5:2 thread 102: Faster than a speeding bullet!

Welcome to the continuing thread for those following 5:2 or other forms of IF (Intermittent Fasting) such as 4:3, ADF, etc.

Basically it is 2 very low cal days ("fasts") per week - which need not be consecutive - and eat "normally" to maintain on the other 5 days.

For those who have dieted or maybe overeaten for years, eating "normally"
means roughly the number of calories your body needs to maintain - NOT reduce - its weight (see TDEE calculator below).

IMPORTANT
If you have had past diagnosed Eating Disorders or serious MH problems you should NOT do 5:2 or any other kind of fasting

JARGON alert

16:8 is a different type of fasting, which can be combined with 5:2.
Daily zero-cal fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour window. To lose weight, this needs a weekly calorie deficit as well

b2b (optional) back-to-back / consecutive fast days, each with an increased allowance of 650 calories instead of 500

BMI (Body Mass Index) healthy range is 18.5 - 24.9 for Caucasians. Upper limit may be 22 for some of Asian origin.

FD = single Fast Day: aim for 500 calories (600 for men or 25% TDEE whichever is higher) or 1000 cals for BF
No alcohol or junk on FDs
Even if you exercise strenuously, do NOT increase FD cals to allow for exercise

MFP = My Fitness Pal, a useful App or website to track food & drink calories

miniFD = MiniFD, 850-1000 calories, no alcohol or junk

NFD = Non-Fast Day, averages around TDEE

NSV / LSV = Non Scale Victory / LifeStyle (change) Victory, e.g. compliment, smaller waist, clothes size

SV = Scale Victory

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expenditure, the average number of calories you burn in a day, is calculated from your current weight, height, age, activity level.
Aim to average about this for NFDs.

WOE / WOL = Way Of Eating / Way Of Life. We say this instead of "diet", to emphasise that we must make a permanent change in how we eat, to maintain our new healthy weight long term.

Jump in and say hello!!

Kitchen closed on 554 today. Happy with that

harriethoyle · 24/09/2024 20:28

Well done @OohMrDarcy - 731 for me today, and with yesterday's 640 that's 1371 for the b2b which I'm happy enough with!

OohMrDarcy · 25/09/2024 07:06

Good job @harriethoyle

I'm at a work event in London today so will make food choices out of whatever is offered. Was decent last year so should be ok

harriethoyle · 25/09/2024 08:01

Back to my pre-holiday weight which is a relief! FD tomorrow. I’ve also got DH on board in terms of NFD and we’re trialling a month of concentrating on lean protein and veg with limited processed carbs. I’m just sick of yoyo-ing between the same two and three kgs! So hoping this might get me off the plateau…

Apologies - posted on wrong thread. Edited to remove random, irrelevant witterings.

CrabPuff · 25/09/2024 18:13

Checking in slightly pointlessly but I don’t want to lose the thread - I didn’t manage any FDs last week and I really thought I’d be able to - but I find it very difficult when travelling. It’s the boredom and the stasis - driving or in a plane or a train. Hopeless. So this week is also a write-off but I hope to be back on it next week at least with one day if possible, as I’m on a more normal schedule.

Glad back to pre holiday weight Harriet and for the pressing on OohMrDarcy.

i’ll be back probably on Monday I think. Must acquire the appropriate dull but serviceable ready meals for a B2B and weigh in. I’m a bit scared about weighing as was so pleased to get to 14st 3 but I know from experience if I don’t weigh (doesn’t have to be all the time but say monthly or every couple of weeks) I definitely get heavier. So will bite the bullet on Monday for a pre fast day shock.

harriethoyle · 26/09/2024 07:03

Morning all, signing in for third FD of the week… not out of bed yet and already hungry!

OP posts:
harriethoyle · 26/09/2024 11:32

It’s 11.30 and I’ve already had lunch 🤣🤣🤣

Kitchen closed on 640. Toast and marmite for breakfast!

harriethoyle · 27/09/2024 08:37

1.9lb off this week- the challenge as ever is maintaining it over the weekend 🤣 I’ve requested a virtuous menu particularly seeing we’re out Monday and Tuesday 🤣🙈

Very impressive HH! Good loss, impressive 3rd FD!

MonkeyTennis34 · 29/09/2024 09:15

Well done @harriethoyle

I've still got 4lb to lose in 4 weeks for our holiday which is highly unlikely but I'm going to try, FDs Tuesday and Thursday 👍🏻

Good luck everyone.

OohMrDarcy · 30/09/2024 07:10

Morning all

Monday morning weigh on and due to only one FD in two weeks I've got the scales showing 98kg!

So back to normal this week... Tuesday and Thursday FDs planned already and hopefully with the return of slow cooker season all will be well

MonkeyTennis34 · 30/09/2024 07:39

@OohMrDarcy
Oohhh, slow cooker season...

Please post any delicious slow cooker recipes!

harriethoyle · 30/09/2024 08:49

Morning all, am off to London for a work jolly and only have space for one fd this week which will be Wednesday. Back to normal next week but this week will be a question of limiting the damage…

OP posts:
CrabPuff · 30/09/2024 08:49

Checking in for the first FD of the week.

not sure if B2B but I think it will have to be otherwise the second will be on Sunday which doesn’t appeal much!

will check in later and no failing!

CrabPuff · 30/09/2024 21:12

Kitchen closed on 566 - I devoted from the plan slightly as ditched a planned risotto for the evening for a pot of pineapple to kill hunger at 6ish. So I’ve just had a hot chocolate and calling it quits today.

I’ll have the risotto tomorrow and something soupy. Might go up to 700 anyway as a little bit of leeway today.

OohMrDarcy · 01/10/2024 08:44

morning all checking in for FD1 of the week today. Have soup planned for dinner tonight which I'm looking forward to

well done @CrabPuff - hope day 2 goes well.

@MonkeyTennis34 - doing a chicken casserole on Thursday (next FD) but I don't follow specific recipes, just sling stuff in lol!

CrabPuff · 01/10/2024 14:12

Afternoon! Have had 319 cal shepherds pie for lunch which wasn’t bad, and going to have that 389 risotto tonight. So a bit over but not terrible. I did weigh this morning and was 14st9 so that’s no good - must stay consistent! 2 weeks off is rotten. I must crack the fasting while travelling.

CrabPuff · 01/10/2024 18:52

Kitchen closed on 705. Again, not ideal and a bit early, but I’ll be more sensible next week and get in the right stuff instead of hunting round a half empty supermarket

OohMrDarcy · 01/10/2024 20:55

Kitchen closed on 560 happy with that.

Well done @CrabPuff

harriethoyle · 02/10/2024 10:16

Morning all, signing in for my one FD of the week. Already starving 😂

OP posts:
harriethoyle · 02/10/2024 21:24

Kitchen closed on 614 but then had to sample tomorrow’s pasta salad to make sure the dressing was right - so near 700 I reckon.

Back on it next Monday!

OohMrDarcy · 03/10/2024 07:16

Checking in for FD2 of the week today.

Have a chicken casserole to pop in the slow cooker for dinner which should be nice

AnnieLewis · 03/10/2024 07:22

Morning. Am attempting a FD. Have been full of good intentions this week but no actual FDs completed due to kids off sick and various other obstacles but aiming to cracking today! Doing baked salmon and veg for dinner. Am already ignoring my tummy rumbling. Anyone else doing today?
