Cross posted @PhoenixMama. Sorry yesterday was hard, bloody hormones. Amazing running achievement! It's so empowering to be able to run when you've not before. I still remember the feeling when I reached 5k - I did a little dance in the street while running!!! Since then I've let it slip though so will try and start again when the days get a bit longer/brighter.

shreddergodo · 07/02/2021 13:07

Missing running so much, glad people have been out this weekend. It’s FREEZING here (No east) and snowing a little bit. My knee feels ok today so I went for a tiny walk with DC and dog, was nice. Thanks for the carb flu tips - as you said I was feeling smug as until today where I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.

Good plan to protein load mornings, it’s like I need a proper plan . I don eat eggs or meat so... gonna have to try something appealing and easy. I think I’ve also been going over my carbs this week pretty consistently on 50-80g so I need to focus more on that next week. TBF I think my loss is really good but because so many people have lost 7kg in the first week makes me feel a bit disappointed though obviously I’m trying to lose around 10% of my body weight whilst other trying to lose much more than that (go you!!!!).

Squirrelblanket · 07/02/2021 15:34

Well done on the running!

I want to start running again but the weather has been so awful. I figure I will leave it a couple of weeks which I hope also means I'll be a bit more used to the diet and over any carb flu/energy problems. At the moment I'm just trying to make sure I get a daily walk in.

Squirrelblanket · 08/02/2021 08:31

First official weigh in today, 4kg down! Very happy with that. If only it could be that much every week. 😂

We had the roast garlic and lemon chicken thighs from the original recipe book last night, they were delicious! Looking forward to trying a few new recipes this week again too.

I've decided to challenge myself to getting 10k steps every day this week.

Hope everyone has a good Monday and a good week!

Squaretoe · 08/02/2021 08:47

Amazing well done @Squirrelblanket! I put on 0.5lbs overnight so that’s 7lbs off since last Monday. Pleased with that!

shreddergodo · 08/02/2021 09:27

Day 8 - Start of week 2 - 10 st 4 lbs this morning. I definitely think weighing every day might not be for me as I think the small fluctuations do effect my mood. I weigh in again next Monday. I'm pleased with that and really chuffed I've made it all week.

Salt helped a lot thank you to whoever suggested that re headaches... I had a lovely salty salad. Funnily, I used to feel puffed up and gross after salt but not right now- wonder why? no carbs? it's kind of a revelation.
Need to plan my meals today, have NOT, and want to get my protein levels up this week and carbs down, was avergaing 50-80g carbs last week so need to be more careful.

Someone on BSD forum suggested leak spaghetti- sounds really nice actually, might make a big pasta sauce, pasta for the bairn and DH and leeks for me! will make some plans and head out to the shops.

NSV - Bag of amazing looking pastries in the reduced aisle, an old favourite of mine, 10p... DIDN"T have them. Picked them up, thought about getting them for 'after' but didn't. Also there's ice cream in the fridge from over the weekend having DC and I haven't touched it :) :) :)

@Squirrelblanket Well done!

PhoenixMama · 08/02/2021 09:45

Well done @Squirrelblanket! I also love the roast garlic & lemon chicken. And the duck lettuce wraps are to die for!

@shreddergodo Well done for avoiding the pastries! That's brilliant and shows how much your brain is changing!

I'm up 1lb today but also really bloated. After my really tough day on Saturday I realised I'm due on on Thursday and that always screws with both my weight and measurements. I was actually pretty good on the weekend so a bit annoyed there's no losses but I'm still not sure about my moody scale. Thinking I might order a new one from Amazon and compare them and if it is the same, then send the new one back? Bit naughty but it's driving me nuts lol!

BoozeHound · 08/02/2021 10:48

I thought I’d come over from the vegan thread. I started at 12 stone 8 and have lost 4lbs since last Wednesday, pretty flabbergasted! Am aiming to keep going until I’m around 11 and a half stone which is the top of healthy BMI for me, will then carry on a bit more slowly, maybe 5:2 or something. I’m a bit concerned with how obsessed with food this way of eating is making me so not sure It would be healthy to continue for the full 12 weeks for me! I’m really like the general high protein, low carb idea but don’t want to give it too much brain space.

Hi @shreddergodo well done on your loss! Hello to everyone else, I haven’t caught up properly but will do now.

Forfecksake17 · 08/02/2021 11:12

Hi ladies,
Can I join please, have spent literally ALL weekend reading this thread right from the beginning!
I need to start actually doing something- up until lockdown I have always been around 8st 4-6lbs without any real exercise etc but clearly I have used the opportunity of being in pretty much control stand hibernation from the world for last 10 months as an excuse to just absolutely abuse my poor body and eat/ drink RIDICULOUSLY!! Finally stepped on the scales today and I am 10st 13lbs Sad
Can’t actually believe I have managed to do so much damage to myself! Why didn’t I stop when I couldn’t fit in my ‘fat jeans’ anymore Confused
Anyway today is rock bottom so here I am!!
Only thing is I am vegetarian but don’t want to exist only on salad and veg so wondering if any of you lovely ladies know of any ‘meat alternative’ products which fit the bill in terms of calorie/carb content?
I’ve loved reading all your posts, everyone seems so supportive of everyone on good days and bad!!

Forfecksake17 · 08/02/2021 11:13
  • constant not control stand hibernation!!
Squirrelblanket · 08/02/2021 12:15

@shreddergodo Leeks are good for a low carb lasagne too!

@Forfecksake17 Welcome! Smile

Thanks everyone.

Forfecksake17 · 08/02/2021 19:03

@Squirrelblanket - thanks for the welcome 😘

I have put my lunch and dinner into my MFP and clearly I am way out on my choices in terms of carbs - I have had 751 cals but 49g carbs 😬
Lunch- babybel light,
Avocado ( mashed up with chilli)
4 slices of quorn chicken slices
Dinner- 150g quorn mince stuffed in a red

Pepper. Added some mushrooms, fresh chilli and pasta sauce to the mince to make a kind of spicy mince.

Not feeling hungry at all at the moment, although I am missing the freedom of just being able to have a glass of wine to sit with- trying to remind myself that those glasses of wine are part of the reason why I am now here!!
Hope everyone else has had a good day so far! 🙂

texican · 09/02/2021 07:06

Morning everyone!

Welcome @BoozeHound and @Forfecksake17. This is a lovely friendly space where you can share (all types of) downs as well as the ups 😊

I drank lots yesterday which I think helped to get me to my new low on the scale (by 2oz but I'm taking that, obvs!). My usual weekend bloat hasn't been so bad this weekend despite me having.....crisps. First proper crisps since Christmas (quavers last weekend don't count!) and enjoyed them but was worried about scale impact. Seems like there hasn't been any though, bodies are weird. I did buy some 'Cheesies' though from Amazon - they're literally just popped cheese so no carbs but nice and crunchy. I realise I was missing the crunch texture more than the crisps themselves. They get a bit sickly towards the end of the bag but I enjoyed the first half a lot. They'd be good as croutons in soup or salad too.

When considering what maintenance might look like in the hopefully not so distant future, I bought a lovely little recipe book called 'The Right Carb' which focuses on complex carbs and lovely nutritious food. It did make me wonder though - what's the difference between'Mediterranean' and 'low GI/GL' ways of eating? Or are they broadly similar?

As you can tell from the above two examples, I filled my lack of eating time this weekend by spending lots of money on Amazon 🙈

texican · 09/02/2021 07:07

Also, well done to @Squirrelblanket, @Squaretoe and @shreddergodo for your scale and non scale achievements over the last few days!

Forfecksake17 · 09/02/2021 09:32

@texican - those ‘cheesies’ look amazing!! Crisps ( and wine) are my major downfall. I could happily live the rest of my life without cakes/ chocolate but I LOVE all crisps! I am going to order myself those cheesies for a tiny little reward for when I get under 10st.

I am definitely trying to see this as a new way of eating rather than a diet, I think Mediterranean way of eating sounds delish- and I am sure moderate amounts of red wine must be part of that 😂

I am going to aim to stick to 2 meals a day, lunch / dinner, and eat between 1pm-7pm.
Haven’t decided whether to weigh everyday or not. I could get very easily detailed I think if I don’t see much progress on the scales 😕

Hope you all have a good day today!!

Forfecksake17 · 09/02/2021 09:34
  • derailed not detailed! Bloody autocorrect 🙄
PhoenixMama · 09/02/2021 10:47

Love the flurry of activity! Welcome @BoozeHound and @Forfecksake17!

I'm plateau'd again... 2nd week in a row blah. Will be my period partly and these bloody scales. so annoyed that I always have 1 week - 10 days a month where things are out of sync.

I bought some new bras and I've gone down a cup size so some things are shrinking lol.

I'm also wondering if the running has something to do with it in that I'm building muscle? We'll see. Having soup for lunch and steak and greens for dinner, really been craving red meat this week!

Forfecksake17 · 09/02/2021 11:04

@PhoenixMama - I have had to resort to wearing the same bra practically all the time as 90% of mine don’t fit anymore ( it’s in danger of being washed to a rag at this rate!)
I think the running definitely could be impacting on the scales, you sound like you are doing really well and building up stamina so I am sure it will be building muscle mass too.
I started doing Joe wicks workout this morning, that was another low point! It’s a sad state of affairs when a workout aimed at keeping kids fit results in me gasping for air on the floor like a beached whale 🤦🏻‍♀️
Honestly if I don’t laugh I’ll cry!!

shreddergodo · 09/02/2021 14:37

Hi @BoozeHound Good to see you here! Absolutely incredible losses well done, though sounds like it's been a bit rough... Feel free to say more about food obsession. I think there is an element of... combatting or 'owning' the diet as a force for good and not a punishment, especially in a society that pushes a specific body type as the only way to be attractive and assigns morals to food groups (eye roll!). I wonder if you could let yourself have foods your obsessing about and see if that helps, just a slice of cake or piece of toast with honey or whatever it is that you're craving so very much. It's really helped me to move away from the deprivation mindset (coming to this with a history of an eating disorder) and reading up on the science behind it. Would def recommend the book, have you read it? I enjoyed it (I rented the audiobook from the e-library).

@Forfecksake17 Welcome!! I also am really learning a lot about protein and carb contents. I do feel like vegetarians (I'm a vegan) may struggle as pulses, which are the main source of my protein, are so high in carbs as well! I don't think they are allowed on a keto diet for that reason.
I agree Mediterranean, although killer to spell, sounds so much for delicious than low GI. I feel like I think of a sunny place, warm sea, salads and fresh fruit etc... Those Joe Wicks workouts are hard, don't undermine yourself! My toddler is so fit he can run around constantly without once being out of breathe.

Thanks @PhoenixMama it feels good and I count it as a bit of a victory as I feel like I was controlled a lot by food until recently. It's not even about self control but just taking a deep breathe and believing that there will be a time when I can enjoy pastries again, just right now I'm doing something else that has it's own 'sweetness' to it.I think there is something to do with water retention when you workout at first, as exercises causes little tears which cause inflammation in your muscle, please period... You'll get your whoosh no doubt. I have heard of plateaus happening, I think they are mentioned in the F800 book am I right on that? so hard to stay motivated though when the scales don't budge that's why I'm so scared of weighing regularly!

@texican well down on your loss- interesting to hear that a crispy treat didn't affect you, very nice actually as I don't plan on being on 800 kcal a day my whole life.

BoozeHound · 09/02/2021 14:40

@Forfecksake17 that sounds like pretty good carbs to me, I think the most important think is to aim for aim for 60g of protein and try to keep carbs the same or lower but protein is the most important thing. I’m very new to this and haven’t read the book so please correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m finding that if to hit 60 g of protein without carbs going to high I end up having loads of fat. It feels a bit counter intuitive but just trying to trust the process as it’s definitely working.

I’m also veggie and finding Greek yoghurt fairly essential, along with eggs. Have also just found some delicious vegan fake ham which has tons of protein and hardly any calories.

I’ve found the last couple of days surprisingly easy, I’m not particularly hungry and enjoying going to bed comfortable. It’s made me realise that very often I’d go to bed totally stuffed from eating loads of dinner.

I’m coming to the end of week 1 and so far lost 4lbs, can anyone more experience say what week 2 was like for them, can I expect to continue loosing lbs quite quickly in week 2? It’s so motivating seeing such big changes on the scales.

BoozeHound · 09/02/2021 14:59

@shreddergodo missed your message when I posted, thanks! I’m ok, I think I was just getting to grips with it all and felt like it planning what to eat, getting the macros right etc was consuming me.
It’s becoming easier everyday I think and feel quite amazed at how not unhungry I feel yet how much weight has come off so far. Total agree about it being a force for good. And well done for your nsv, I think that’s a great way of framing it, it’s not never just not at the moment.

I haven’t read the book, I really must!

You’re so right about pulses, I had some lentils with my dinner on Sunday, couldn’t believe how tiny a 50g portion was but 23g of carbs. I’d normally have about 5 times the portion!

Forfecksake17 · 09/02/2021 17:18

@shreddergodo - I tried to be vegan about 18 months ago but I really struggled. I enjoy cheese and ( up until now!) pasta and egg noodles. I found I was getting stressed out trying to think of things to eat. I have been vegetarian nearly my whole life so I went back to that again.
Thanks for the encouragement with Joe Wicks - I was actually ashamed of myself this morning and how terrible I was!!

Hi @BoozeHound- I have just stocked up on Greek yogurt and lots of eggs! I can see lunch being a variation of scrambled eggs /omelettes or yogurt and berries. Is it the quorn vegan ham you have tried? It is really good, sometimes I end up eating the whole packet once I open it 😳 I recently discovered the squeaky bean brand of fake meat sandwich slices- they are gooooood but I need to check carbs/ cals to see if they are still ‘allowed’
I have been bit confused about how I am going to get enough protein without going way over with carbs. In my head I wanted to keep carbs to about 30/35g but not sure that will be possible 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am feeling ok in terms of hunger , struggling little bit to drink enough water but think it’s partly because it’s so cold just now with all the snow etc and I just don’t fancy cold water!

Squirrelblanket · 09/02/2021 19:08

I have various water bottles and fill them in the morning so that most of them are room temperature by the time I drink them. I don't like cold water in this weather either!

Speaking of which, the snow has already ruined my plan to get 10k steps a day every day this week. I am ready for spring now, the snow can do one!

I made 'courgette fries' for dinner tonight. (With burgers). I don't think I'll bother again, not great. I'm in a Facebook group where everyone is going mad for celeriac chips but I'm not keen on celeriac. I think I'll stick to a side salad next time! Grin

Forfecksake17 · 09/02/2021 19:41

I hate courgette- courgette and aubergine are my idea of hell! ( and coriander 😖)
I’ve never tried celeriac but if it’s the closest I can get to chips I might have to give it a whirl at some point!

I’ve been trying to encourage my daughter to come out walks with me in the snow but it’s torture ‘it’s too cold’ ‘I need the toilet’ ‘I’m thirsty’ 🙄 we’ve hardly got out the street yet this week!!

funtimefrank · 09/02/2021 21:44

@Forfecksake17 are you near a waitrose? They do packets of frozen celeriac (for 85p - bargain). It's in a small dice and I use it as a mash substitute - boil it for 5 mins, drain well and use my stick blender with a tsp of butter and s&p. It's like 28 cals and about 2g of carbs for 100g so you can have a big pile of it.

Real celeriac takes ages to peel if you a lazy fucker like me. This frozen one is so easy.
