to work out if it's feasible/sensible for me to attend the 26 March march. I'd dearly love to go, but frankly without a bathchair I can't imagine how (now there's an excellent device that's gone out of fashion Grin)!

Sounds like you've had an immensely productive day, btw. That's fab about the porch - should cut your heating bills a bit.

Hope everyone's had a good day, and sleeps well tonight.

snowmash, here are some ShamrockShamrockShamrock to brighten the place up a bit.

cityhobgoblin · 18/03/2011 08:18

Morning all!
Very kind reply to my awful post TIANC, thank you. I was obviously still fired up & should have posted on campaigning thread. So sorry it's near impossible for you to go , but there are many things we can do from home . I'ts interesting meeting a few of the new generation of campaigning young adults - very determined.

Grin at huge pile & good point , we can help brighten up the place for snowmash

Hope you're feeling OK this morning , snowmash - really sorry for my rudeness and waffle. Hope there are a fair few positive points in your day.
