H1Drangea well done for weighing and organising a shopping list. I think not having rubbish in the house is key. I am very envious of your waist measurement, we are a similar height, I am a few lbs lighter but my waist (narrowest part not belly button) measurement is 37”. At least you aren’t carrying your weight in the most dangerous area for strokes etc. Looking on the bright side. Do you have a goal weight or jeans you want to fit into?

H1Drangea · 28/06/2021 15:01

@BlueFishSwims my waist is ok , I have a bum and thigh problem ( which is why I didn’t measure my hips ! )
I’d like to be 10 stone something , even 10st 13 would be good , then I can have a think and a look and see where I go from there

yumyumpoppycat · 28/06/2021 16:13

Hi new starters!!

I think the fast800 clarifies and irons out some of the finer details that are missing from the blood sugar diet. It also places grater emphasis on including an element of fasting. I also think a difference is that it is to appeal to a wider audience rather than those who are at risk of or are already experiencing type 2 diabetes. I might be wrong though! It's worth getting the fast 800 book as a refresher.

Kayemm · 29/06/2021 11:06

Hi all

Another newbie here, starting today as we got back form a weekend away yesterday and it's now 8 weeks off our next holiday.

I've been dignosed diabetic and really need to do something; they are holding off on the medication to give me chance to reverse it by diet .

Starting stats are awful :-( I'm 5 ft 5

Weight 198.2 lbs
Waist 44
Hips 45

I'm going to struggle with no alcohol for 8 weeks but dh is also attempting to give up for the next 8 weeks as we both acknowledge that we were drinking far too much, he's also doing 5:2 as his BMI was 26.5 ( I wish!) and he is th heaviest he has ever been - still lighter than me though!

I've got the blue book and have sent for the red, a question I'd like to ask is how do you know which vegetables to count and which not to?

I'm planning an omlette for lunch with spinach and tomatoes, what do I count?

Also who is doing the recommneded exercise? I tend to get 10,000 steps in most days but that isn't the type of thing that he recommends.

Thanks. :-)

BlueFishSwims · 29/06/2021 13:24

Hi Kayemm, I am new too. Your lunch sounds great. Spinach and all leafy green veg are perfect, nutritious but low carb, tomatoes are fine too but are higher carbs, eggs are good.

The higher carb veg to avoid are potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onions. There are probably more, if you google you should find a picture of all the low carb veg or alternatively all the high carb veg to avoid.

I am not a great example of exercise as I just walk fast for half an hour to 45 minutes most days, I need to do more.

vestastilly · 29/06/2021 14:12

@Kayemm welcome. I am now on week 4 of Fast 800 and love it! I have lost quite a lot of weight however you will need to be prepared for hunger pangs at first and my end of day treat is now sparkling water! To put things in perspective an on plan tomato omelette will be 3 cherry tomatoes and 2 eggs ( you will need a small frying pan). I have all 3 recipe books and find them all useful and each of them has plenty of recipes. Enjoy x

H1Drangea · 30/06/2021 07:34

Day 3 for me today , we had the chicken chorizo and canellini bean casserole last night , it was really good , tasty and very filling
Struggling a bit to keep to 800 calls , I was starving hungry by 4-30 pm yesterday , and had a chunk of cheese , so I think I’ll gradually cut down further . I’m on MFP amd will stick to 1000 this week , and 900 next week and so on ( seeing as I’ve cut out bread , potatoes , pasta , biscuits etc I think I’ll still see a loss )
Aubergine lasagne tonight ✅
Hallo to @Kayemm and @cmj7397 last get this first week done

cmj7397 · 30/06/2021 09:47

the casserole sounds delicious! day 3 and i’m surprised how easy i have found it so far! hopefully i’ll be able to keep it up!

Kayemm · 30/06/2021 12:50

Day one went well. Omelette for lunch and aubergine parmigiana for dinner. Also had a lovely latte mid afternoon. 17 calories to spare!

The red book arrived and looks fabulous. Plenty of good vegetarian recipes to keep us going.

vestastilly · 30/06/2021 18:42

DH birthday tomorrow so have just made the beetroot brownies - absolutely lush! Ate mine warm from the oven and have hidden the rest. Can wait for everyone else to try them but I am keeping the ingredients secret! I will have to change my top though as the mixture was a little stiff and I now look like sweeney tods wife!

That made me laugh, vestastilly! Grin I haven't tried any of the yummy recipes yet. I broke out last Sunday and had a small bowl of strawberries and cream. It felt very decadent.

Hope you enjoy DH's birthday tomorrow!

Welcome @Kayemm!

Today I've been on track Halo with breakfast being chocolate granola from the book, lunch was the strawberry smoothie, and dinner was enchiladas made with vegetable wraps from Coop.

But YESTERDAY BlushBlushBlush it was day one of my period and I just lost control. I couldn't stop eating chocolate and sweet things. I'm due to move onto phase 2 on Saturday as I'll finish the first 12 weeks, but I know I need to keep an eye on my diet to make sure I don't undo my hard work!

Hi all. I'm about a week in and have lost 5lbs. I'm doing 18:6 plus 800 cals. I set an initial target of two weeks for this phase but actually I'm going to keep it going for another few as a great lock start.

So far I'm doing 2 x 400 cal meals. I do ok til dinner time then when I eat I just want more. Any tips for rejigging or building in a snack perhaps?

Also I bought the fast 800 diet book itself but no cook books. Any recommendations?

Loving seeing all the inspiration on the thread. Smile

Kayemm · 30/06/2021 22:32

@Tinselandlights - veggie wraps???.Shock where in the co op are they?

H1Drangea · 01/07/2021 07:10

Day 4 , and I don’t think I’ve managed to stick to 800 calories once (900 to 1100 according to MFP )
3 lb off !
I’m so pleased !

I made the skinny aubergine lasagne last night , changed the recipe slightly ( added some cream to make the sauce ) and it was delicious , I was starving so had 2 portions , DH ate some , but had to have some of DDs proper lasagne too ( men ! ) he needs starchy carbs

Thursday is normally the start of the weekend and we’re allowed to open a bottle of wine , so that will be a challenge
I’ve not bought any , so that should make things easier 👍

Good for you on nearly reaching the twelve-week mark!

Do you have the recipe books that go with the plan? They are very useful and the food is tasty.

I did three small meals in the first three weeks and hot/cold drinks in between. I managed on it. At first I was very hungry in the run up to a meal, then I adapted. However, I have to say that I didn't count calories, just used the books as a guide for portion sizes. I've done a month now and I've reached my target of twelve pounds.

JaquelineBean · 01/07/2021 09:19

oops, this thread dropped off my radar so I'm just place marking.

LotsOfTrees · 01/07/2021 12:09

Hi @Kayemm and @headintheproverbial... welcome! I’d recommend the cookbooks. I’ve used them daily and am taking photos of my favourite recipes with us on holiday.

It’s ONE DAY MORE for me as I have my 12 week final strict Fast 800 weigh in tomorrow. It’s not the end but I feel happy with having started 12 weeks ago and looking forward to the new 5:2.

MercedesBenz · 01/07/2021 12:36

Have a lovely holiday @LotsOfTrees

BlueFishSwims · 01/07/2021 13:36

Hi everyone, it’s July, can you believe it. LotsofTrees hats off to you doing 12 weeks, hope you have a good weigh in tomorrow.

Doing ok here. Got tripped up by a box of dark Ryvita, plan was to eat two with goats cheese as my emergency treat (I don’t have a sweet tooth). Turns out I can’t stop eating them. There all gone now and I won’t buy them again.

Lunch today is leaves, chargrilled artichoke, peppers and radishes.

Dinner will be from the freezer, plumber in kitchen today so not sure what it will be.

I splurged in Holland and B and bought B vitamins, magnesium and a stop hair thinning vitamin. Excited about this as I never take vitamins. My energy levels have been low for months and my joints ache on and off (menopause nothing to do with Fast800). I am going to give it 3 months of trying to improve things myself through nutrition etc. If I don’t feel I’ve cracked it by 1st October then I will see GP and get bloods checked (thyroid?) and discuss HRT. I don’t like taking meds and can go a decade without seeing the Dr but I need more energy. That’s the plan.

Movealongmovealong · 01/07/2021 18:56

I forgot to report my Monday weigh in.. 197 LB that's 11 pounds in three weeks without being hungry ! Love it .

MercedesBenz · 01/07/2021 19:14

Well done @Movealongmovealong
That’s a great loss !

LotsOfTrees · 01/07/2021 21:12

Great loss @Movealongmovealong! Hope the vitamins give you more energy @BlueFishSwims!
