Oh no - putting weight on would be a real bugger! Not losing is annoying and frustrating but I think I would cry if I actually put weight on! ☹️

1questionshootout · 24/09/2020 19:13

(she's the one in polka dot shorts and gold boots, in case anyone is interested!)

MysweetAudrina · 24/09/2020 19:24

@1questionshootout just had a look there, she is in the full video and some really good shots of her in the last part. Was that your first time seeing it. How cool is that to have on your cv?

1questionshootout · 24/09/2020 19:30

I know! We are all mega excited here, yes that was my first time seeing it. She’s been in music vids before ( Paloma Faith till I’m done), some stuff with Fleur East, and was one of Ellie Goulding’s dancers at the X factor final last year. But this was definitely her most High profile work in her career.

( she’s a tenacious wee soul!)

Jollyholibobs · 24/09/2020 20:05

Just had delicious dinner of courgetti either leek, mushroom and Boursin, sprinkled with 5g of chopped walnuts and broccoli. DH had is with pasta and enjoyed it.

MysweetAudrina · 25/09/2020 08:57

I'm finishing w2 today. I had no scales for week 1 so no idea what start weight was or how much I lost in w1 but I am pleased to say I am down 5.8lb for w2. I am really loving my smart scales as it has taken the focus of my weight number and given me lots of other numbers that are good health indicators and do not have so much baggage attached to them like weight does. I can now focus on other things like body fat %, muscle mass, protein, water composition, subcutaneous fat, visceral fat etc and it's great seeing them go down. It's telling me that my metabolic age is 51 and I am only 46Blush so that is a great incentive to reduce weight and increase fitness and muscle.

Hope everyone else is having a good week and enjoys the weekend.

Jollyholibobs · 25/09/2020 10:13

Great start @MysweetAudrina.

Taking the focus off weight and onto health has definitely helped me with motivation too.

RR369 · 25/09/2020 20:42

That's a great loss @MysweetAudrina I love my new smart scales too.
Wow @1questionshootout you must be so proud!
Earlier this week I remembered a tip I got from a pregnant woman with gestational diabetes on reducing insulin levels. She said to go for a 20 minute walk after your meals, especially dinner. I've been giving it a try this week just after dinner and trying a power walk earlier in the day while still in my fasting window. We'll see if it helps 🤞

aceofbase1 · 26/09/2020 08:32

@MysweetAudrina which scales are they? I need some decent ones

aceofbase1 · 26/09/2020 08:36

So I've not posted for a while as I've been so busy. I've been relying on shakes most of this week as I've been so busy at work.
Not ideal but I just haven't had time to cook.

So 5.5 weeks in and I've lost 1 stone and 4lbs Grin another 6.5 pounds and I've lost my lockdown weight! Grin I want a further stone off after that too.

In those 5.5 weeks I've had a total of 6 days off plan so I'm quite happy with that number. I'm weighing every day and definitely seeing the "woosh" effect. Scales stay static or even rise for a few days and then it comes off in one go or over a spate of 3 days.

MysweetAudrina · 26/09/2020 08:46

@aceofbase1 I bought the Renpho digital, Bluetooth scales from Amazon for £30. Not sure how good it is compared to others but the reviews were positive and it was affordable and at the time I bought it I didn't realise it took all these additional measures, but they are really giving me an overall picture of areas I need to improve in order to be at my healthiest. I'm loving the fact that I am no longer seeing my weight in terms of looking fat but rather the effect that losing it will have on all of these other health indicators.

mummymacphee · 26/09/2020 11:48

Yeah - I'm off the plateau and heading back downhill! 2.5 lbs off this week, which is just a smidge off 20 lbs in total.

Chin up fellow plateauers - there is light at the end of the tunnel! Bit of a mixed metaphor, but you know what I mean!👍

nibdedibble · 26/09/2020 12:46

I’m a smidge of 20lbs off as well! Doesn’t it feel good?
I’m only really able to say that here! I have quite a lot of friends who are into the whole body positivity thing, absolutely behind that but also, carrying less weight is just healthier. So I don’t have anyone to talk to about it! I am 100% doing this for health reasons and not so I can get into a size 6 bodycon dress but also I really like being a bit lighter, I can see I look better, and I’d love to be able to express that without upsetting or irritating anyone Confused
A lot of it is about being strong and flexible, at least two of my not-slim friends are absolute powerhouses. I am just happier being slimmer and would also like to be a powerhouse!

Cantteach · 26/09/2020 13:44

Totally agree! I know I look better slimmer but my main driver is health. Type 2 diabetes runs in the family. I need to get a grip on my weight and lifestyle in general to have any chance of avoiding it. My dad was diagnosed a couple of years ago and he's doing brilliantly, almost off medication but every time he sees me he tells me to do all I can to avoid the same fate. Few other things have happened which has made me finally listen.

We should be body positive and not encouraging young girls to think it's normal to still fit in child sized clothes as an adult (Victoria Beckham!) but at the same time fat isn't healthy. Someone who is fat and runs is healthier than someone who is fat and doesn't but someone who is slim and runs is healthier still- that will be me! Just taking a while Grin

Jollyholibobs · 26/09/2020 14:02

Great to see that sticking with it gets through the plateaus. It has for me too.
Agree with the importance of focusing on the positive benefits for our health of this WOE. I am working hard on my mindset to focus my motivation on health which I think will help me not fall into the trap I have all my life of reaching a goal weight and then going back to eating as I had before.

I was thinking today that I need to stop myself focusing on a goal weight and focus on maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, exercising for strength and fitness. Still some work to do on this.

mummymacphee · 26/09/2020 16:19

Totally agree - it's hard not to get obsessed with the numbers on the scales but knowing that, even on the days/weeks that you've not lost anything, you've still helped improve your overall health makes it worth sticking with it.

MysweetAudrina · 26/09/2020 21:59

For those looking for recipes I cooked another one from the book today which went down well with both myself and dh and is under 300kcal

Peel, slice and boil 2 medium carrots, clove of garlic and thumbnail of ginger. When carrots have softened, scoop out 100ml of the water and reserve, drain the rest. Add knob of butter and squeeze of lemon juice, season well and blend until smooth adding reserved water to get desired consistency.

Season 2 cod fillets (125g each), fry for 4 mins in olive oil and sprinkle some dried chilli flakes, flip and fry other side.

Serve with tender stem broccoli.

Jollyholibobs · 26/09/2020 23:08

Definitely trying that cod recipe next week. Thanks @MysweetAudrina.

alltalknobaby · 27/09/2020 15:06

Hello all 👋🏻

Me and DP started the fast 800 last Monday. I started with a BMI of 24.9 (11st 9, I am 5ft 8). I've lost 6.5lbs and am now BMI 23.9. DP has lost 12lbs with BMI of 29 (he is quite a bit more muscular than me).

I am finding 800 cals increasingly hard - I am very low on energy, weak, dizzy, nauseous and incredibly grumpy. I'm wondering if a week is enough and I should maybe switch to 5:2 now? Or should these symptoms start to improve in week 2?

I would like to lose maybe another 5-7lbs and then see how I feel but I don't know if I can keep up 800cals a day - it's very hardcore Blush

RR369 · 27/09/2020 20:13

Tried cauliflower rice for the first time tonight- yum!! Added fresh ginger, garlic, chilli, red pepper, spring onion, turmeric and a dash of soy sauce. Need a new food processor though, took forever with my ancient blender ☹️
Hi @alltalknobaby sounds like 5:2 might be easier or a variation eg 4:3. I wish I was a man- my DH is losing faster than me while eating loads more 😖

DuckPancake · 27/09/2020 22:16

Hey folks just checking in. I have lost 1 stone since the beginning of September. Rather pleased Smile

Jollyholibobs · 28/09/2020 08:10

@alltalknobaby your BMI is in the healthy range so fast800 may indeed be too demanding. However in week 1 I think pretty much everyone feels meh until you get used to might be worth sticking for a few more days and seeing if you feel better. But as you have so little to lose it should be a short time anyway then if you still want the benefits of IF try 5:2 or 16:8.

Jollyholibobs · 28/09/2020 08:14

My weight dipped below the next half stone marker yesterday. Instant feel good all day. Back above this morning. So now I need to avoid the instant downer. This is why weighing every day is a bad idea.

@DuckPancake that’s a great loss.

I need to keep focused on the downward trend. 14.6 lbs down since 14/08.

new800 · 28/09/2020 09:03

Hello! Another newbie starting today - aiming to lose 12kg. Aiming for a 15 hour fast and then have carrot and coriander soup for lunch.

What are people's thoughts about what you can have when fasting? I've read on the website that only black coffee/water - is tea with a splash of milk off limits?

Jollyholibobs · 28/09/2020 13:20

Welcome @new800.
Regarding what to drink while fasting -you could have tea without milk, herb teas or red bush tea (my personal favourite). Michael Moseley suggests I think that if you can’t bear not to have your splash of milk have it rather than breaking the fast on other ways. Personally as someone who used to have a serious PG tips with milk heavy consumption I’ve found that it only took a few days for me to get used to red bush tea instead. In fact when I think I’ll have a PG tips with milk after lunch a couple of times and it wasn’t a treat it tasted funny to me.

Good luck with this way of eating.
