Keep on going though bear. Doing something most of the time is better than doing nothing all of the time, no??

Oblomov17 · 10/06/2017 20:55

YumYum Welcome back!!!

Tobee please don't be afraid to ask anything here. You don't need to worry about 'wording it correctly'. We are all very down to earth here, and don't take offence at anything!!

It's a very valid question. We all have different stories of why we are here, how long we've been here for and why done of us have mucked up views on food and diets etc.

1 I have been here from the start, for 1.5 years. but I never did the 800 completely strictly, when I did it, starting New Year's Day, not this year, but the year before. But loads of others did it religiously and I remember feeling slightly ashamed, when I posted that I'd eaten some crisps, or drunk yet another glass of wine.

Although I was very strict sometimes. So lost 1 and 3/4 stone.

But I've continued, partly because the low carb really helps my type 1 diabetes blood sugars. Plus I still have another 3/4 stone to lose. I never did hit my ideal weight.

But I had never dieted before in my life. Or once I did, but failed because I kept having to drink lucozade and eat chocolate when I went diabetically low. And thus when I did, I know realise it refuelled my desire for carbs, so later that day, I'd drink 1/2 a bottle of wine and eat 3 packets of crisps!!

Even now I 'cheat' as it were. I go out with friends and drink tonnes and eat all the bad bits. But the difference is I don't now see it as cheating. I don't see it negatively. Or I suppose I do. But I just think oh well. And then the next day I get 'back on the programme', or try and 'be strict' for a few days. And I feel fine about that.

And sometimes I fall off the wagon for a bit, I relax too much, for weeks. But then I come back to the thread.

So, in answer to your question, is it restrictive? Well some people, on the last 6 threads, certainly have managed to do it religiously for the 8 weeks. And they never waivered once in the 8 weeks.

Not me!! Wink but some have managed it!!

Has anyone managed to maintain it long term? Err no. I don't think so. Everyone 'cheats' at some point. Mind you MM says it's not supposed to be a long term thing.
Even he admits that he did it for 8 weeks, but now when he realises his trousers are too tight, i.e. Even he has put on a few pounds, so he must have relaxed too much, he then goes strict for a bit.

But I guess, the difference is, I see carbs differently now. I will never go back to the way I ate before. I couldn't even if I wanted to, because by doing this. My mindset has now changed and it can't be changed back.

Does that make sense?

Oh and you all know I love food pictures. Please post as many of your pictures of food as you can. Because I like it and it motivates me. So here's mine: dinner tonight: burger, cheese, onions, and salad. There are 2 burgers on my plate, but I only ate one!!!

Ok am struggling quite badly with feeling hungry. It's day 5 for me and I've been rough all day but even after dinner my tummy is audibly rumbling. I have drunk loads and loads and don't want another big drink this close to bed time as I'm already getting up to wee in the night which I never normally do.

I'm on 850 cals. Think I'm going to have to have something. Perhaps a slice of the livlife and butter. Would go up to 950 but still be under carbs.

Interestingly today I didn't have eggs. I wanted a day without them but definitely didnt feel as satiated.

yumyumpoppycat · 10/06/2017 23:17

Thank you Oblomov Grin - your salad and burgers look delish!

Phyllis I am very interested in this livlife bread - under on carbs, and cals under 1000, and with bread included {faints} some days just seem tougher than others - hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

Newaverage I am similar, once I start eating certain things its hard to stop - I know I should cut them out but I don't want to stop eating these things altogether.

Ojoj1974 · 10/06/2017 23:21

Week 1, Day 6 and I've lost 9lbs. I'm totally thrilled!!
I have A LONG way to go but I'm feeling really energised, headaches have gone, loving the food.

I have only used the recipes in the back of the Book.

DH is eating 2 snacks a day as he couldn't function on 800cal but he has also lost the same amount of weight as me!

Ojoj1974 · 10/06/2017 23:23

I have one question.
If I want to buy lunch out or make up my own recipes what are the main criteria? Obviously sugar free, low carb but should I be looking at anything specific carb, protein, fibre wise?

Ojoj1974 · 10/06/2017 23:26

If you use My Fitness pal what are you nutrient levels set for with regard to
Protein
Carbs
Fats
Fibre
Etc I think mine are all wrong

tobee · 10/06/2017 23:52

Thanks for all the considered and interesting replies to my question everyone! Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 10/06/2017 23:53

Oj well done on the 9lbs!!! Sounds like you don't need to worry to much about macros tbh!

If you do want to monitor macros - lot of people on here aim for under 50g carbs. When cals are set at 800, 25% carbs would be 50g. You then adjust fat and protein percentage to bring the total to 100% - carbs is the one to monitor really as it would be very hard to overeat protein on 800 cals. I might set mine at 20% carbs (40g), 45% fat (40g), 35% protein (70g) - but I don't think I am ever every close to my macros tbh. The lower cals makes eating lots of fiber hard to achieve - 15g is more doable.

LostSight · 11/06/2017 09:35

I bought the book yesterday and have read it. I think I'm ready - start tomorrow morning. Any special recommendations please?

PinkBlossomTree · 11/06/2017 10:06

Amazing 9lbs loss Ojo. Well done.

Tobee - I agree that it is restricted aswell. It's mentally and physically tough. I get thoughts most days about off plan food. But the results are amazing.

I see it in a same way as 5:2. now I've never really tracked calories but say 2000 for women.

Over a week that's 14,000 cals

This at 800 is only 5,600 cals so obviously a huge reduction even if your up near 1000 most days it's still a huge calorie deficit and you will loose.

The amount of times I've heard people say they can't understand how it's possible to loose on 5:2 but again it's just because of the calorie deficit.

So yes I agree it's restricted, but even if you loosely follow the plan you should still loose weight and also I think it's done in a healthy way where you learn about food, portions and calories rather than something like slimming world where your told to eat what you like but not control portions or track calories.

But I'm a big fan of MM and think his diets are fab.

Nomoocluck · 11/06/2017 11:17

That's amazing Ojo! I think I started at the same time as you did. Day 7 today and have lost 5.5 lb so far. Very pleased with that. I can actually see my love handles getting smaller Grin

Just spent the last 2 hours on a cooking spree. Lunch will be veg and lentil soup, dinner is pesto chicken with baked veg. Have made broccoli bread to go with the soup, will see how it tastes.

Tried doing some HIIT this morning before breakfast, couldn't finish it as felt too tired. I think I need some fuel in me before exercising.

Perdyboo · 11/06/2017 15:10

Great weightlosses nomoo and ojo!!
Two things: do you lot pay the subscription on mfp for the premier?? And secondly, sat doing some work (on a sunday....) drinking black coffee and thought, ooh I fancy an apple. Calories wise am grand for it but Shock how many carbs?!!

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/06/2017 16:08

Congrats on the losses nomoo and ojoj.

I haven't subscribed to premier mfp - thought about it a few times but it's quite pricey. The free version seems to be ok for tracking carbs & calories.

I haven't had an apple or pear yet on BSD - might try the apple porridge in week 6.

Exciting news - popped into tesco's to get coconut flour never thought I would get excited over flour! and discovered tesco does a tesco finest high protein loaf of bread for 80p, it's 10g carbs per slice, so higher than the livlife bread but the slice is bigger than the livlife. Do you think one slice for breakfast very occasionally would be ok? Didn't buy it today but might go back next weekend to get a loaf to try.

Weighed in again today, finally over the stone mark -15.5lbs lost in 16days.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/06/2017 16:11

I popped into tesco too flibberty, and found these. Still relatively high cal but lowish carbs so I might have them with stir fry tonight. I've barely eaten today, I am feeling a bit woozy! I also got some avocado for 8p and done butternut squash sheets for 15p so it's smoothie time and lasagne tomorrow!

I've had a funny couple of days as we've been eating up lots of meat after a freezer catastrophe and I've probably had way too much. I thought that would factor in for a stealth weigh in this morning and find I've still lost a pound since Thursday! Hmm. Been doing lots of 😱😳🤔at the scales since starting this diet. Grin

Perdyboo · 11/06/2017 17:04

Well done flibberty!! I don't think I'm going to buy either, but am I right that in the free version you only see the carbs when you are inputting because it adds the calories?? Newbear, let us know about your lasagne - have never heard of squash sheets before but they sound like they might be yum!!
Tobee, we may be making the same faces!!

PhyllisWig · 11/06/2017 19:03

What are the oomi noodles like? I hate slim noodles - they taste rubbery and plastically whenever I've tried them and I LOVE noodles so if there is a good alternative I'd love to find it

PhyllisWig · 11/06/2017 20:07

Well done everyone on some fab losses.

Much better day today. DH made me an omelette (they are one of the few things he cooks better than me) and it was lovely. I felt more energised and walked all day and did a yoga practice so nicely but gently active. I may attempt a hiit tomorrow!

I also had massive temptation to deal with - cake, macaroni cheese and chocolate all featured in my house today (I cooked the mac n cheese) but I was resolute!

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/06/2017 20:41

If you click on nutrition box at bottom of daily food diary, it takes you to 3 tabs, calories, nutrients and macros. The macros page will give you your daily breakdown of carbs, fat and protein. I find the free version gives me everything I need.

Glad to hear you've had a better day Phyllis.

I've had a very sneaky splash of white wine tonight, only a few sips but I need it!

Blood sugar diet thread 6
thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/06/2017 21:09

Phyllis they were lovely, just exactly like real noodles. I only had half of half the pack, they were quite high cals, and they aren't vegetarian friendly (as they are made of fish protein I read that quickly and then erased it immediately from my brain as it sounds rank ) I'd highly recommend, they were in the fresh noodle and pre-prepped stir fry section in tesco.

Sorted, flibberty you is a Star

Perdyboo · 11/06/2017 21:55

Gosh, I think tinkering with nutrient levels might be my new obsession!!!

Oblomov17 · 12/06/2017 07:35

I am so angry. AngryAnd sad. Sad

No loss. In a week. Where I fasted. Had nothing but courgetti and meatballs and salads?

I had a biscuit and a hot chocolate mid week, and wine Friday night.

But god, I tried really hard.

And I've only got 5 days until ds2's Holy Communion.

I'm pissed off now.

PinkBlossomTree · 12/06/2017 07:48

What week are you on oblo? Have you done your measurements as you may have well lost inches?

Week 4 weigh in: 0.8 lbs lost this week. Since my night off plan despite going back on Saturday I've actually gained weight each day.

I'm going to do measurements later and see what's happening there.

Bear those noodles look and sound great.
