It's my fault that the NHS is too expensive

Chicken casserole sounds lovely. I like PB too and missed the thread somehow. Have just skimmed through now, and agree it should be in classics, so thanks for a bit more amusement on this grim and grey day.

My main meal is at mid-day now I'm at home, so I just have home-made soup at night, leek and tatie actually. And a chocolate biscuit usually. Anyone else eating something interesting? (While we await snowmash's return)

Pixielovescake · 19/02/2011 20:51

Hi snowmash. I just wanted to check in. I wanted to tell you I do understand how you feel. I haven't been sectioned exactly but I was hospitalised in my mid teens by my parents and as I was under sixteen I had no choice. I understand the feeling to total loss of control it was awful for me as a young person I can imagine it must be worse for an adult woman. I was devestated by the choice and haven't ever fully forgiven my parents. However while it was a terrible thing I did recover. I'm still unsure whether the hosptial helped or if it was because I wanted to leave so desperatly I managed to control the worst of it. The loss of control, freedom and also privacy were the worst things for me. If you can try to get some boundaries/ agreements in place so you have a tiny bit more control ? Little things like being able to sit up at night if you want to ! You should feel you can sit up if you want and not be yelled at. I found things like that helpful ie I had a key and permission to lock my chest of draws so no one could see personal things eg underwear. If you want to talk you can always pm me. Hope you re ok and try and eat something if you can.

shodatin · 19/02/2011 20:55

Hello again snowmash, so glad you posted, although I seem to have crossed.

They are right, you are not bad at all, and the section order is because you are not well enough to be outside the hospital alone, not because any doctor is upset by your comments.

Snowmash, I hope you have a better night, and wake refreshed in the morning. Have to sleep now, so hope everyone else has a good night.

Really glad to hear from you, snowmash - lousy reception notwithstanding. And glad you're back on the drugs; I hope they prove useful to you.

And no, of course you haven't been bad to anyone. Smile You said the door to the JR neuro ward can't be opened from inside, because after brain injury/surgery people are confused and might wander off and hurt themselves? I'm guessing the W is similar. Psychiatry is also about brain malfunction, just coming at it from a different angle.

Casserole came out yummm, btw ; shepherds' pie a fave here too, Pixie.

Greedy guts here off to bed. Hope everyone gets a good rest tonight. Sleep well all. Wink

snowmash · 20/02/2011 10:50

I will think about being 'ill'. All this cooking sounds lovely.
TIANc the thing is that lots of people here can ask staff to let them out (like I would in neuro). Even some people on section. But I cannot. It's not fair and doesn't make sense.

What's everyone doing today?

Good morning TIANC, and glad casserole was good. Being limited on physical pleasures made me more interested in food I think, but will try not to go on about it.

Snowmash, Hope you slept well and have had a good start to the day. Am pleased you're taking the meds, just because I know you will eventually feel better.

Hope you enjoyed breakfast too....

shodatin · 20/02/2011 10:55

Sorry we crossed snowmash. They will let you out too, when you've stabilised and when they can be certain that you will come back, as they are legally responsible for your safety now.

It just means taking the meds and eating meals, nothing needed but time and you'll be ok.

snowmash · 20/02/2011 11:22

Sorry you're limited shodatin. That is sad re: outside. Meals are difficult

OP posts:
shodatin · 20/02/2011 11:32

I noticed less choice in hospital meals, but I've had a couple of "healthy" menus which were really good, an improvement on the old days when newcomers were advised to order the cheese and biscuit option as the best available.
This option was so popular, it could even be used as currency in one hospital.
Hope yours is better than that.

snowmash · 20/02/2011 11:45

It's a dining room not ordering I've been saying yes to first option as I shouldn't be eating

OP posts:
shodatin · 20/02/2011 12:09

I think you should be eating snowmash, is this something to do with the cost to the NHS again?

snowmash · 20/02/2011 12:35

Yes, I shouldn't be taking from the nhs so shouldn't eat/drink/take tablets/be in here
You're the first person to understand :)

OP posts:
Pixielovescake · 20/02/2011 12:43

Snowmash you really need to eat/drink and take your meds. I know you dont want to cost the NHS money but thats all part of your illness and you cant see it right now. The doctors wouldnt have decided you need to be in hospital if they were nt very sure. Have you spoken to anyone about treatment today ?

ThisIsANiceCage · 20/02/2011 12:54

Afternoon.

shodatin · 20/02/2011 13:32

Snowmash, I understand what you're saying but not the reason for it, I'm afraid. Pixielovescake has it right in that your thinking is altered because you're not well, and the doctors actually do want you to get better.

Baically, if you eat and take meds as they want, your health will improve, then you will be able to leave the hospital. Before leaving, they will probably allow you to leave the ward when you wish, but only if they decide you're well enough.

Hello TIANC, a hot drink is a good idea, ta.

shodatin · 20/02/2011 13:33

That word is "Basically", sorry

ThisIsANiceCage · 20/02/2011 13:35

shodatin, I have been causing you problems by going on about food? Blush I'm really sorry. You're right, it looms rather large when one is limited elsewhere.

snowmash, yeah, it must suck being one of the "indoor" folk for the time being. Hope you've managed to get pyjamas and stuff sorted OK.

Nothing exciting planned for here today:

  1. watch recorded telly
  2. nap rinse and repeat. DP is putting (2) into action as I type. Grin
ThisIsANiceCage · 20/02/2011 13:35

Queen of X-posts!

shodatin · 20/02/2011 15:38

TIANC - Not a problem, I like hearing about other people's feasting, and at least three of us are now a bit limited on our legs it seems.

I do enjoy having a rest on Sundays, so have really just been in touch with a few friends
and sorted out a few ecards, phone calls etc.

Snowmash, I hope you've found someone to talk to in the hospital. I'm sure it will get better with time, but must be frustrating just now. Please keep in touch.

snowmash · 20/02/2011 15:43

No, I shouldn't be talking because it uses nhs resources. I've sorted out for tonight what should have happened Friday as they're interrupting less.
