Blood sugar diet thread 7

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Week 5: 2.8lbs off this week with a total of 1st 3.2

Bmi start: 25.8 / Bmi now: 22.7

Inches lost:
Bust 2 / waist 3 / tummy 4 / thighs 5.

Absolutely over the moon with those results as previous to starting this I had been doing 5:2 for 3 months so didn't expect to loose much.

3 weeks left now, that's a daunting thought.

Decided on a BBQ tonight have already gone on MFP and planned what I will have so I can go shopping and not get side tracked with the belly pork this time. DH will be watched as he's got a nasty habit of over feeding.

JigglyTuff · 19/06/2017 08:07

That's brilliant pinkblossom and just the encouragement I need.

After my day off piste on Saturday I put on 2 lbs.

I'm going to do the eating window thing this week and see if that helps. And keep rereading flibberty's post to remind me not to get despondent!

It's easier not to eat when it's this hot I have to say

PinkBlossomTree · 19/06/2017 08:25

Keep drinking Jiggly I swear upping the water has massively helped. I normally drink 3 coffees and 1-2 green teas and 1L of water but over the last few days 2L -2.5L and it's coming off again.

Prior to this the scales hadn't changed in a week so drink up ladies!

MoominFlaps · 19/06/2017 09:22

Good morning all. Checking in for my very first day of BSD. My starting weight is 11st3. Goal weight is 9st - I'm only 5ft2.

I've planned my meals carefully this week.

Today I'm not having breakfast. Lunch is a smashed avocado with some cherry tomatoes. Dinner big salad with broccoli and hard boiled egg. For snacks I have plain almonds and cherry toms. Will still drink tea but having almond milk in it.

Drinking loads of water.

Counting on you all to keep me on the straight and narrow Smile love hearing all your success stories!!

Bringmewineandcake · 19/06/2017 09:34

2 and 1/4lbs off for me this week which includes the 3/4lb I gained last week. That's 10.5lb total loss so far.

Oblomov17 · 19/06/2017 09:38

Well done Pink.

Morning Everyone.
I have maintained at 10-3.
I am working hard, doing all the right stuff, but the occasional wine and crisps, is clearly my undoing. I am going to have to work really hard/even harder to get into the 9's.

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/06/2017 11:48

Well done on the great losses. I'm trying to ignore I've stayed the same for the 8th day in a row. Disheartening when I've stuck to the plan.

I shall try to drink more water today to see if that helps.

PinkBlossomTree · 19/06/2017 12:23

Keep going Fibberty, it's disheartening but just stick with it. Same happened to me last week but measurements were showing a loss.

Oblo not long and you will be in that new stone category.

Wine that's a great loss

You can do it moomin, great week to start as you can fill up on water.

MoominFlaps · 19/06/2017 13:05

Not feeling too hungry at the moment though won't be eating dinner til 6.30 so will be starving by then I expect.

According to MFP I should be aiming for more protein than I'm actually eating - where do you all get your protein? Meat? Fish?

I'm coming up high on fat but low on protein - only about 30g today.

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/06/2017 13:31

Thanks Pink

Good luck Moomin - I get my protein from meat, cheese and also greek yoghurt, I add chia seeds to my yoghurt to increase the protein content. I don't think we can achieve the protein MFP wants us to eat as we are restricted to 800 calories a day -this is lower than MFP allows. I've averaged 50g carbs/day, with a few 30g days and a few 60g days. MFP says I should be eating 80g/day but I haven't hit this in the last 3 weeks i've been on BSD.

Fat will be higher as that is what we use to fuel our bodies when we low carb. I found upping fat in meals helped me get through carb flu in the first week.

I like hard boiled eggs which makes things easy. Filling, not many calories, and can be kept in the fridge. I have been surprised to the extent that I have lost interest in red meat. Instead its chicken or fish. After reading Mosley's healthy gut book, I am trying to up the amount of oily fish I eat.

(One thing I noted from the gut book is how strong tasting many of the recommended foods are. You really can eat a small amount of very dark chocolate, rocquefort, or mackerel. Throw in a bit of cider vinegar beforehand and sugar cravings are largely gone. )

DH is part of my problem. Before anyone says LTB, he is very nice. However he is a feeder. I was effortlessly slim till I got married. On Saturday he was doing the shopping. He ask what I wanted and I suggested I would like something for Monday lunchtime, either a small piece of chicken, some prawns, some salmon or some mackerel. He goes and buys everything, and large quantities at that. Within about a 10 minutes walk we have 2 M&S, 2 Waitrose, 2 Sainsbury's, one Morrisons, 2 Tescos and more. Plus 2 Itsu's, 4 Nandos and countless Pret's. He works next to a vast Waitrose so will pick up anything we need on his way home. I am not going to starve.

He is thin, I am not.

I guess I will have to be disciplined and ignore the fridge. He can take stuff in for lunch. I remind me of how much I used to loath an otherwise nice colleague, possibly anorexic, who used to bring all sorts of treats in from home. Cake, uneaten Easter chocolate, etc, leave it at the end of my desk and then go on about how fat she was (not at all) whilst I scoffed. But I can't do much about other people. I just need to develop some willpower.

PinkBlossomTree · 19/06/2017 13:37

Protein from meat, fish occasionally, eggs often as they are very low cal, cheese and always make sure I have ham on hand as if I feel really hungry I can grab a slice or 2 for very little cals. Also have prawns a lot as again very low in cals

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/06/2017 13:49

Doing a bit of recipe hunting while ds watches fireman Sam, found these little beauties for anyone who likes hard boiled eggs

www.createdby-diane.com/2014/04/beet-dyed-deviled-eggs.html

I am at a family 'do' this weekend and I think I might make some of these to take. Also, I wonder if they could be modified with some sort of avocado/prawn/Marie rose concoction in the centre?

MoominFlaps · 19/06/2017 14:12

Oh really? I have managed to adjust MFP to 800 cals.

MoominFlaps · 19/06/2017 14:14

Oh and I do the cooking so dp eats what I eat or goes hungry Wink

DS (16 months) is more of an issue as obviously needs starchy carbs so I do have to exercise willpower when he leaves half his macaroni cheese or what have you...

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/06/2017 15:51

Thanks Moomin - didn't realise I could change it to 800 calories.

So I am much happier than this morning - found the tape measure, 4 inches off my waist since I last measured. Happy with that in 3 weeks.

MoominFlaps · 19/06/2017 15:58

oh wow well done flibberty

GOD am I ever craving ice cream.

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/06/2017 16:10

Thank you. I made frozen raspberry yoghurt - blitzed frozen raspberries and greek yoghurt in blender. Then passed it through a fine sieve, put it back in freezer for 30 mins then you can serve. It is tart as no sugar but I made it in week 1, it tastes less tart now I am 3 weeks in. Might have a small scoop after dinner.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/06/2017 16:39

Oblomov you look amazing. I'm glad you had a lovely day Flowers

Lots of great losses - well done everyone! I'm just the same, fluctuating up and down by about 3lbs depending on the day.

LostSight · 19/06/2017 17:31

End of week one. Four kilos lost and five cm from my waist. Had a low carb but no calorie counting day today. Back to the proper plan tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone else who's stuck to it this week.

tobee · 19/06/2017 17:45

Stupid scales! Weigh in this morning 3 times within 2 minutes out of interest. Nothing went in or came out during that time iyswim. So I'm either 11 st 9 1/2, 11 st 9 or 11 st 8 1/2. I went for 11 st 9. Think I'm just starting week 7 but I've lost track. Blush

Been looking at another thread about what to eat in hot weather. Lots of mention of crusty bread. Cauliflower mash is just the same, isn't it? Sad

tobee · 19/06/2017 17:47

Reading earlier posts. I miss Fireman Sam watching days! (Totally irrelevant to bsd but true).

yumyumpoppycat · 19/06/2017 18:35

Tobe me too! well cbeebies in general Sad my ds is 11 now (have a 6yo dd but she tries to keep up with older dc) will catch up with BSD chat now ;)

PinkBlossomTree · 20/06/2017 08:00

Tobee that's crazy what's going on with your scales?

I was a little over calories yesterday not by much tho but I'm going to let that slide as I do find I'm under most days.

How did everyone else get on yesterday?

PhyllisWig · 20/06/2017 08:17

Morning. Week 2 weigh in this morning and down to 10. 11 (or 10 10.75 in my second weigh ;)). This is 3.5lb off this week and 12lbs in total.

Feel fine. Tiny bit bored with the food but nothing major. Hunger is manageable and I don't really think about it. I do need to work on exercise as all I'm doing is my 10,000 a day plus the odd bit of yoga and 1 run. I blame the heat!

Well done on the other losses. Oblo good luck with the 9s!
