Starting a new thread as I accidentally filled up the old one.

Here’s a link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/talk/fasting_diet/4570776-blood-sugar-diet-fast-800-diet-thread-24

Hope everyone finds this and look forward to welcoming newcomers to the thread too!

I’ve ended up failing today
once my sugar monster opens I struggle….a lot…:

xraydelta · 16/03/2023 20:03

@Addidas you must be kind to yourself! You've been through a lot recently. It's not surprising your body is trying to fight against the idea 😘 be gentle. It'll happen.

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar I love the idea of your tick sheet on your phone and I am going to do similar 😁 Fab idea! I am not sure what to put on mine. I'll have a ponder this evening. My eldest teen has stolen many of my thinner clothes, so buying more might be good 😆 I'd also like to book a massage as the prize for one of my aims. It's such a treat.

My roulette freezer lunch turned out to be turkey and bean chilli, and it wasn't too bad. At least that's all the leftovers now finished up from the freezer.

I only got in the house a few minutes ago, but I had prepped the Parmesan chicken so it won't be too long for dinner. Today's calories will be just under 800 in total and about 25g carbs.

I have so far walked 9,200 steps so I am pretty sure I can make 10,000 today. It's been a real effort though! Steps are something I find hard to get up 😫

It feels odd not having done an exercise class, but I am at the gym at 9 in the morning.

See you on here in the morning 👋🏻

Anewagain · 16/03/2023 20:40

I’d want to encourage you to be gentle on yourself too @Addidas as you recover from recent days.

@xraydelta You sound far better prepped than me. I haven’t got round to freezing any of the meals yet but it’d be super helpful to always have something in. I’ve skipped a run today so am going to have to squeeze that in tomorrow now.

I’ve got a list @TooExtraImmatureCheddar but it’s only got weight loss targets on it so I’ll now be adding some non scale related targets too!

OP posts:
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/03/2023 21:01

My list is extremely detailed so I don’t have to go more than about 2lbs before having something to tick off! I have both amount lost and amount still to go (to ultimate goal of being a healthy weight) eg ‘lost 1 stone’ and ‘1 stone to go’ as well as all the BMI points for my height (which took me ages to work out), and some random goals like ‘10.13.8 = new stone bracket’. The clothes are the wild cards because I don’t know exactly what weight I need to be to fit into them. I have a lot of too small clothes so the list is quite long!

Anewagain · 16/03/2023 21:09

That sounds great @TooExtraImmatureCheddar. I love ticking things off and I’m going to add more now so I have more to tick off. I’ve just found a photo of myself with DH that’s 8lbs down from what I weigh now which I love so that’s going on the list.

OP posts:
VenusInfers · 16/03/2023 22:44

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar Your list sounds amazing- great motivation tool! I wish I was as organised - looking mournfully at skirt/jeans I want to wear and then trying to pull a ‘determined’ face is as close as I get. 😁

@Addidas Sorry you’ve been having a hard time lately. Really hope it’s coming to an end for you.

Okay first week here - down 2kg which is more than I deserve after drinking all some of the wine on Friday. Ramping up exercise and doing something 6days a week now, rather than 3.

I don’t struggle much in the day, it’s that tricky moment between getting home and dinner when a glass of wine or a huge chunk of cheese seems like SUCH a good idea. Sigh..

Anyone else have a least favourite moment in the day?

ts96 · 17/03/2023 00:12

Hello!

Hope it's okay to join in. Started properly today after trying to cut down calories for a wee while. I could really do with the accountability and community!

Currently 187lbs and need to be 159lbs to be in the healthy weight category. I think my ultimate goal would be around 130lbs as I know that I like how I look at that weight with my frame.

Today had:

Tomato and butterbean stew with bulgar wheat.
Soup
One chocolate truffle with my evening cup of tea

That comes in at just under 800, and I had a few quite milky teas today too which I'm sure bumps it up to close to 800 exactly.

Anewagain · 17/03/2023 06:41

Well done @VenusInfers! My hardest time is late afternoon and before dinner when I’m tired and hungry.

Welcome @ts96!

So glad to have found this thread as I’ve just bought the book.

if anyone has any hot tips for a newcomer I’m all ears! I’ve got about 30kg to lose and am so fed up with myself thinking I’ll get round to taking it seriously ‘one day’…

xraydelta · 17/03/2023 10:16

There is a depressing regularity to my morning statement of "still not under 11 stone".

An incredibly niche reference but it reminds me of Latin classes in the late 1980s early 90s where every chapter of the text book started "the carriage is still stuck in the ditch" for about 25 weeks 🙄

I hope I will not be that long, but it does feel never-ending to be stuck like this and it's Mothering Sunday in a few days and damn it, I am going to want wine and a few carbs then!

I have just done a fairly lack lustre circuits class: the proper teacher is away for the weekend and it just didn't have the same good energy. But a bad workout is better than no workout 😁

The menu today is low carb "pizza" - which frankly feels like a faff with cauliflower and almonds... and squeezing into the tea towel, etc. And then low carb minestrone soup for dinner, which is one of my favourites.

I am about to extract the dog from her bed for a potter 😁

Have a great day everyone. And a huge welcome @ts96

Welcome! Have a good read of the book 😁
Which one have you got? Does it have a short recipe section or a longer one?

There's also some free recipes on the fast 800 website. If you are eligible (NHS, some work health clubs) you may want to consider the 12 week subscription to the online programme but there's absolutely no need to. You can get everything from the books and online if you don't mind planning things out fairly meticulously until you get the hang of it.

A decent weighing scale is a must though imo for the recipes as everyone over estimates amounts of meat and carbs 😆 It helped me to be super careful.

ShirleyThePggywinkle · 17/03/2023 10:51

Thanks @xraydelta It’s the 8 week blood sugar diet book and now I can see there are lots of others and I’m wondering if they are more recent/better.

I also discovered I had already bought the fast beach diet book on kindle - no idea when and have never read it 😳

thanks for the info about the programme and scales. I’d better start reading and planning!

OhCobblers · 17/03/2023 11:59

Desperate for some advice please! For transparency I'm also on the low carb boot camp thread!!

For background I lost 2 stone 2 years ago on Fast 800 16:8 low carb/keto combined with exercise 3 times a week. I lost the weight over a 4 month period.

I've since put a stone on and I'm desperate to lose it. However fast 800 doesn't seem to work as I've possibly been doing it for too long and my body has gone into starvation mode?

Ive then stuck to low carb/keto and not calorie counted as much and have been in ketosis but not dropping significantly - I waver between 10.12 and 11.2?!

I just don't know what to do but getting very depressed carrying this extra stone around?!

The low carb bootcamp gang don't think I'm eating enough fat and protein and to concentrate on that and up my calories to kickstart the weight loss?

Would love to hear others thoughts.
Thank you

Anewagain · 17/03/2023 12:37

Welcome @ShirleyThePggywinkle I’ve got the Fast 800 book, the Fast 800 Recipe book (red writing) and the Fast 800 Eash Recipe book (blue writing). I use the red and blue books pretty much daily.

The Blood Sugar one came first and then there’s a more recent Keto one that comes after mine. It’d be interesting to see what’s changed - I think the calories allowance on fast days moved to 800 and also the advice to do the strict fast period for up to 12 weeks (extended from 8)?

I’ve lost 38lbs (17kg) and have about 30lbs (14kg) to go so similar to you.

Welcome @OhCobblers … I’m not sure I know enough to advise. How long have you been doing Fast 800 and does that mean the strict fast? I’m about to finish 12 weeks and so move to 5:2 so am trying to work out how I do that.

OP posts:
xraydelta · 17/03/2023 16:01

@ShirleyThePggywinkle Those are two books I don't have sadly. Can you get a copy from the library of either/both Fast 800 and Fast 800 recipes? Although tbh the blood sugar one sounds much the same tbh.

The website also has has of free info. Try there first?

How many grams of carbs are you having @OhCobblers ?

There are lots of things to kick boost things (I am stuck atm too so have been researching!) You don't have to up calories to rejig things. You can change the food timings and the exercise intensity, or try a short water fast?

I'm personally determined not to up my calories (although Mother's Day will be more!), but I am being really careful about carb levels and meal timings. I am considering a short water fast next week too.

OhCobblers · 17/03/2023 17:04

@xraydelta
Looking at this weeks looks minimum was 2.7g up to 18.5g another day

ShirleyThePggywinkle · 17/03/2023 18:39

Thanks @Anewagain and @xraydelta - I’ll take a look online and at the library over the weekend

Addidas · 18/03/2023 09:26

Morning! I’ve decided to restart on Monday! I’ve doing my week meal
plan today then shopping tonight once kids in bed! Tmrw is Mother’s Day and I quite frankly want carbs and wine!!!! It’s a special day for me as I fought really hard for many years to have my 2 miracles and I don’t want to be weighing out food and not having my sons “lovely” cake he’s baking for me!

I have restarted my excercising. Doing 20 min hit yest and todays is done.

im pretty sure I’ll be back at 11.5 but my diary is free for 2 full weeks so I’m going to really step up no sugar and no alchol in that time at all.

welcome to new people! @OhCobblers i would say everyone struggles the closer you get to goal. I would maybe add in some 14 - 16 hour fasts week one and then maybe try drop calories a little how many do u have usually? What’s ur bmi?

ts96 · 18/03/2023 09:35

Thank you all for a lovely welcome!

Was on a nightshift last night (awful for my eating habits) but had 2 portions of the butterbean stew plus a satsuma and some dark chocolate, plus the milk in many cups of tea. Comes in at around 715 but have a suspicion I may eat more on my next few nights so am sure it will even out.

SaltyAlpaca · 18/03/2023 15:21

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to ask if I can join in. I read the book mid-last year but just wasn't in the right frame of mind to start yet. Like a lot of people, I have gained weight since the first covid lockdown and I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes which don't fit me!

I'm feeling like I can tackle this now, especially since spring is around the corner. I've just ordered both the red and blue recipe books from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow, and I'm sat writing down all the food I can have and some meal ideas.

I'm a pescatarian and eat a lot of veggie meals and fish, so would love to hear if anyone is the same and what's your favourite meals! Hoping to go shopping either tomorrow or Monday and get started Smile

Anewagain · 18/03/2023 15:45

I’m not surprised you find night shifts difficult @ts96! if completely fall apart if I had to do a night shift. Looks like you’ve done really well with having healthy meals planned and prepped.

Welcome @SaltyAlpaca. My absolute favourite vegetarian dish is the Indian-inspired chickpea patties. I make them at least once a week and then have leftovers for lunch the next day. I double the portion for a main meal (think it suggests 200 calories and I up the amount to a 400 calorie portion). Then I also love the Sesame Salmon with spring onions, cherry tomatoes and broccoli but haven’t had that in a while.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

The chickpea patties sound lovely! Are they in one of the recipe books? Looking forward to them arriving tomorrow then I can plan properly Smile

Anewagain · 18/03/2023 16:49

The patties are in one of the books (blue or red) @SaltyAlpaca - can’t remember which one as I use both books interchangeably. The sesame salmon is also in there. Enjoy meal planning!

Hi @SaltyAlpaca 👋🏻

My favourite vegetarian recipe is the green fritters. If it's not in either book, I'll screen shot it for you as it's on the app. It's basically grated courgette, broccoli and goats cheese made into patties with an egg, and it's very yummy 😁

I also eat a lot of fish.

@OhCobblers Are you feeling any better about not just raising calories?

@Addidas that sounds a great plan! Wine and carbs are also featuring in my Mother's Day for similar reasons.

VenusInfers · 18/03/2023 17:34

Hello all & welcome to @SaltyAlpaca @ts96 and the other new starters!
Chickpea patties DO sound yum - must start browsing the recipe book again. Atm, I am being a v bad Fast 800 follower and not really measuring anything. Just looking at some stir fry or a couple of meatballs and thinking, ‘Yeah, that looks about right as long as skip the carbs and have slightly less than I want’ 🤣

Today’s been good - apple and peanut butter for breakfast, homemade carrot soup for lunch (but not the lovely toasted, buttery bagels DH & DS were also enjoying. Sob) and a snack of a couple of slices of ham and cherry tomatoes. Have done 17k steps so halo feels suitably shiny - let’s see how long that lasts!

Enjoy your cake and wine tomorrow @Addidas. And an early Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums on this thread! 💐
