Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

strict club fail for me today cals 1100 and carbs 60 so not totally awful.

I keep screwing up by having a good start (smoked mackerel and lots of veg for breakfast) but all cals used up after lunch out with kids (mcdonalds latte and Grilled chicken wrap).

Welcome bluseky

Good luck mini tobee

Your lunch sounds delish Aplace and I am def an avocado convert now.

Glad it's getting easier Hammy

Flibbertyjibbit · 15/08/2017 16:52

Oh I'm interested to see recent posts mentioning 60g carbs. On my round 1 I was averaging 30g a day. But so far on round 2 week 2 it's more like 50-60g carbs a day. Was worried this was too high? I've averaged 700-900 cals a day so far.

Anyone skipping lunch? I feel fine and am drinking lots of water. Previously I would IF until about 1pm, but the last couple of weeks I've been having a small bowl of raspberries and greek yog for breakfast with a coffee. Then not eating again till dinner at 6pm. Means I can have a bigger evening meal of approx 500 cals which is a lot easier to plan.

Welcome bluesky

Good luck Queen I love cheese and yoghurt way too much to even attempt being a vegan.

churchilllounge · 15/08/2017 17:10

I'm tending to have breakfast and dinner and skip lunch but I need a big breakfast. Usually porridge and but butter, fry up or something egg based.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/08/2017 17:37

I had breakfast today but I don't usually. I'm just weaning myself out of holiday mode.

Strict club ok today, except I had to rescue Ds from a giant ice cream catastrophe as he had licked one side and was about to lose it off the other. I feel I took one for the team there.

Just had a really simple curry/korma with chicken, mushrooms, korma powder and coconut milk. Served it With roasted cauliflower which was surprisingly tasty actually. I'll have gone over on cals when I tot up though as I'd forgotten I had avocado with my lunch.

Welcome newbies! Good luck tobee!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm a bit Grinat the mini tobee when I look across at this great big bloke with stubble taking up all the sofa!! Fortunately stress makes me have no appetite.

blueskyinmarch · 15/08/2017 18:42

I have had 945 cals and 79g of carbs. I am happy with that. I am really using the BSD as a template to change my earning habits and I am not hung up on following it to the letter.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/08/2017 19:25

I'm finishing on around 1100 and 30g carbs. That's with a guestimate for the ice cream and a few other bits I'd forgotten. Plus a few nuts after dinner (although I didn't have any yogurt for the first time in a long while so that's positive)

Adding a new rule into strict week for me: write it down when you eat it!!!!!

Does anyone else have an 'allowed but not allowed' list? I mean various things that you technically can have but just can't be trusted with? Mine consists of nuts, full fat Greek yogurt, plus a few other things. I really shouldn't buy them and when I do I always regret it......I'm hoping that the stark contrast between this week and last week will override the extra calories!

OP posts:
blueskyinmarch · 15/08/2017 19:49

My eating habits not my earning habits!

I think nuts are on my danger list too. I can binge them easily. I opened a pack of cashews tonight to add some to my stir fry and now they are calling to me! Oh, and also cheddar cheese. I love it and can eat it in massive chunks.

No wonder I am fat!

tobee · 15/08/2017 20:00

Nuts are very tricky. I used to scoff them while cooking dinner (salty too so you need a drink!) then I would feel full. And I didn't really have much room for dinner. But I'd cooked it and ate it too. I love full fat yoghurt too. Especially fage.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/08/2017 20:07

I can't afford to be addicted to fage, it's bloody expensive! Yes yo the cheese too, although only slices. The block is safe. Those slices of Edam are just yummy (but 80-100 cals each depending on which shop). It's no wonder I'm fat either! But then 3 crappy squares of dairy milk are 100 cals too and at least the cheese is good for us!

on week 10 here (7 if you discount the 3 weeks where I went crazily off plan and stopped tracking). Have lost 12 pounds so far and back to the weight I was before I went off plan.

Am thinking of giving this another 3 weeks and then evaluating if I want to take a break or carry on till I hit my target. I've got another 9 pounds to go.

I've swapped to fat free greek yoghurt actually as the protein content and carb was comparable to full fat but I could have more. Doesn't taste as good but ts all about the quantity for me Blush

QueenofHibernia · 15/08/2017 22:28

Finished at 947. A bit high for day 2, but I was at a family party so I don't think that's too bad.

I found the hunger easier than I thought, didn't eat until four pm. I'm not a natural grazer, once I start eating I find it hard to stop Hmm .

I hadn't thought of tempeh! I'll give that a try. I'm about 90% vegan, completely vegetarian. Occasionally I succumb to goats cheese, eggs or QUICHE!!! Grin

Oblomov17 · 16/08/2017 07:31

Well, my first 2 days of strict club isn't going well. I rushed ds1 to GP with a holiday-constant jumping in pool - ear infection and forgot to eat, then ate a picnic chocolate bar in Sainsbury's whilst doing shop. Got home and then ate the salad and kebabs left over from Sunday.

But why didn't I eat that before? Then I wouldn't have eaten the chocolate?

Yesterday went to see my mum, then my sil - ate haddock risotto prepared for me then pizza.

1400 both days. Will have to think again!

churchilllounge · 16/08/2017 07:35

Can you go longer than 12 weeks? My target weight would take 14 weeks?

blueskyinmarch · 16/08/2017 12:33

I am 3 days in and today i feel bone achingly exhausted. I am not sleeping well and waking very early due to hunger. Please tell me this will pass?

QueenofHibernia · 16/08/2017 12:51

Sorry to hear that bluesky. I'm on day 3 and woke up with a headache, so maybe it's normal?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/08/2017 13:15

You might need to increase your salt intake if you're getting headaches. Drink bovril or just add a bit of salt to your food. It could just be the detox and you just have to get through it but it can be quite debilitating.

yumyumpoppycat · 16/08/2017 19:02

I think tiredness should pass I get that too for a couple of days and end up taking a nap. It happens when I do any low carb even without cal restriction.

Oblomov I am so with you - it is extra hard on hol. We are off with the kids this week but not going away (not really going away this hol bar two nights) so having days out - legoland today and I actually had a superfood salad! Still over on cals by 300 and having to skip dinner without having eaten any ice cream or anything!

QueenofHibernia · 16/08/2017 20:14

Closed the kitchen today on 924. Still too high but my carbs were 78g which is an improvement - 58g if you subtract fibre.

Hope you're feeling better bluesky, Flowers.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/08/2017 23:25

790 cals and 60g carbs. I am nowhere near the fibre target. I'm going to have to menu-plan to increase my fibre intake.

Nomoocluck · 16/08/2017 23:32

How are you tracking fibre APlace? My MFP has carbs but no fibre count on it.

I find I am always way over on the carbs. I just can't find the willpower to not have at least a biscuit!

Otherwise everything else is on plan, just the carb count.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 17/08/2017 00:01

I use the health app on Samsung NoMoo . It includes carbs, dairy, protein, fibre, etc. I like it better than MFP because it gives me a weekly report where it collates averages and it automatically logs steps. Although it's not entirely accurate with its step counting Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 17/08/2017 08:30

if you look at the end of your diary on MFP there is a button for Nutrition, then tabs for calories nutrients and Macros and the Nutrients includes fibre and other things like sodium.

Aplace it is possible the fibre hasn't been logged for some of the foods you are adding? Also we are having half the calories so actually 7g is technically ok.

Broccoli is quite good in terms of fibre and calories. Raspberries is best of the berries I think. Here is a list www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/fitness/what-is-the-flat-belly-diet-and-why-is-everyone-obsessed-with-it.html

yumyumpoppycat · 17/08/2017 08:35

Sorry 12g not 7g - 12g is tricky on 800 without planning. Where did I get 7 from!
