I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Thought I was stuffed but actually managed a bowl of Turkish yoghurt with a sprinkle of toasted almonds.

Great photos Grace, you've inspired me to start to take photos of my meals if I can wait for twenty seconds before devouring

Cocolepew · 05/06/2016 18:30

Im not doing this, but it seems interesting so Im here for a nosy Smile

GraceGildee · 05/06/2016 18:56

You're very welcome, cocolepew, and Lolbeans, your bbq sounds excellent. I hope I can lose at least a stone by the end of July and feel less blood sugary.

Hi, just place marking as I've popped over from the other thread. I was out drinking on Saturday and I've been to a bbq today and couldn't stick to the plan with my huge hangover. But tomorrow is another day and I will be back!

Sprog19 · 05/06/2016 22:03

Hi all, DH and I are starting a version of this tomorrow. We are doing three days a week of the Blood Sugar Diet and three of Patrick Holfords Low GI diet, with one day off. No idea if it will work. Both of us are overweight but DH has hypertension and I have a minor heart problem for which I take a beta blocker and ace inhibitor, so doing the blood sugar diet all week didn't seem like a good idea. Have planned menus for next week and am looking forward to it. My weight has crept up to almost 14 stone recently and I need to lose about 2 stone to get back to my normal weight ( I'm quite tall). DH probably needs to lose more like 3 stone.

So starting today. I'm breastfeeding so I'm allowing myself up to 1200 calories a day but aiming for under 1000.
B yoghurt with blueberries and coffee

Stellar67 · 06/06/2016 09:15

Hello all. I've ordered the book and been trying (unsuccessfully) to avoid bread and pasta on advice from dr.
Thanks for the meal ideas lolbeans.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 09:31

Morning everyone, off out for the day with my boys so have packed a big picnic of chicken drumsticks, chunks of cucumber, cherry toms, hummus, and carrot sticks. Off to the woods to get some shade from the sun!

Wheresthattomoibabber · 06/06/2016 09:44

Ok I'm in. Starting today. 15'6.5 on the scales this morning. Am off work this week which should make things easier. Hopefully can get a bit organised. 6 weeks and 5 days til my holiday!

LongChalk · 06/06/2016 10:13

I've lost weight but I'm struggling to maintain due to be late 40s and peri menopausal. Great ideas so far!

GraceGildee · 06/06/2016 11:07

Morning all, welcome everyone. Breakfast was two portobello mushrooms baked in the oven, then added a quarter can of low sugar baked beans and 50g mozzarella and baked a bit more. Look at this bad boy, 200 cals or thereabouts. I am 2.5lbs down. 😮

More food! Lunch was one little gem lettuce with a chopped chicken breast and some chopped apple. Dressing was mayo and a dash of sweet chilli sauce. Around 200cal.

Dinner. This is half a packet of frozen fish pie mix, lots of brocolli roasted with spices, some stir fried cavalo nero and a tin of chopped tomatoes. I added olives and noodles to my husbands plate. This was only 285 cals so I'm going to have some blueberries and yoghurt later. Hope you're enjoying the food diary.

Hi folks, just popping over from the other thread. Do watch low sugar products everyone, MM (BSD) doesn't support sweetners, although stevia is permitted as it's natural. There's tonnes on the web about how sweeteners trick the brain into expecting sugar & do all sorts of crap to how we use calories/fat.

I use the BSD site for recipe ideas, there's lots of very tasty ones & that's where I found the gram flour flatbread recipe, I make them up, and freeze. They come in handy as 'pizza' bases..... All on-diet, but sounds naughty! Wink

GraceGildee · 06/06/2016 17:26

Hello H3l3naGraham, yes I try to avoid it- trying to wean myself off the Pepsi max though.
Here's my pud. Not very exciting but nice to have berries. Blueberries, flaxseed and natural yoghurt.

Hi everyone

Looks good Grace, and I love cavolo nero...

Well today's menu chez Lolbeans was a disgrace-

B- two boiled eggs
L - nowt
T - spicy baked beans (half a tin of normal baked beans with herbs and spices mixed in) and three chopped up hot dog sausages Hmm

Well under calories and even carbs (despite the beans) but nutritionally shit Blush

Will probably munch on some veg sticks later

GraceGildee · 06/06/2016 18:54

I wish I liked eggs, it would make mornings much easier. Are you feeling hungry, Lolbeans? Could you have some cheese and salad or don't you feel like eating?

810 for me today :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 19:16

Breakfast: coffee +100ml milk (divided over 2 coffees)
Lunch: picnic lunch of chicken drumstick, cucumber, cherry toms and hummus
Dinner: mixed salad, beetroot, sliced ham, 30g cheese. Pud: 100g full fat Greek yog and 50g raspberries
I've had about 6 pints of water, 12000 steps, 950 cals, 35g carbs
Tonight I'm hoping to batch cook a few things, a 'bake' which is aubergine and tomato cooked with marscepone and feta and egg (I imagine like a crustless quiche?) But will be courgette instead as tesco had no aubergines. Also, something described in my low carb/high fat recipe book as mozzarella bread but it actually made of cauliflower and mozz and egg, baked and then cut up. I have 3 DC, so batch cooking and cal counting late at night is the way forward for me! I will post pictures if they look nice!

Cocolepew · 06/06/2016 19:19

Can I ask are there no sugar or sweetners on this diet?
What about fruit?
TIA Smile

LolBeansandSalad · 06/06/2016 20:19

I think sugar and sweeteners are to be avoided if at all possible, but fruit is okay- no tropicals though so berries, apples, pears are okay but yer mangoes, pineapples etc are not

LolBeansandSalad · 06/06/2016 20:20

Going to nibble on a bit of cheese now I think

Cocolepew · 06/06/2016 20:29

Thanks lol Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 20:31

I have stevia in coffee twice a day, but other than that I've quit most sweet foods so that includes artificially sweetened things like yoghurts etc. I have cut back on fruit dramatically as I was eating several hundred calories a day just in fruit alone before starting this. I have raspberries a few times a week if I fancy a pudding. I haven't attempted to make alternative puddings using fruit or sweetners, I know the I quit sugar plan has some recipes but I've found it easier to remove them completely.

Cocolepew · 06/06/2016 20:44

Funnily I was going to buy fruit on the way to work but didnt because its still calories even if it is healthier!

GraceGildee · 06/06/2016 21:02

Also avoid bananas if you can. I'm feeling less hungry today. On Sunday my entire body was hungry. Now I'm more energised and head feels a bit clearer.
