Hey gang!

@Forfecksake17 I think you are really being too hard on yourself/expecting results too quickly! It's probably going to take a couple of weeks to hit 9st - if you expect it too quickly and don't get it you're going to get discouraged and end up giving up/cheating because you'll feel like it's not working when it actually is!

Can you have the tonic without the gin this weekend? Alcohol always sets me back with the water retention, but also because I know I end up making bad choices when I drink!!!

@Spotsandstars So you'd want your protein to be higher than your fat for sure. But also be careful going with too little carbs over the long run as that also puts your body into panic mode and it can slow your weight loss down. You need some carbs for your body to run efficiently - you just want to make sure its less than usual. Everybody has a perfect percentage ratio that works for them so sometimes playing around with the ratio can help.

For those looking for good yoga I 100% recommend Yoga With Adriene whether you're new to yoga or a regular user - her youtube channel has loads of options.

Someone asked about sleeping and I did struggle for the first couple of weeks and then I slept great. Struggling a lot right now but I think that's because I'm on my screen so much continuously - for work or pleasure and often up until bed time. Oh for some sort of balance.

SO glad half term is here, hoping it brings some calm to our lives!

Spotsandstars · 12/02/2021 16:23

So a normal day for me is
Lunch - salad leaves, chicken, ratatouille
Dinner - a fast 800 recipe like the turkey fajitas or salmon or something but I just have lettuce or egg for the wraps or cauli rice
Couple of teas in the day so add in milk
If I have enough calories in the eve I have full fat Greek yoghurt with some blueberries and cinnamon.

How does this compare with others?

shreddergodo · 12/02/2021 17:46

Yes! Interested to hear what people have been eating recently

Lunch- large salad with lots of diff veg + vegan protein either lentils or tofu or other faux meat though most of them
Are crammed with carbs

Dinner- veggie and bean soup// or stir fry with tofu // vegan sausages and salad // if I’m not hungry I’ll have a protein shake to get protein In, this has only happened twice, but I’ve , a couple of times, had a weird food aversion where I feel sick at the thought. 🤷‍♀️

Squaretoe · 12/02/2021 18:41

Watching for ideas/inspiration!

L: tuna/egg/lettuce/cucumber, or chicken/homemade coleslaw/lettuce, or omelette

D: F800 chicken tex mex bowl, or mackerel and green veg, or chicken/green veg/gravy Blush, or the other day I had tuna with loads of finely chopped cabbage and grated cheese, it almost tasted like a tuna pasta bake! 😂

I’m weirdly enjoying the fasting, I’m averaging about 19:5 at the moment and I quite like seeing how long I can hold out 😂

Forfecksake17 · 12/02/2021 19:11

I’m also very interested to hear what others are eating.
I’ve had a strange ‘food’ day today
L= 2 hard boiled eggs
Avocado and handful of flaked almonds
Dinner = I just didn’t fancy a ‘dinner’ so had
Babybel light
Packet of squeaky bean faux pastrami
Greek yoghurt and some berries
I’m trying to stick to eating between 1-7pm then fast.
@PhoenixMama - think you are right tonic without the gin is the best option! Maybe In a few weeks I’ll treat myself to a gin but probably bit soon just now.
Husband not helping, he has just opened a bottle of my favourite red wine 😤

Forfecksake17 · 12/02/2021 19:13

Meant to ask @shreddergodo what brand of veggie sausages do you tend to eat ?

Spotsandstars · 12/02/2021 19:36

Ok regarding macros I was looking at wrong part in mfp! So actually more like 35g on carbs!

Squirrelblanket · 12/02/2021 19:38

I had a couple of tonics with no gin tonight. I put them in a nice glass with lime and ice so it feels a bit more special.

L: Courgette carbonara (courgette ribbons, ham, garlic, soft cheese)
D: Chicken thighs in char Sui marinade with Chinese greens

funtimefrank · 12/02/2021 22:30

@Forfecksake17 appreciate you didn't ask me but I go for cauldron Lincolnshire sausages which I think are around 6g of carbs.

Forfecksake17 · 13/02/2021 09:00

@funtimefrank that’s great thanks, so many different veggie sausages now so thought i would ask on here rather than spend 40 mins in the veggie aisle interrogating the nutrition label on them all!
Had another rubbish sleep ☹️ Think I am going to have to dig deep for motivation to do my HIIT today!
Saturday nite is generally always homemade pizza nite in our house so I am going to attempt to make a cauliflower base for myself so I don’t feel too left out ( pizza is generally accompanied by red wine and then crisps watching tv 😬)

funtimefrank · 13/02/2021 11:22

So after all my whinging earlier this week I lost 2.5 lbs. I did drink a lot of water this week so I think that helped but I also had a bad day where I had a bit of pizza and some chocolate. So am about 4lbs away from where I am going to swap to 5:2. If I could do that by the end of feb I'd be so chuffed.

Just been into town and got a couple of packets of konjac rice/noodles (I find these a lifesaver when I want a bulky side but keep them to once a week) and whilst in H&B they had small bottles of seedlip gin reduced. I love gin but am a light drinker and have been totally avoiding.

Been curious about this stuff for a while but it's expensive. I also didn't realise it's sugar/carb/cals free. So I treated myself to a bottle for a mighty £2.50 and am looking forward to a 'gin and tonic' with masked singer.

@Forfecksake17, I feel your takeaway pain. I make myself fake ones. So I have mastered a prawn and water chestnut recipe for Chinese night, I had an excellent fake Indian yesterday - prawn saag and Dahl. This is where I love the fake rice or cauliflower rice.

Pizza night is the hardest but last week I did a pizza omelette which was lovely. It's not the same obvs and to keep within calories i have to be a bit stingy with toppings but again it scratches an itch.

PhoenixMama · 13/02/2021 13:32

Great loss @funtimefrank- well done!

With meals I generally have 2 eggs around 10am, then lunch will be soup or gyoza or veggie sausages (non-running days) on running days I'll have a combo of the above or a COOK meal for 1 (yellow thai prawns, Singapore noodles, chorizo & lentils, chicken laksa, prawn kerala - all portion based and under 300 cals).

Dinners I always cook from scratch from either the Fast 800 or BSD cookbook: this week was chicken korma, pork pepper stirfry, lamb saag, and tonight is the crispy duck with green pancakes.

I do a cheats pizza on Friday - we make our own using tortillas as bases (hate the cauliflower bases) - everyone gets to personalise and it comes in around 450 cals so usually I just have my eggs at lunchtime instead to make room for it!. I tried to go without but both DD and I really missed it!

Wasn't sure if I was going to run today as it's so cold but I really feel like I need to get back into the routine. I know what I'm like if I don't do things it just slips away and I was so proud of where I was I've decided that after I drop dd off for her socially distanced walk I'm going to run home. Fully prepared for it to be awful but I think better to do it than not!

shreddergodo · 13/02/2021 14:10

@Forfecksake17 I get the Linda McCartney vegetarian ones, and conveniently frozen! My fave are the Linda McCartney Lincolnshire ones, but they are quite high carb.

Woke up feeling a bit crap again today, broke my fast early (10am instead of 12noon, couldn't face black coffee). Struggling a bit atm to be honest, really want to see it through to the end of the month though.
Trying to find some good recipes online that are exciting and low calories/high protein. I want to get back to it properly tomorrow.

What do you guys have when you can't face black coffee/tea in the mornings pre break-fast?
I thought that perhaps I would stop eating earlier instead, so give myself 10am-6pm for example (currently do 12noon to 8pm as often, with toddler etc I don't get to finish my dinner until about an hour after it's been made. What is everyone else's window?

Also I have a question- who has transitioned to the 5:2 - how did you do it (what were your fast days like) and did it work to maintain/lose a little bit slower?

Forfecksake17 · 13/02/2021 14:18

I hadn’t thought of omelette or tortilla pizza!! Just searched online and they both look good options......... that’s me sorted for the next 3 Saturday pizza nites!
@funtimefrank I am Intrigued to hear how the seedlip gin is, I would LOVE to find a good alternative for a Saturday nite to keep me on the straight and narrow.
I am going to do tonic water with ice and maybe a tiny little bit of mixed berries tonite.
@PhoenixMama good for you on the running plan, i am sure the thought of it will be worse than actually doing it and you will feel so good about yourself once it’s done.
I really had to have a word with myself to do my HIIT but it’s done now and I honestly feel sooooo much better for it! ( feel like I’ve earned my cauliflower pizza 😂)
Weighed myself this morning and another one pound ( and a 1/4 🤷🏻‍♀️) off, I am really hoping to start week two 7lbs down from starting point in week one 🤞🤞

Forfecksake17 · 13/02/2021 14:56

@shreddergodo must have cross posted earlier. Thanks for the veggie sausage recommendation, I had bought Linda McCartney ones ( not frozen though) and they were nice, I’ll check out freezer section when I’m at shops,
I am trying to stick to 1-7pm eating window but tbh if I am making my daughter lunch at 12:15-12:30 then I just have mine too. I am more strict about making sure my cut off point is 7pm. I remember the toddler days well and how difficult it is to feed yourself and them!
In the mornings I tend to drink lots of sparkling water, I feel like the ‘bubbles’ fill me up! If it’s cold and I’m struggling with water I’ve been drinking green tea/ lemon and ginger tea. I am not actually sure if the lemon and ginger tea is ‘cheating’!?🤔

PhoenixMama · 13/02/2021 16:48

So when I went for my run my calf muscle 'popped' and now I'm in pain & can't run.

Just had a little cry about how shit this week has been. Nothing has worked or gone to plan, work has been crazy, homeschooling a fight, I've really struggled to stay on plan, I'm still plateaued for almost 2 weeks! I've been so cold & now the running that helped keep me sane has been taken away too! I just feel like everything I do is wrong. Properly fed up now.

Forfecksake17 · 13/02/2021 17:23

Aww @PhoenixMama sending big hugs ☹️
Hopefully the calf might not be too serious, maybe just a strain? Try the RICE- rest/ ice/compression/ elevation tonite and tomorrow and maybe with a couple of days rest it might be much better? Could you focus on your yoga and maybe some HIIT moves that don’t involve explosive leg moves to keep you feeling in the exercise zone until it’s healed?
I know exactly what you mean about homeschooling/ work etc and trying to focus on eating properly too. It’s a LOT to be dealing with.
Maybe allow yourself a tiny little indulgence tonite and just write the rest of this week off and hopefully next week is a much better week! If nothing else at least there will be no homeschooling to worry about 😘

Squaretoe · 13/02/2021 18:38

@PhoenixMama that sounds sore! Sorry you’re having a hard time, just do what you can food wise, if you need to relax the diet a bit, do it!

I just had a crap dinner - Heck vegan chipolatas. Tasted so processed and I was actually craving veg afterwards Confused. I get so annoyed when I “waste” a mealtime on horrible food! I’ve stayed the same weight for the last 3 days, wondering whether to stop daily weighing and switch to weekly (currently day 13).

Squirrelblanket · 13/02/2021 19:06

@PhoenixMama I have tried the cauliflower pizza base and was disappointed too. Grin I hope you have a much better week this week and feel a bit brighter.

L: Eggs in purgatory (from The Sopranos cookbook 😂)
D: Lamb saag with cauli rice and green beans

Snacks: crisps, wine 😳

funtimefrank · 13/02/2021 20:04

Seedlip - bit shit really and certainly not worth 22 quid a bottle

@PhoenixMama sorry the well has been so shit. Do take care in that calf - rest it well. It will get better soon petal.

Forfecksake17 · 14/02/2021 09:02

Morning
@funtimefrank that’s a shame that the seedlip gin wasn’t very good ☹️ At least you hadn’t bought a bottle at full price.
I stuck to slimline tonic and ice and actually I really enjoyed it and wasn’t remotely tempted by the red wine! I made my cauliflower base pizza and it was lovely! I decided not to weigh everything or worry too much about counting everything- I reasoned that I was making good choices vs what I would normally have. I put lots of seasoning and mozzarella and Parmesan in the cauliflower mixture and honestly it was really tasty.

shreddergodo · 14/02/2021 09:23

Oh @PhoenixMama I really feel for you, I felt exactly that way on Friday, so bl**dy fed up! Poor consolation but you could join me on 'injured leg' HIIT this week? I'm starting with MADFIT (on YouTube) low impact workout, looking forward to it actually! I think she's gorgeous!

@Forfecksake17 I concur, I'd go for kombucha any day, and dr Mosley is all about the good fermented foods! I don't think tea is cheating! if it's calorie free and sweetener free I think it's a go!

@Squaretoe I totally get what you mean Smile, I absolutely HATE 'wasting' a meal. I do feel like I'm getting more mindful of what I like and how much I enjoy food- and what I think is pretty mediocre.

I've been thinking of a cheat easter treat and one part of me things 'order everything' but actually the thought of the kind of excess I would indulge in before is kind o gone.. well the though isn't but the impetus is!

Day 14- weigh in at 10 st 2.2
Not so bad, another pound down and I've been being a bit random tbh with my calories. I'll try to weigh in another day this week, maybe Wednesday, as I know week 3 is usually a plateau week and I don't want to get my hopes up if it's not happening.

Hoping that now the weather is getting a bit less crazy I can get out and walk and want to workout once a day for 30 mins (probably during nap time). I feel motivated for this week, to get back on top of it and work it a bit better- If I'm able to stay on it I'll be at my first target weight by next weekend, 10 stone, and from there... 9 stone bracket omg!

PhoenixMama · 14/02/2021 10:36

Morning all!

Thanks for all your kind words. I'm still feeling battered this morning (emotionally & physically) but figure if I get back to it tomorrow then at least I'm moving in the right direction.

I really want to get back to my lowest point before, which as of my plateau this week is only 3lbs away. If I could do that by the end of the month that would be great then can look at March as a way to lose the final 5lbs (or at least get close to it) then when life starts to get brighter (and hopefully we'll be able to go out again) in April I'll feel more confident and can move to 2:5 or something. I think last time I moved to 5:2 far too quickly and undid some of my good work which was demoralising. I really didn't lose anything on 5:2 and I want to make sure I'm still losing a bit when I transition.

@shreddergodo I love the idea of joining you. I did try Madfit the other day but it was sooooooo coordinated I couldn't do some of the moves Blush I might try a different one - do you want to post a link to the one you're doing.

I did manage yoga this morning and my calf wasn't too bad, hopefully see a local physio tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a good day! Oh and happy Valentines!

shreddergodo · 14/02/2021 19:26

@PhoenixMama Sorry you'll still feeling grubby but I think you're totally right, getting back 'on it' next week is a really positive step forward.
Here's the link for the workout I did:

I know what you mean I found it tough to get to grips with the moves at first but I got the gist of it and figure if I do something similar each day I'll end up getting better at it!

Here's to a better week than last guys!!! Good luck for your Monday starts!

texican · 14/02/2021 21:44

Even the screenshot of that video makes me nervous!!!! I did a great 6 months doing the 30day shred level 2 but since then I've become completely lax and unfit. Well done you guys getting exercise, or even injured by exercise - at least you're trying! At the moment I'm feeling a walk is exercise even though I know myself that it really isn't and I'm being a bit pathetic. A project for the warmer weather and lighter mornings I feel!

I've had the weekend completely off. We've had some lovely food (basically all on plan except pitta bread!) and am off tomorrow too as off work and want to mark the difference. Then back on it (and no alcohol!) til at least Thursday, maybe Friday. I've always intended to have half term 'off' but don't want it to be completely off everything!

I'm sorry things are still shitty @PhoenixMama and hope everyone else has had a decent rest this weekend, one way or another. If we can't be kind to ourselves we'll just have to be kind to each other and share it around Smile
