Blood sugar diet thread 7

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Welllllllll, food was good today until about 4pm. Same as every single day recently, I find myself scouting the cupboards for something carby and end up eating shit loads of rubbish. Feeling really pissed off with myself, but then I'm bloody knackered, the kids are exhausting even when they're good. we couldn't go out today because we were waiting in for an electrician. Ds still awake now, getting out of bed over and over again. I could just cry with the frustration of it all. And then knowing that I will be woken at least twice in the night, and be up at 6 to do it all over again. I cannot wait until school is back.

I'm in 2 minds to just accept that it's not happening over the holidays and just bow out for 2 weeks rather than keep falling off the wagon and beating myself up, or whether to just keep doing what I'm doing and trying but not succeeding, on the chance that one day i might not screw up. I feel really bored of it- the food, the lack of routine, the Groundhog Day-ness of it all...... Probably just tired and hormonal so sorry to be such a boohoo Betty!!

It is interesting that weight loss advice is relatively unchanged - just packaged differently over the years.
I was watching The Devil Wears Prada and laughed when Emily Blunt's character mocked Anne Hathaway's by saying 'You eat carbs for God's sake!'
Strictclub here has been more like stressclub - lots of minor crises so far this week which meant I ate hardly anything yesterday (about 400 cals) and then made up for it today (about 1050 cals). I guess it balances out overall.

yumyumpoppycat · 22/08/2017 21:08

Bear and Aplace I think that's the thing we might gain a bit but its not creeping up constantly without us realising. When the time is right it will all fall into place and we are doing our best until then. I wish we could eat what the fuck we wanted though. There is a thread on here about 300 cals. That is all the extra cals the average overweight person eats. The thread is interesting for how much people eat JUST to maintain. It is no wonder we struggle.

yumyumpoppycat · 22/08/2017 21:09

I should rephrase that to how little people eat.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/08/2017 21:18

Yumyum I agree re: 300 calories.

Let's say I'm 12.0 st for sake of argument, which is probably 2 stone over my skinny weight.
So 2 stone = 28lbs of fat
28lbs fat = 98,000 cals

I'm 34, so say my adult life began at 21 , that's 13 years. I must have consumed 7550 (approx) extra calories a year.

629 extra calories a month. That's not even a piece of cake. That's 2 measly double deckers. That's not even a mcD's happy meal.

I categorically and unequivocally deserve to be thin. It's not fair.

Bear 4pm is a hard one. Especially if you cook an early tea for small children. I've been know to polish off their leftovers to such an extent I almost ate an extra meal.

Interesting re 300 calories. Despite the above paragraph I often feel I don't eat that much more than thin people so 300 calories makes a lot of sense. It could just be me having a terrible habit of wanting something sweet in the evening after dinner.

Anyway, I've stuck to the allowance today.

Flightywoman · 22/08/2017 23:29

First day of strict-ish club. I've done ok but I am over - it's way less than the preceding 3 weeks though and will do for today!

Nomoocluck · 22/08/2017 23:31

I can pin point my weight gain to when I graduated and started earning my own money. I would often buy a slice of cream cake or pastry for a treat in the evenings after work, and it's a habit that carried on for the next 10 years until very recently. That's probably 300-400 extra calories a day, and about 1.5 stone extra that I'm finally trying to shift.

Flightywoman · 23/08/2017 08:04

Strict club is working. 2lbs gone already!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/08/2017 08:21

My weight gain happened after DS was born. I was breastfeeding and the HV kept telling me to eat more dairy and an additional 500 cals per day.
With hindsight, I didn't need an extra 500 cals because she never asked how many cals I was already eating.

FizzPopping · 23/08/2017 09:16

Morning all!

Can I also join strict club? I have finished my 8 weeks and managed to hit 2 stone lost by my final weigh in which I'm pleased with and have decided to carry on until the 12 week mark however I'm now 2lb up following a carby meal out with family on Sunday and it's not shifted. I need to watch my portion sizes, what I've eaten is ok the last couple of days but a bit too much of it. Think I should also go back to writing everything down instead of guestimating - I need a bit more discipline really!

That's really interesting about the 300 calories, I do look at what others eat and think I don't deserve to be so much heavier than them!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/08/2017 10:29

Oops - I forgot my strictclub WI: 2.8lbs lost since I started last Monday. So I've now lost 4.8lbs since I came back from my holiday (where I put on 4lbs) so 0.8lbs down on my pre-holiday weight.
Hurrah for strictclub!

JigglyTuff · 23/08/2017 20:18

I put on no weight on my holiday Shock

I did do quite a lot of exercise, ate no breakfast and tried (largely) to stick to plan but there was (and still is) wine.

SpaghettiAlphabetti · 23/08/2017 20:51

That's good going jiggly

bear that could have been me when everyone had tea and Jammie Dodgers in the office!

Going to close on 935 today as DH bought a Bournville bar home and I've shared it with him.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 24/08/2017 07:24

bear brilliant pic Grin
Jiggly excellent result! You must have got the balance of food, exercise and wine exactly right.something that completely eludes me on holiday

yumyumpoppycat · 24/08/2017 07:53

Well done jiggly!

I haven't even been on holiday and have gained 2lbs mon - wed. The kids have been having a UK hol with my mum and sister so I can work. I haven't been crazy and exercised and did 16:8 yest until lunch and no snacks after 8:00 but there has been wine (1 bottle over 3 days), and filled dark chocolates which weren't even that nice.

I think I need to start measuring and being really careful with MFP for a bit so I can figure out what how many cals I can eat to maintain and also if sugar makes a difference.

yumyumpoppycat · 24/08/2017 07:55

Sorry for the Me Me Mega moan Blush

Aplace that is brilliant about your hol gain nearly off and 2 lbs is excellent flighty.

Well done on the 900 day Spaghetti.

Flightywoman · 24/08/2017 12:13

Well done holidayers and strict clubbers!

Another 1lb off this morning, YAY! I'm not hitting 800 yet, but the return to control is good and it's working.

I'm hoping that the end of the month will see me close to a total of 2-2.5 stone since May. Fingers crossed eh!!

HourglassTigger · 24/08/2017 12:18

Please may I join you?

Bit awkward - many of you feel very familiar,as I have been lurking here for 18 months-ish.

I spent a happy, healthy and spectacularly sheddy spring and summer 2016 - courtesy of BSD and these threads. Yet somehow nursed some nonsense in my head that I would sabotage things by making any declaration of commitment out loud (tf's that about?) So instead I stalked daily as a peevish lurker. Well that worked out well for me!

So, bearing in mind that adage "the definition of stupid is repeating the same behaviours over and over expecting different results", I am now going for it with a bit more gumption - starting by piping up. First to say a massive THANKS Y'ALL' for the insights, shared confidences, and encouragement that have kept these threads thriving. 'Visiting' has always provided hope, a reminder that this way of eating worked for me, was not a trial, or a penance; that within days I felt more confident, tangibly healthier, sleeping better and liberated from all consuming food fixation. It was so EASY.

Looking at what I just burbled ... does beg the question "err so why didn't you keep it up then" ?

A luminous future as a Gazillionnaire, dripping with Nobels, knighthoods and surely canonization awaits the solver of that conundrum.

Meantime. I have to make this work. (I don't have budget for surgery and I'm GP averse in my current form). Its back to BSD for me.

There, I said it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/08/2017 14:13

Welcome tigger. I think we could all ask ourselves 'why didn't you keep it up then?' and get no answer except tumbleweed billowing across.....!

I'm just ticking along today. Food on plan but not calorie counting. Think that will be my strategy until after the weekend at least, just to keep my eye on the ball so to speak. We have a big boozy night out on Saturday so I may as well accept that I will not be on plan! But that's the last thing of the summer.

Having one of those brilliant 'getting stuff done' days today. Loads of little jobs that have been hanging around for ages, gradually ticking them off one by one. Feels very proactive. Also, Dh and I have decided to buy a treadmill, so have been clearing space for that to go in the utility room. I really hope that having it in my house will make me find 20 minutes a day to use it! Dh will use it which will hopefully motivate me to use it too.

Welcome from the shadows Tigger Grin Glad you are posting!

Exciting about treadmill Bear - you could do some HIIT or set up the laptop and watch Netflix while exercising which is what I would like to do

Flighty that's brilliant the lbs are falling off you Grin

Pretty good day for me, not perfect but my cals are up and I am not sure if I will fast or go a bit higher. Had poached eggs, baby leaves and low carb toast, chicken salad for lunch and a slight cheat of one of those digestive thins.

SpaghettiAlphabetti · 24/08/2017 16:47

Hello Tigger!

Bear what about Couch to 5km on your treadmill? I'm doing that at the moment. Well, I've done the first two weeks of it!

Been to the gym today so hoping to be rewarded for that on the scales. I've planned my food for the rest of the day and should end on 959.

I had 35g of cheese in an omelette with salad for lunch hence the calorie hike.

I've got guests arriving tomorrow. Not sure how well I will stick to everything then.

Oblomov17 · 24/08/2017 16:57

Starving. Have just wolfed down a big courgetti for dinner.
