Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Help! Went massively off plan today. Was at a barbecue and just kept eating! Tried keeping to vegetables and protein but it's so hard in social situations. Ate the kids leftovers as was embarrassed at how much they had left too. I'm so cross with myself after the good week I have had.

We are out for Father's Day lunch tomorrow too. I dread stepping on the scales tomorrow.

Any tips on how to keep on plan when socialising?

Hehe not me tonight, but definitely sometimes! Thought I'd share....

Helloo lovely lot! Have just read thorough end of thread and this shiny new one -thanks bear!
Wow, some amazing losses!! Did lots of people notice your weight loss at your communion oblo??
Apologies for my absence this week - manic!! However, can I say I bloody love this diet? Apart from a few too many cashews last Sunday I am still on plan (my plan is to be between 800-1000 cals per day but most days have been under 800 and have never actually got to 1000 even on cashew day). First part of this week I did not lose a thing :((
At work, a colleague's birthday, she threw a punnet of strawberries at me "for those of us who do not eat cakes..." (I had 3 strawberries and NO cake!!! In the past I might have hoovered up all the leftovers...)
But yesterday, after realising I am hitting TOTM, happy to report 3lb loss. Am down to 15.4.5 which is 15lbs in 3 weeks!! 3 inches off hips+bum. Inch off thigh and arm. 2 inches off boobs. NO inches off waist - how????
I can add to the loving Eislibg wine group - especially the rose, but on this plan I have cut that out too.Am drinking sparkling water with chunks of lime or lemon in. Am down to two black coffees a day (big reduction!!!)
So, 5 weeks to go - I have a school function in a fortnight and a wedding at the end of July. I'd love to try on the dress that wouldn't really go down past my boobs and decide that I look good in that!!
And why am I up so early?? DS1 is running and I am (dusting cobwebs off) bike purchased before DS2 arrived (he is 6) to cycle while some of the mums run "a few" miles. Note: up til 3 weeks ago I would be waiting, sat in car, on kindle or iplayer eating whatever I had picked up from garage on way + large cappuccino. I've done no exercise with this plan so far, apart from walking, so if you lot get up to a newsflash about a strange unidentified multicoloured object in woodlands it may be a huffing and puffing perdy!!
Ps - Am still on plan because I still don't trust myself. Hubby bought magnums yesterday and I didn't even sniff it. I've read someone upthread saying thinking of food groups as off limits like alcohol. That!!
Good luck this week all. I'll let you know if I can walk later :))

LostSight · 18/06/2017 08:58

Still 3lbs off after three weeks? That's fantastic. Nearing the end of week 1 (mini plateau yesterday and today after a slice of bread and some couscous on Friday) and that info makes me determined to continue.

Not far in, but vis-a-vis the socialising, On Friday at a friends house, I decided to eat what was available, but stop when full and that's what I stuck to. I think having a plan that allows some leeway, with the intention of getting straight back on the wagon after is probably psychologically better than thinking I'll stick rigidly to the diet and then failing. Also, forget being embarrassed about your kids' leftovers. Nobody will remember after about two minutes.

JigglyTuff · 18/06/2017 09:45

Yesterday started quite well - I was alternating wine with water. I also only ate one small bit of pita bread and just meat and veg after that.

Then the wine kicked in and I ate a salted caramel fig in chocolate and two pieces of rocky road Blush

I have a hangover :(

I'm just getting back on the wagon today and have turned down all socialising for the next 6 weeks as I can't trust myself and I really want to do this. I've realised that I'd rather lose weight than go out for a drink/meal

Oblomov17 · 18/06/2017 10:47

Holy Communion went really well. 24 family members for lunch afterwards. Thank you Perdy. No one commented on my weight specifically , but 3 different ladies who I didn't know, relatives of my m friends, came up to tell me that my dress was stunning. And considering there were 13 other beautifully presented mums there, I took that as a compliment.

The photo below, doesn't do it justice, but hey....

I am planning on continuing for the next month. Trying to get below 10 stone, as my goal, and then maintain.

And yes. Ds1 IS as tall as me!! Blush

JigglyTuff · 18/06/2017 11:11

You look amazing Oblomov! So glad the day went so well too :)

Perdyboo · 18/06/2017 11:44

You do look amazing!!

I am back - I survived. 20km on the bike and I only fell off once!! Cheers lostsight if I can keep 2 or 3lb a week off will be well chuffed!! Right, am off to scoff -mushrooms and poached eggs...

Flibbertyjibbit · 18/06/2017 11:45

You look great Oblomov, glad to hear the day went well.

Congrats Perdy, we are very similar I'm now on week 4 day 2, and lost 15.5lbs in total so far. This time next we will be over half way through the 8 weeks!

I've just been reading up on stalling/plateaus in weight loss. Found this on another forum which helps put my mind at rest for now

Taken from - sparkpeople

First, some definitions. A STALL is when you have lost pounds and no inches in at least four weeks. Two days is not a stall. Two weeks is not a stall. It has to be at least four weeks. The reason for this is that sometimes your body just needs to take a break and adjust to the weight that you've already lost. This can take a few weeks. If it's over four weeks, though, there's probably something else going on.

A PLATEAU is when you've been stuck at the same weight for a couple of weeks, but less than four. A plateau is extremely annoying, frustrating, discouraging, irritating, aggravating, bothersome, troublesome, disturbing and vexatious. It's also perfectly normal and healthy and is going to happen every now and then. Again, it's your body adjusting to the weight that it has already lost. Come on here and fuss and fume and gripe and whine, but don't sweat it. And if you had been losing weight before the plateau, DON'T CHANGE WHAT YOU WERE DOING! If it worked last week or the week before, it will probably continue working in a couple more weeks. Save the tinkering for a true stall.

A POST INDUCTION STALL is just what it sounds like, except it's really a plateau instead of a stall. Remember how much weight you lost the first couple of weeks of eating low carb? 5 or 10 pounds in a couple of weeks, more for some people? 5% or more of your body weight is not unusual. That's a big change for your body to get used to! Remember that your fat cells don't go away, they just get a bit limp as they lose fat. With that big of a change, they may call a halt to the whole process while they figure out whether everything is ok. In the meantime, they add a bit of water so they don't get any flabbier. After a couple of weeks, when they realize that they're still being fed appropriately and there are no new health issues for them to worry about, they decide that it's ok to let go of that extra water they've been holding on to. Which leads us to our last definition.

A WHOOSH is a big, sudden weight loss, usually after a plateau. You may wake up one morning and find that you've lost 2 or 3 pounds overnight. Congratulations! You've just had a visit from the Whoosh Fairy! Then your weight loss should continue, but probably at a slower rate than during the first few weeks.

This process will continue as long as you stay with low carb and are working on losing weight. You'll lose for a while, and then suddenly, without anything else changing, you'll be stuck. And you'll be frustrated and annoyed and aggravated and so on, and you'll come here and whine and gripe and complain and you'll want to change something but it probably won't matter what you change because your body is in adjustment mode. And then, suddenly and without changing anything (or even if you have changed something), you'll have a Whoosh. And the cycle will begin again.

Flibbertyjibbit · 18/06/2017 11:48

Cross posted - well done for surviving the bike ride!

Oblomov17 · 18/06/2017 12:14

It's a success if you only fall off your bike 'once'? Oh!!

And thanks for the info on whoosh, plateau etc. Very interesting.

alteredimage · 18/06/2017 12:40

"It's a success if you only fall off your bike 'once'? Oh!! "

I initially read this an an analogy for a diet. It's a success if you only fall off the wagon once.

Still slow going here, though I have had three days where I have probably kept to 800 cals, and last night managed to resist buying an ice cream whilst walking home. I am down a couple of pounds, though note Bear is rapidly disappearing in front of me. Next week should be a lot easier. DC are away so we will shop more often but simply buy what we need that day. The fridge will be empty!

tobee · 18/06/2017 14:27

So I had my usual breakfast today and I had about a 1/4 left and felt quite full. I could have thrown the rest away. I could have put the rest in the fridge to have a bit later. But I finished it after dithering. The reason I didn't throw away was coz I didn't want to be hungry before lunch and likely to snack. I didn't put it in the fridge to eat later coz of the no snacking, 2/3 meals aspect of this diet. What would you do?

Perdyboo · 18/06/2017 14:36

I am quite accident prone! Known for lack of spatial awareness and lack of balance!! But it was less of a fall and more like complete arse over tit (went headfirst over the handlebars after hitting something). Am totally fine - currently still got plenty of cushioning!!
Flibberty, yes! Next week will be halfway - that is quite a scary thought. So I'd like to drop another 10lbs in these remaining 5 weeks. Then not actually sure what to do about maintenance because I want to lose more....deal with that later!!

Nomoocluck · 18/06/2017 15:37

Father's Day lunch wasn't too bad. Gave my potatoes and yorkshire pudding to the kids and kept on plan. Finished my son's ice cream though. Expensive gelato- couldn't bring myself to waste it. Then I went food shopping and have planned all my lunches for the week. Variations of the same salad and will be making a big pot of soup for the freezer as well.

The stall and plateau thing is really interesting. Thanks. I'm definitely not giving up on the BSD as I love how my clothes are feeling so much comfier and I don't feel the desperate need to sneak a snack in. Just need to crack the socialising- my family is obsessed with food!

alteredimage · 18/06/2017 15:41

Tobee, I am trying to learn that I don't need to finish my plate. If I stopped eating when I was no longer hungry I would be far thinner.

Hopefully I would have wrapped it and put it in the fridge for 'ron' and then hopefully have forgotten about it. I am still not able to simply throw it away. But better at accepting that hunger won't kill me, but simply make the next meal tastier.

PinkBlossomTree · 18/06/2017 16:02

Well done everyone for staying on plan today!

I can totally relate to the finishing of your plate. Unfortunately it's how I've been brought up and I don't do the same with my dc. Unless it's a piss poor effort. I especially can't stand wasted meat.

I plan to address the portion sizes by buying smaller plates. We have huge square ones and they are doing us no favours. They are actually so big when we moved and got a new dishwasher the spinning arm fell off as they are too big for it. It doesn't clean things properly without it so I end up washing then by hand.

Week 5 weigh in tomorrow, it's gone really quick but on the other hand it's daunting to even consider not being on this new WOE.

I've not read the actual BSD book but the recipe book. Does anyone know if you there is a min bmi to restarting the round 2 as I just don't think my target is do able in the next 3 weeks?

Flightywoman · 18/06/2017 16:15

On plan yesterday and today. It's boiling and I haven't had any ice cream!

My family are bloody mad and want roast. I'm giving them some serious side-eye but there seems nothing for it. Confused

I think I'll have mine with salad.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/06/2017 16:47

Glorious day here, just sitting in the garden watching ds potter about in his paddling pool. We had s barbecue with dh's family, so I've had lots of salad and a pork steak, and a bunless burger. Some strawberries too and a glass of rose. Not calorie counted but all (kind of) on plan. Thursday did lead to a bit of a carb fest- I knew this, but I was pretty in denial but I should know by now. Then I have to do the hard bit, the detox, all over again.

This week coming I'm going back to basics once again. I am going to try to cut back on coffee- the reason being I think the sweetener I use doesn't help, although I have cut down to one in each. I will try and remember to have green tea instead. Looking through the pictures on my other thread, while my food does look very colourful and healthy, it's all very samey. Meat and salad in various combinations. This week I'm going to strive to get at least a few other meals in there! I actually love meat and salad, but perhaps it's not great to just eat the same all the time!

Oblo your dress looks beautiful. Your boys look very smart too, what a lovely family. Hope you had a great day. Flowers

Thanks for the info Flibberty. Knowing that a plateau is likely at some point means I can prepare mentally, which will make it easier to ride out.

Bought an electric bike yesterday. First go on it today (though we're going to have to return it as there's a small problem). It was fabulous, effortless cycling in an upright position that doesn't hurt my back. I felt like a child again! Not as much exercise as on a normal bike, but still some AND I enjoyed it, which might make all the difference in how much I use it.

Fabulous dress and lovely to read all the positive stories.

tobee · 18/06/2017 18:37

Anyone else feeling a bit queasy in this heat? Just filling up on water at the mo.

Flightywoman · 18/06/2017 19:49

You look lovely oblomov, that dress is fab on you.

Jiggly, I'm having the same conversation with myself - what do I want more? And right now, I want to be thinner more than I want to eat potatoes, bread, rice etc.

Maybe this WOE is what I'll have to do for the rest of my life, if I want to stay thin. And I need to come to terms with that. It IS about willpower but it's also about changing my whole relationship with food. I love cooking and nice things to eat, I need to not eat as much of them. And that's going to be a long and involved internal debate!

PhyllisWig · 18/06/2017 20:18

Funny weekend here. Yesterday I had a work function so was going to let myself relax. However the food was SHIT and I pretty much stuck to plan and probably only went over calories by a couple of hundred. Still it a lb on overnight though. Lots of walking and good food today so on plan. I feel fatter though which is probably the heat.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/06/2017 07:09

Well I've paid the price on the scales for my unplanned weekend off!

Back to it today. I need to drink more water today, and less wine. I am planning a lazy garden day with ds as its going to be a million degrees here, a salad lunch, and grilled gammon for dinner. Oh, and I really must do my measurements and jot them down as I still have not done them.

Holiday countdown: 5.5 weeks. It's still perfectly possible to lose a stone in that time.

Have a great week everyone.
