That's excellent strategies bear. Thank you! I will adopt all of them. I too have two kids a bit older than your two younger, but your method would suit us too.

fromnowhere · 16/11/2018 17:47

Good tips thank you.

My kids are almost the same age as your younger two bear 6 & 4. We don't ever really have biscuits in the house anyway, it's more just the bread, pasta, crumpets etc. Embarrassingly since I stopped eating bread, our household consumption has reduced massively. I must have been eating so much! I would buy a loaf every two days and we've barely been through a loaf and a half in a week since I've been doing bsd Blush.
Well done Westwing it sounds like you're in the zone!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/11/2018 18:05

From y’see bread doesn’t get me at all, it’s chocolate for me. I cannot have it in the house, even crap chocolate. And I’m also a real glutton for things that are allowed, but not in huge quantities; I cannot even consider buying peanut butter for example because I will eat the entire jar spoon at a time, I buy the powdered stuff now for occasional recipes or shakes. And cheese. I am addicted to cheese! Nuts, Greek yogurt.... they are all on the banned list!

Had a good day today, bacon and egg at lunch and then I was painting ds’s bedroom so busy and not really eating. We are at in-laws for a meal tonight though, so there will be wine, and probably pudding too.

Hope you enjoyed your meal bear and that your foot is improving.
I started BSD again on Wed and have so far averaged 800 cals and about 75g carbs. I've lost almost 6lbs although I know it's just the initial whoosh and I'll need to wait until next Wed to see how it all balances out I'm actually enjoying being back in the zone again!

luckylips · 17/11/2018 22:29

Pls can I join? How much can I expect to lose in 8 weeks? I am 11 stone.

SadGuru · 18/11/2018 06:17

One week completed and started week 2 today. I've lost in total 6 pounds in week 1. I haven't lost any weight in the last two days but I'm not too fussed about that. I know weight loss will happen as long as I stick to the plan. What is shocking though is the change in my measurements. My waist circumference has reduced from 99 to 83cm!! That's just over 6 inches lost in week! I feel very motivated now to stay on trackSmile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/11/2018 08:19

Amazing sadguru, very motivating!

Lucky welcome aboard. It’s hard to say what you’ll lose but the potential to lose 4-6lbs a week for a few weeks is definitely there, see sad above. It depends how many carbs you were eating previously, and how much visceral fat you have. But it’s definitely possible.,

I had an ok day on Friday and Saturday, but both days I’ve not calorie counted, had wine, had dessert etc. So not expecting a loss of any sort this week. Really struggling with my mojo to be honest, but I’m maintaining which is a positive. Today I’m going to fast til lunchtime and go for my run this afternoon, not sure what’s on the menu today as we have nothing in so will need to do a shopping list and menu for the week.

Have a good day everyone!

Had a 'cheat day' yesterday.
A healthy breakfast (eggs) and we had friends over for lunch so I ate with them (pastry thing with brie and some veg) and had a few glasses of red wine, then a plate from the cheeseboard (Inc bread), a few little chocolates and a few leftover slices of Margherita pizza at dinnertime. I felt really bloated last night but had my last thing to eat at 6pm and nothing after that and I felt ok this morning and back on the waggon!

I think long term this is what I want, to be able to eat well and make good choices 90% of the time then be able to let loose once in a while without bingeing and feeling awful and sinking into a terrible eating pattern again. Weirdly what I ate yesterday was barely a patch on what I would have eaten on a day like that just a few weeks ago.

Its only been two weeks but I already feel like i'm starting to see things in a much more objective light. Going to stick with it til Christmas and then assess how to proceed, whether that's low carb or 5:2, 16:8, i'm not sure, but today I'm feeling really positive Grin

P.s. It was hard this morning not to reach for the toast and butter which would be my Sunday morning go-to, but I resisted and theres a small sense of self esteem that seems slowly to be creeping in the more I make better choices for myself. I'm not accepting the inevitability of me failing at this anymore. Maybe I'll actually do it this time and find a lifestyle which keeps me slim and healthy...?!

fromnowhere · 18/11/2018 09:10

Sorry for the essay!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/11/2018 20:51

From that’s brilliant. I totally understand what you mean in your last paragraph too- my self esteem increases so much when I know I’m following the plan, and I stop feeling like I can’t control myself. It’s very liberating. I despise that old saying, ‘nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’ but I do agree that when it’s working, that feeling of saying no is sometimes more enjoyable than the thing itself. Long may it last!

I’ve had a good day today although I haven’t counted cals. I just didn’t eat all day, not by plan as such but I wanted to wait until after my run and then ended up not going til 2. Came back, and decided to wait until dinner. We had slow cooked beef, roast pumpkin, veg, and I did have a Yorkshire pud. I also made an almost sugar free crumble (just 1 tbsp sugar in the crumble mix which served 6) and served with a tiny spoonful of that halo top ice cream. Felt very decadent! And that’s kitchen closed for today!

Strategy this week: plan my meals out every day, and then no deviation. I grazed a lot last week. I’m going to track calories/carbs quite closely. I need to drink more water. I’m still on a recovery plan for my foot, so will only run alternate days. We’re out on Thursday as we’re going to see Dave Gorman, but Dh will be out Saturday which means I might have an alcohol free Saturday.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I ended on 978 cals. I forgot I signed up to this and ate Monster Munch that my DS didn't want 🙄

Meals were - slimming shake, milky coffee, scrambled eggs, chicken and salad, monster munch, skinny flat white.

Am still reading the thread so looking forward to getting to know you all

SadGuru · 18/11/2018 21:40

Lucky I started the BSD just a few days ahead of you. It will be lovely to share our challenges, achievements and generally support each other.
Bear and From, some lovely reflections there. It feels nice to be in zone and in control of what I eat instead of food being in control and me eating compulsively everything! It's a kind of mindfulness in that I'm consciously choosing what to eat and what not. This has helped me avoid kids leftovers, snacks in the cupboard and ice cream in the fridge.
Like bear said, may this continue for long

fromnowhere · 19/11/2018 08:05

Lucky I only started two wks ago so still a newbie myself! The more the merrier. I feel like I don't want to bore friends and family in real life so this place is a real support system!

Oblomov18 · 19/11/2018 10:57

Morning. Just checking in. Weighed today and am still the same weight. Will try hard this week.

Westwing1 · 19/11/2018 11:16

Morning, welcome Lucky. Weighed, 1 1/2 lbs lost, considering it was week of my period I am pleased. Pretty good over weekend other than too much wine.

Asparagus and poached egg for late breakfast. Going to have pile of veg for dinner too. DH away for 3 or 4 days so I am going to really try and stick to 800 kc this week. Food diary has been dusted off.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/11/2018 12:00

First meal of the week! Salad with falafel, crispy bacon and thousand island dressing.

Well done Westwing!
Oblomov, I haven't shifted the scales for a week, but measured myself and have lost inches. Have you measured?
Bear that looks lovely. I have tuna nicoise in my plan for this week, really looking forward to it!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 19/11/2018 22:06

It's nice to see a familiar face ... And to see so many new people too.
I've been quite focused this week. We have a busy run of nights out, concerts, short breaks and parties from this week until Christmas so I'll need to stay conscious of what I'm eating and not fall into snacking. But I'm already in a much better place than I was last week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/11/2018 22:13

Good day for me, although didn’t count calories. 14k steps as well. I’m a touch hormonal and did graze a little bit in the afternoon, but nothing too terrible.

Tomorrow, run in the morning, another salad at lunch, and dinner is a tray bake of chicken, bacon and butternut squash which I’m very excited about!

Pleased to report I was under 800 cals yesterday and I resisted a beautiful cake at work for someone's birthday! Go me!

Koko there’s a few newish starters on here at the moment. Cottage cheese is fine, full fat is perfect. I think planning out your meals is the best way for the early days. I usually loosely plan for about 700 cals then use my calorie app on the day to get the exact number. Otherwise I end up doing what I’ve done today which is eat ham slices, cheese and yogurt, all standing up at the fridge door!

Koko oooh I’m always intrigued with a name changer! My particular ‘treat du jour’ is sliced ham and sliced Edam sort of rolled up like a cigar. Grim I had managed to convince myself that this was a healthy snack, until I calorie counted it properly and established it as a whopping 150 calories! Now I do weigh my cheese at least.....!
I’ve been here ages, nearly 3 years. I’m currently my lowest ever adult weight, 3st3lbs down overall, and 2st3 down in this attempt. I decided in January that I was going to diet hard this year and take up running- for one year more- and whatever happened I was going to find out what it takes to be ‘target weight’ and then decide if I can do it longterm. I can’t be on the rollercoaster all my life. So far I’ve done well, I’m about 5lbs from where I’d vainly like to be (as I’m 10.4 and I’d like to be in the 9’s!) But I’ve been 10.4-10.7 almost continually now for 6 months, so I think this is my weight. I seem to be able to balance input and output quite effectively at this weight.

If I wanted to lose the 5lbs enough I’d: count calories every day, give up alcohol, eat less dairy, and not graze so much- so clearly I’m not that concerned. But I keep chasing it. I’m running a half marathon in April next year so from January I will be doing strict nutritional planning and harder training, and no alcohol. I’m not sure yet whether I’ll still claim to be BSD although I am definitely staying low carb and increasing protein. When this diet is working for me and I’m in the right headspace, I feel amazing on it, even though I do have more than 800 calories now as I’ve been doing it so long.

I need to join you please.

Currently trying to low carb, high fat, going fairly well. However, I too have a tendency to graze at the fridge door. I think I need to start calorie counting too.

I like full fat Fage yoghurt 5%. I used to buy the big tubs but the small one are on offer at 70p I now buy the small ones. I have improved my portion control and no longer feel the need to tidy up a half eaten large tub. The small ones are approx 1 kcal per gramme so roughly 150 g per pot. I cheat a little as I have half a teaspoon of pomegranate molasses but consider it better than a desert spoon of honey.

I have the yoghurts for breakfast and lunch and a few slices of cheese, yes I need to weight it.
Dinner tonight is slow baked cauliflower with Parmesan cheese.

I start the morning with a cup of tea and one plain biscuit, I have a coffee with milk in the evening, otherwise I am drinking herbal tea or water.

I have successfully cut out the carbs but my diet it very heavy dairy wise. I like cottage cheese but as some of you have mentioned I can eat a whole rub at the fridge.Blush
