Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Hi Jiggly yes 16:8 - worth a try!

Oblomov let's hope your right - but white wine and ice cream can also become very appealing when it's hot!

Oblomov I had a similar day - someone was leaving at work - so cake, dp's nieces came round...so snacks ... I am going to try and be low tomorrow!

yumyumpoppycat · 16/06/2017 21:30

Sorry that last comment was for bear not Ob!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/06/2017 21:39

Gosh Oblomov what a stressful day but well done on finding an alterations place so quickly. No-one will notice it's been altered, they'll be too busy telling you how amazing you look! Have a fab time tomorrow Flowers

KTD27 · 16/06/2017 22:28

Evening all. Still plodding among here but amazed at how 'easy' my hb dad and mum are l finding it while I struggle along in the back.
Any ideas of a nice 'having people round for dinner' type meal? Either from the book or not. Having 5 over for Father's Day Late dinner. 3 of us on the BSD, one very healthy sister who'd love anything low cal and her super lanky I can eat anything fast metabolism boyfriend who will eat anything other than fish.
Was thinking maybe skinny aubergine lasagne from the book?
Any tried and tested meals? Preferably one pot or make in advance type things to fit around juggling a toddler 😊

yumyumpoppycat · 16/06/2017 22:38

KT how about some kind of bean and veg chilli or roasted veg chicken or salmon tray bake? Lovely to be doing this with your family but can see how it has downsides too, no doubt you will be sailing through it soon and they might find it more tricky - I defo have easier days and harder days.

Flibbertyjibbit · 16/06/2017 22:41

Hi all, just got home having only had half a yoghurt for breakfast (14 hours ago) I was surprisingly only a bit hungry for dinner. Been drinking lots of water and just had a small bowl of leftover Shepherd pie (swede mash). Thought I would be starving, only a slight headache but that could be tiredness not food related.

Got another busy day tomorrow so will try to pack some on plan food to take with me.

KTD7 - I made a yummy shepherds pie topped with swede mash, I let the lamb mixture reduce down without using cornflower, gravy was still thick. You could prep it all in advance then throw in oven 30 minutes before eating to brown the top of mash. Or a roast chicken/or any roast meat with a range of steamed veg, I just chuck all the veg in steamer while meat is resting. You can do potatoes for everyone else if you wish.

JigglyTuff · 16/06/2017 23:34

I don't know if I'm a whoosher Phyllis! Let's hope I am Grin

If not, I will give 16:8 a go

PinkBlossomTree · 17/06/2017 08:31

Argh this is driving me mad now no loss as yet this week official weigh in is Monday but I've gained a pound.

Yesterday we had a busy day here there and everywhere. I go to make scrambled egg for lunch and all the eggs are gone. DH had took them all to work for his breakfast. Ended up going without until tea time.

Made a 789 cal meal but couldn't finish it all so calculated what is left and my cals for yesterday was 650. And I'm now a pound up. How is that possible.

I was doing so well until last weeks night off plan and now I can't loose.

Have a great weekend everyone and good luck with your communion Oblo

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/06/2017 11:52

Morning everyone. What a fantastic day. As usual, kids are moaning (we don't like sun in our house apparently??) so I've put ds2 to bed and given ds1 the very important job of hosing all the garden furniture now buzz off and leave mummy alone to catch some rays

Yesterday was total disaster as reported. I was several pounds up this morning ( probably water retention) but I realise how that one taste of sugar gets me right back where I started; I can't yet control the urge to eat it ALL once I start. I haven't eaten yet today and we don't have much in, so it looks like it will be Ham, cheese and salad for lunch. I made a shake with almond milk, vanilla, avocado and a shot of espresso but I am waiting for it to cool down to ice cold before I drink it, although preliminary tasting suggests it should be quite nice.

I bought the Mimi spencer summer fast diet book in smiths yesterday (she did the original fast diet with MM), so I'm reading through that today. It's too high carb got my purposes really but there's some interesting science about fasting and also some useable recipes, workouts and other bits in there.

Good (checks clock) afternoon!

I had a planned off-plan night out last night. It was FAB! Lots of gin! We had tacos, I ate 4 chips and gave the rest to my husband and had some onion rings instead. The main problem was the peanut butter sandwich at 1am. Could have done without it and it wasn't as wonderful as I hoped.

But back to normal today, I'm not letting one meal spoil all my effort in the 20 other meals of my week. And I'm kind of looking forward to a normal BSD day.

KTD27 · 17/06/2017 12:50

Thanks for the ideas - think I might keep it simple with roast chicken. I can do celeariac mash and some lovely roast broccoli and other veg. Yum.
Also had a weigh in this morning. 10lbs! 😳 Won't trust it until after the weekend has gone but blimey! I can absolutely feel the difference in my mum Tum so if nothing else I am
Happy with that.

LostSight · 17/06/2017 13:15

Currently on day five and feeling fuzzy headed. I see a mention of lightheadedness in the first week upthread. Had lunch with a friend yesterday and had a slice of bread and that was the first day I struggled. Frustrated that I've gone up by about 0,3 kg, which I know is nothing really, but it's difficult.

Do most people here drink water? I am trying to stay off diet fizzy drinks, but it's difficult.

I hope it's okay just to jump in here.

KTD27 · 17/06/2017 13:19

Hi lostsight. I have definitely felt light headed this week. On day 6 here and I'm still getting bits through the day. Maybe less? Hard to know as it's SO HOT!

LostSight · 17/06/2017 13:25

Hot here too. I've not managed the exercise bits properly at all this week.

LostSight · 17/06/2017 13:27

Wow KTD27. Just seen you've lost 10lb. That's fabulous.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/06/2017 13:43

KT wow, 10lbs is amazing. Makes it worthwhile doesn't it?

Lostsight lightheadedness could be due to low salt levels especially in this heat. I also find that when I'm on plan I get this sort of energy surge, coffee seems to hit me harder than usual and sometimes I can almost feel my metabolism ramping up which can make me a bit lightheaded.

Flibbertyjibbit · 17/06/2017 14:11

Wow - congrats on the massive loss KTD

End of week 3 for me - I've lost 3lb this week but all of that was last weekend, have stayed the same all week. I've average 700cals a day so rather annoyed but I haven't measured my waist so hoping I've lost cm to make up for it.

Just collapsed on sofa after busy morning. Going to sit & read my book. I would usually sit here munching snacks while reading but I'm glad the BSD has rid me of my snacking habit.

I'm only drinking still water, tea & coffee. I am missing my elderflower cordial but its doable with out it. My DP doesn't like tap water, we buy him the 2L sparkling water bottles which he finds more drinkable without squash, not that he is doing BSD but trying to cut out fizzy drinks. They are 20p in sainsburies for 2L - might be worth trying lost?

Flightywoman · 17/06/2017 14:52

Welcome Lost. I drink tea, black coffee, herbal tea and plain water - I tend to fall down on water when at home though my husband makes tea at regular intervals, but at work I've bought myself a nice glass with a lid and straw to encourage me to drink more!

Well done KTD, that's great! I think chicken is the easiest option, it's what I would choose to do if it was me!

Flightywoman · 17/06/2017 17:48

Oh, I had a NSV today! I put on a dress I've not been able to wear for 2 years and it fits and is comfortable and looks good. I'm pleased with that.

LostSight · 17/06/2017 18:28

That must be a great feeling Flightywoman.

What is a NSV please?

LostSight · 17/06/2017 18:30

And thanks very much bear and Flibberty for the information. It does help.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/06/2017 18:42

Lost nsv = non scale victory (eg something other than weightloss as a result of the plan)

I've somehow consumed 40g carb today, still ok on calories at 781 for the day, but its sneaky how it creeps up. Few too many cherry tomatoes in my salad for dinner! Hope it doesn't set me back to much. Is anyone else tracking carbs on myfitnesspal? My average till today has been 23g carb/day.

Congrats on the NSV Flighty

PinkBlossomTree · 17/06/2017 20:12

I track carbs too Fibberty, nearly everyday I end on 22g despite eating different foods. It's strange.

Drinks wise I used to drink diluted squash but can't stand that now so I drink flavoured sparkling water, coffee and green tea.

ShutUpLegs · 17/06/2017 20:43

Joining in at the back _ i am on day 6 and haven't drunk alcohol since starting. It smy longest dry spell for 2 years.

Finding it ok most of the time but am getting the odd bouts of faintness/energy-drain. Weeing for England!

I did a 24mile bike ride last night and faded suddenly and badly about 5 miles from home so I think I will need to eat for exercise - but my protein bar at the halfway mark has never tasted SO good!

I find 5:2 (coupled with a skinny Mon-Fri, looser weekend approach) does actually maintain for me - but I need to shift this extra 1.5 stone that has been around for the last 3 years. Hence BSD now for the remaining weeks until we go away.

Won't know how week 1 has gone until Monday morning...
