I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

I am certainly less hungry but sadly not energised lol. My office is up two measly flights of stairs and today I've had to stop every time for a breather, as my legs just have nothing in them!

Tonight I've decided that as Weds morning weighing is going to be a faff (I leave mega early, and as the scales have to be just so in the right spot middle of landing ) I risk waking up the whole house. So I'm going to do my first WI tomorrow, a day early. I'm unspeakably nervous about this.

officerhinrika · 07/06/2016 01:49

I've just restarted this yesterday so can I join? I did it for about 3 weeks properly and a week or so badly in April and lost a stone. I then fell off the waggon and have only just got it together to start again. It was really easy to do first time round so I'm hoping for the best.
Today I got to 850 - 900 calories, sheeps milk yoghurt and frozen raspberries for breakfast ,smoked fish, spinach and mushrooms with butter for dinner. I missed lunch so later had some smoked hummus and vegetable sticks. I always count in 500ml of skimmed milk for teas / coffees too. I use my fitness pal to record.
I've got a large amount to lose, mostly gained through illness and it seems overwhelming when going the 2lb per week slow and steady route. This way quick results at the beginning give you a bit of hope!

ICJump · 07/06/2016 03:54

So I stuffed up majorly last night. I did well all day and then a perfect storm of non sleeping 18 month old and a sick OH.

So today is a new day.

B: yoghurt, passionfruit walnuts
L: lamb soup ( homemade but not sure how to count the calories in it)

SaltySeaBird · 07/06/2016 04:41

Watching with interest. I've brought the book, I'm T2 diabetic and currently overweight. I also have a 10 week old and I'm breastfeeding so don't want to screw up my supply by dramatically cutting calories so not sure I can start yet.

I suffer from lack of breakfast and lunch planning so tend to binge snack about 6pm before dinner. I also suffer from lack of breakfast ideas as I'm not mad on eggs so this thread has lots of great ideas thanks!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/06/2016 06:48

officer 500ml of milk?! Good grief that's a lot of tea! I do a milk allowance of 100ml, that does me two coffees of three if I'm stingy!
salty not sure about if you're breastfeeding, but if you don't calorie count but aim for sugar free/low carbs then you will probably lose. I would check the BSD website for information about this because it might not be recommended. Regarding breakfast, I often just have slices of ham, few nuts, piece of cheese if I'm not in the mood for eggs.
anyway, morning everyone! Another lb off for me today, after 2 good days at 900 ish cals. Going for a walk this morning and then coming back to do a bit of cooking, didn't manage it last night, but need some freezer meals.

Sprog19 · 07/06/2016 07:16

Morning all! First day yesterday, had no breakfast, nuts and apple for mid morning snack, jewelled pepper salad from BSD book for lunch, gingered pork stir fry from the BSD book for dinner, a Freddo bar and 4 plain oatcakes. ( evenings are my downfall). Weighed 14.2 in my pjs yesterday morning, 13.13 this morning naked. Will do one or the other consistently from now on.

Going to be more difficult today as have to work from an Internet cafe...

GoatyGoatFace · 07/06/2016 07:41

Morning all, please may I join?! I did a couple of really strict weeks a while back and lost nearly a stone but more importantly my IBS cleared right up. I said I'd never slip back and yet here I am, weight creeping on and IBS starting to flare up. I need to do at least 2 weeks preferably 4 strictly to get things under control then try and find a way to maintain without too many bad habits. Some great recipe ideas here, I'll add what I eat as I go. Am probably going to use mfp to help keep myself in line.

Evenings are also my downfall sprog! Good luck with for a good day today everyone!

LolBeansandSalad · 07/06/2016 07:51

Morning

Okay six days in...3lb off. So not the half a stone I was secretly hoping for then Grin

Never mind, it's the right direction and it does at least take me down into the next stone bracket which is a bit of a psychological boost. Pretty happy

Have a good day all!

GoatyGoatFace · 07/06/2016 09:15

Well done lol! Are you feeling better generally? I found that I really did and am looking forward to that again!

GraceGildee · 07/06/2016 09:44

Morning all, welcome to everyone just joining. officerhinrika I'm also using MFP although it tells me off every day for not eating 1000 calories. ICjump every day can be a new start, a non sleeping little one and poorly OH is a very tough combination. SaltySeaBird I loathe eggs, the smell, taste and texture. I'm trying to be organised by writing down 7 breakfasts, lunches and dinners and doing my online shop around that. Morning bear and well done on another lb off! Welcome Sprog19 and good luck resisting the cafe snacks. Goaty I also have IBS, constipation related so I'm hammering the flaxseed. Lol that's brilliant, well done!

Me, I've not slept well (teenager stress, too hot, hot flushes) but not feeling too bad and having a late breakfast in a bit. I feel like there is a bit less of me and I can't stop weeing. Hoping the chemist has my test strips today so I can check my sugars. Hate being menopausal in this weather!

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 07/06/2016 09:46

Still haven't bought the book - no time to go to the shops 😬
From this thread though I am going to try
Greek yoghurt, berries and few nuts for brekkie
Grilled mushroom & mozzarella thing of graces above for lunch
Aubergine, lamb & feta bake I saw in the paper (an article about the diet on the weekend) for tea.
???
What do you think?
The cauliflower /egg / cheese bake sounds nice, do you have to squeeze the water from the cauliflower? I'd imagine it'd be too wet otherwise?

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 07/06/2016 09:49

Hi grace I know what you mean I'm sleeping so badly at the moment, exh demands driving me mad!
That's a good idea about a 7 day meal plan, I'm going to try that today.
What are the test strips to check sugar? Wee sticks?

GraceGildee · 07/06/2016 09:59

Blood sugar testing, finger prick test Rainbows, I'm diabetic t2. I have a little meter that tests. Your food sounds great, I hope you can get the book as it does help so much, could you order online?

If you can't get to the shops rainbows you can download the book onto the Kindle app on your phone. Not quite as nice as flicking through the pages but handy to have to refer to whenever.

GraceGildee · 07/06/2016 12:24

Lunch (off work this week) half a lavash bread, tiny bit of tomato purée, three cherry tomatoes, about a quarter of a chicken breast, rocket and grated cheese. Baked for about ten minutes.

Grace that looks yummy. Trying to decide what to have for lunch, might be a quorn burger spinach & mushrooms. Yoghurt and frozen raspberries for breakfast again, it's so easy and I really like it.
Yes I do drink a lot of tea! I am home all day in my defence :)
Had my INR checked today, apparently eating lots more fruit and veg really affects it so will have to keep an eye on that.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/06/2016 15:42

officer I miss tea, haven't been able to stomach it since having extreme morning sickness with my last baby! Have you tried almond milk? I personally don't like it in hot drinks but a lot of people do and it could save you a lot of calories if you drink that much. I think a whole litre is only about 100 cals.
Haven't had many cals today so tonight's tea is a lamb steak with a stuffed mushroom or pepper (whichever needs eaten first!). I keep forgetting to photograph before I eat, will try to remember!

officerhinrika · 07/06/2016 15:50

Yes I tried almond milk and soy milk a while ago but am a creature a ingrained habit. I'd rather give up the calories and make sure of the tea, it's probably the one thing I really couldn't give up. I only have full caff tea twice in the morning with decaf the rest of the time, so not as bad as it sounds.

oldlaundbooth · 07/06/2016 15:53

Loving the pics OP, you are doing so well!!

Good luck Flowers

GraceGildee · 07/06/2016 16:14

I'm doing well because I'm making myself write it all down on here, it seems to be helping 😀 had a dairylea cheese strip and some celery for a snack, much better than a pack of Jaffa cakes.

GraceGildee · 07/06/2016 18:02

bear that looks great, I forgot about quinoa, must try some.

This was mine tonight, medallion steak with rocket salad. Made a sauce with mushrooms, a bit or red onion, added a bit of roasted broccoli from yesterday and some double cream. Was delicious. About 430 cals.

I didn't do very well today. BUT I limited myself to 1200 calories, when j was tempted to say 'fuck it I'll start tomorrow' and go on a binge. Hurrah.
