I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Well I've still not managed to restart and now have to go away for a few days. There will be cake. New goal to start again next weekend - properly! The good news is I haven't really gone up again, 2lbs max, so all is not lost.

GraceGildee · 01/08/2016 09:57

Bloody hell that was a very un-diet weekend for me, helping friends get their new house ready and eating junk food with the builders. I am 5lbs up since Friday, so I am starting again properly today. I go away on the 22nd and want to be into the next stone band. Just had usual breakfast, going to the cinema later and will NOT have popcorn this time. I put weight on very easily when I eat the wrong things but I can lose it when I put my mind to it. Onward!

(Actually I think I may have been somewhat constipated...)

Lunch was lovely cold roasted vegetables leftover from yesterday with mayonnaise and cheddar.

Can't believe I've missed this thread! But luckily now found.

I have only just started so the recipes included here are SO helpful. Thank you very much. I'm putting them all into a spreadsheet so I just simply take a look at all the options you lot have come up with.

Swifey · 01/08/2016 19:14

I have lost 6lbs in my first week, and dh lost 5lbs, so it's all good, and a massive incentive to keep going! Although my period is due and I always gain about 5lbs water retention so I'll have to keep the faith that that is all it is!! Breakfast same as Grace, lunch half a lavash with some cheese and ham and salad, and supper is roasted veg (mushrooms, onion, carrot and cauliflower) with a pork loin steak and possibly some mayo. Am feeling all light and energetic, which is amazing, as I thought with the reduced calories I wouldn't!! Grin

GraceGildee · 01/08/2016 19:45

Welcome ohno, glad the recipes are helpful. Swifey that's brilliant, I love it when a few pounds come off at once.

I went to the cinema and resisted the popcorn, I had a box of raspberries instead ;) Dinner was roast chicken, roasted halloumi (incredible), various veg and houmous. Roast halloumi is amazing, looks like a roast potato and great for dipping.

Grace, normally I fry Halloumi. When you roast it, do you slice it first or just put in the whole slab? And do you dry roast it separately or put it in the roasting tin with all the other veg....

GraceGildee · 02/08/2016 12:30

I chop it into largish cubes and roast it with other veg and a bit of olive oil. Keep an eye on it as it may cook faster than the veg. It goes brown and crispy and puffs up a bit. So nice.

I had a salad of various things in a box for lunch and a really nice dinner. Green salad with steak, onions and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Soooo nice. 800 calories today and also walked for two hours.

well done on steps and 800 day Grace!

GraceGildee · 03/08/2016 23:04

Well today was hours of walking but also Jack Daniels and chocolate :) not much healthy eating today. Met with a friend I see once a year. I did have a beautiful sandwich of houmous, halloumi and vegetables. First bread in ages. Hoping the walking will have helped.

I've done eight weeks now and I'm going to carry on with the occasional day or evening off. I'm not going to keep posting every day as I eat a lot of similar things and it gets a bit dull to keep sharing the same meals. I will post pictures when I make something interesting though.

Well done Grace on getting to 8 weeks, I enjoyed checking out your pics. How did it work out for you all in all?

GraceGildee · 04/08/2016 17:51

I've lost about two stone with a bit of fluctuation. I feel now that I have the tools to do this and I know what 800 calories looks like. I feel a lot better being thinner and I'd like to get down to the next stone band.

Best tips from me: use MFP, drink loads of water, psyllium husk is amazing stuff, and fruit and nuts in Greek yoghurt overnight is a brilliant breakfast!

Well done Grace, 2 stone is really excellent Star

Swifey · 04/08/2016 20:45

Brilliant Grace!!!! Well done you!! Flowers
I have done 11 days and am 12lbs down, and feeling brilliant!! (Apart from just starting my period, so trying to stay on track this week as just want to eat chocolate!)
Have just had a delicious frittata with red onion, mushrooms, peppers and Parmesan, with a couple of spoonfuls of low sugar baked beans. Really yummy for a quick and easy supper!! Last night was really nice too; prawns in homemade Marie Rose sauce on a big salad of avocado, homegrown tomatoes, romaine lettuce and cucumber! Really fresh and delicious!

GraceGildee · 10/08/2016 12:42

Back again with a lovely lunch. I managed to catch the avocado before it went black and mashed it up.

Well done Grace! How brilliant to lose 2st. I need to lose 4st in all. Weight not dropping off as quickly as I'd hoped but I am allowing myself a vodka or 2 in the evening. I'm not giving up. It has to be done - and it will be done.

GraceGildee · 10/08/2016 13:02

It will, slow and steady. I don't stick to it all the time but I try to when I'm at home.

I had lunch out at a clean eating cafe. Very easy to low carb! I think roasted sweet potato would have been nicer but it was good.

Was in Tesco today and saw some cheese in with the Cheddar called EatLean - looks like a normal block of cheddar but apparently has less than 200 cals for 100g - i got some to try so will let people know what it's like

GraceGildee · 12/08/2016 17:54

Stuffed after this dinner! Roast chicken with coleslaw and broccoli. Salad made with rocket, cherries, poppy seeds, red pepper, halloumi and tomato. Roast cauliflower, sweet potato and mushrooms. Really nice.

That looks yummy! Thanks fir this thread, finding it really inspiring. I got down to 9 stone when I did low carb years ago ( when it was the Atkins diet ), but am now 11 stone and it doesn't feel good. Need to rethink my diet...

GraceGildee · 15/08/2016 23:05

Saturday night: millions of cocktails, Sunday: in the horrors with tortilla chips and Maoams. Made me feel worse!
Today, usual breakfast, salad lunch and then a chow mein for tea. Most definitely not low carb but I'm doing ok. Walking loads and drinking water.

I fell off the wagon at the weekend too, and accidentally consumed cheese baguette, crisps, red wine, toast with butter and honey and biscuits!!! Whoops! I seem to have put on 5lbs, but am hoping that a good week this week will help that! Although we have friends coming for the weekend, so no doubt it will all go back on again!!!!
