Sorry to hear that @WildePozy, are you feeling better now?

Today has been an ok day. Coffee, chicken salad, yoghurt and a small packet of crisps. Need to work on not snacking at 3pm!!

LotsOfTrees · 18/12/2021 15:53

I’m back after 3-4 months away and am doing a two week blitz of strict Fast 800 which I may extend into the NY. I lost the plot diet wise in recent months and have gained about 10lbs - but I’ve nevertheless still lost 27lbs overall and I’m ready to get going again Xmas Smile

I think a new Michael Mosley cookery book was published? Does anyone know and is it any good / worth adding to my collection as I already have the red and the blue Fast 800 ones which I love. I can’t seem to see a new one online but think it was mentioned on this thread before I wandered off.

H0twaterbottle · 19/12/2021 09:28

Welcome back @LotsOfTrees!

That's a fantastic loss- so impressed!

No idea on the new cookbook I have to confess.

Gosh it is tricky sticking to this this time of year... have you any tips?

LotsOfTrees · 19/12/2021 09:55

Thanks @H0twaterbottle! It’s an unusual time to get re-started and I don’t recommend it (!) but what has helped is having all our Christmas plans torpedoed by Covid with a household member testing positive! I find socialising the hardest thing diet-wise and then it’s just a slippery slope for me of thinking I might as well continue to indulge at home too! I am going to relax on Christmas Day and maybe Boxing Day but actually I think it’s good for me mentally to get ahead and start the NY having already started to lose again - so I might as well continue to lose rather than splurge into the NY. I have another 2 stone to lose so a fair way to go still.

H0twaterbottle · 19/12/2021 22:34

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that. I think I'd go the other way and eat everything if we had to stay home with covid Confused. Hopefully they are feeling ok too

Socialising is hard but I also find myself reaching for mince pies and chocolate and just grazing on empty calories really. I'm determined to try and keep to a stable weight over the Christmas period, at least if I can stay the same that will be a win. Posting on here gives me some level of accountability.

Just hard because lots of festive activities seem to involve indulgent food!!

LotsOfTrees · 24/12/2021 08:02

Thanks @H0twaterbottle, we’re all well and out of self-isolation now. I’ve managed to lose 6.5lbs in two weeks with a couple of days off and feel better going in to Christmas now.

StoopitAutocarrot · 29/12/2021 07:51

Joining in again, though I still have a few Christmas treats to get rid of. So this week I'm doing 5:2 as a gentle reintroduction. Will use the weekend to rationalise the store cupboards, and then into January.

PhoenixMama · 29/12/2021 18:17

Hey everyone - coming back to start getting my head on straight before getting back to it in January. I've eaten so awfully for the last 5 months it's literally shocked me (Christmas & having to isolate making it infinitely worse). I'm scared to get in the scales but I reckon I've gained around 2 stone in hand a year (all stress & work related) and I'm making myself the priority next year starting with this.

I've done it once & I know I can do it again but I also know how much planning it takes so not taking it lightly.

Hope you're all well! Hoping the thread grows a bit next month so we can support each other & stay on track xx

yumyumpoppycat · 31/12/2021 10:17

Hi can I join back in too. I am aiming for at least one strict week to get started. Have just skimmed the new keto book 4.99 on kindle. It's definitely not a must buy for anyone in the swing of it at the moment but I have found it a good refresh. One thing is I feel like is there is some cut and pasting from previous books - do we really need the Banting story again! Is it even really that helpful for newbies to low carb? It makes me glaze over and miss new bits and helpful info. I found the section on ultra processed food the most interesting- had seen this info before but the way it was explained did make something click in my brain that this should be a bigger focus for me. The recipes started off quite good but then went a bit weird - not sure there are many I will do. Happy to type up a list if anyone wants? One thing that has left me a bit puzzled is that protein is emphasised as important but macros are kept at 20% max for protein even on 800 cals which mm is saying is lower than we need.

WildePozy · 01/01/2022 23:19

Happy New Year everyone!
How is everyone feeling going into it, a fresh start?
I’ve gained about 4-5lbs over the Christmas week, mostly alcohol, so i’m so ready to get back to it.
Food shop is ordered for tomorrow, ready to delve straight back in.

PhoenixMama · 02/01/2022 10:23

Morning all! Well I finally stepped on the scale yesterday and I'm up a solid 20lbs from the summer and 30lbs from my lowest 3 years ago. The interesting thing is that I've basically gained 1lb a week since my life blew up in July (dd hospitalised, lost the house we were moving into, loads of work stress & lost 2 employees at our busiest time) - so it's made me realised as much as I want to lose weight what I really need to do is stop that weekly gaining!

Had my last drink for a while last night. I'm giving myself 1 special occaision a month to drink at (pre-scheduled birthdays, etc) and I'm planning on doing Fast800 for 10 - 12 weeks. Main goals for January are to track my food, plan my meals in advance and do Yoga With Adrienne 30 Days of Yoga every day. I know from before I can't do the 800 cals in the beginning with harder core exercise (I just either get too hungry or too faint) so I'm going to start with the yoga and then add more in each month till I feel more active.

I was thinking about buying the keto book @yumyumpoppycat but it doesn't sound like it's worth it? Although I definitely need the chapter on processed food because that's been the biggest change over the last 5 months! Also what do you mean the recipes get weird Shock?

How's everyone else getting on? Anyone else started yet? x

H0twaterbottle · 02/01/2022 10:43

Happy new year all!

I am back and planning to start on Tuesday (back to work!). I think goals are to keep low carbing, even leaving aside the 800 calories I feel so much more satisfied eating less bread etc, I have realised that once I start I really find it hard to stop. I'm basically 6lbs up but I'm hoping that a lot of that is temporary. Would love to lose a stone.

LotsOfTrees · 02/01/2022 10:49

New year check in here too. I’ve also (re)gained over Christmas but I’m hoping some of that is temporary too.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/01/2022 13:24

@PhoenixMama actually I looked again and actually the recipes aren't so bad there are only one or two recipes that are a bit suspect - nothing very new though. The processed food section is only a couple of pages (maybe that will be expanded in the next book Wink) I have downloaded loads of books on the kindle app in the past and once or twice I have decided a book is a bad purchase for whatever reason then returned it with no issues, so maybe that's an option if you are on the fence? I am glad I got it on the kindle app rather than a physical copy as I probably won't re read too much but there is enough useful info that I won't be returning it. With the original bsd book I ended up getting both kindle and print copies because I found it so useful!

Good luck to everyone getting started! My day 1 went ok but I am sooo tired!

Cailleach1 · 02/01/2022 23:04

Just bookmarking.

LotsOfTrees · 03/01/2022 08:03

New Year re-start take two for me today. Failed miserably yesterday Blush

Indoctro · 03/01/2022 08:56

Hello I'm new to this I started yesterday and I'm vegetarian

14st 10lb and 5ft 10

Yesterday I had 816 cals so Kim pleased with that and 2.5lb down today

I know it's not true weight loss but it's has certainly encouraged me

Breakfast this morning was 155 cals and 15 protein

Giant mushroom with a egg cracked in it and sprinkle of cheese and baked in oven

We are going to MacDonald for dinner which is a pain but I've looked and I've found a meal for 327 cals

Veggie fingers with salad and a Coke Zero so at least I won't feel left out but I know it's not ideal

Hoping to lose 3 stone

Only issue I have is running, although I'm overweight I run loads 25-30 miles a week so I'm wondering how it's going to effect that but just going to see how I get on.

PhoenixMama · 03/01/2022 09:31

Welcome @Indoctro! Good starting day!

I'm down 4lbs so that's good, even though it's water weight it never ceases to amaze me how quickly the bloating goes down when I don't eat crap.

Yesterday I was 816 which I'm happy with. Not sure what's for dinner today and then I'm going to get some Cook meals for 1 for lunches so I don't need to think about 1 meal.

Good luck today everyone!

Cafog · 03/01/2022 11:48

Hi everyone, joining in too please. Have weighed in at my heaviest ever today, 13st 9 and I'm only 5'3. An 11lb gain over Christmas. I lost 2 stone using this method over 12 weeks at the end of 2020 and have slowly gained it all back over 2021. Really looking forward to getting started today, starting with 2 lovely poached eggs and smokes bacon now at 12, fish and veg for dinner, with some teas and semi skimmed milk. Looking forward to over coming the next few days and that fab feeling when the weight starts to drop. Good luck everyone!

yumyumpoppycat · 03/01/2022 15:42

Welcome @Cafog we are v similar sizewise!

Well done on losses @PhoenixMama and @Indoctro

@LotsOfTrees I had a false start too think all the extra Christmas food around is to blame!

Finding day 3 a little hard but 4lb down which is a good incentive. I made some flaxseed bread - it's not super delicious but helps me as I am not great at planning meals ahead.

Hope all doing ok today!

Indoctro · 03/01/2022 17:49

That's me done for day two I finished on 862

I realised because I'm vegetarian I should have 900 cals something to do with being able to get enough protein

I had Cajun chickpeas and tofu cooked with veg for tea.

I feel hungry today but I'm managing to ignore it

Indoctro · 03/01/2022 17:50

@yumyumpoppycat

What's flaxseed bread

I make my own bread normally and I have flaxseeds.

How do you make it

Thanks

yumyumpoppycat · 03/01/2022 20:06

@Indoctro www.thelondoner.me/2014/03/mums-low-carb-bread.html I saw this recipe on another thread. I made half the amount. I didn't have almonds so I replaced with extra flax, a spoon of peanut butter and a spoon of oats. It is pretty high in calories but was easy to make.

Cafog · 03/01/2022 20:55

Thanks @yumyumpoppycat. Finished today on 801 and macros were bang on. Could have drank more water. Storecupboard bean soup from the blue book bubbling away for lunch tomorrow. Back to work so hopefully will keep my mind off things!

Indoctro · 03/01/2022 21:41

@yumyumpoppycat I will try it
