Well, I had another day when it all went to weasel poo rat shit yesterday, despite being all 'on it' I rapidly fell 'off it' and ate a cadburys caramel. Grrrrr. Even as I was eating it I was telling myself I didn't want it! Feel much better this morning though and did a coffee date with old friends from school and did not have cake. Have just had a chicken breast dipped in hummus. This is my third day without caffeine, had small headache yesterday but feel fine today, plus I haven't slept so well in a long time so feel refreshed as well. Food wise, I'm just taking each day at a time at the moment, if I aim for 800 it seems to keep me hovering around 1000 on s good day so I daren't increase my allowance! Rereading the book helped. Hopefully a few good days under my belt will get me back on it!

notsoold · 21/06/2016 14:58

Thanks everyone..... things wer3 okish yesterday so day on shakes today!!!Smile

notsoold · 21/06/2016 15:01

aplace 5:2never worked for me either......too lose.....

H3l3naGraham · 21/06/2016 18:11

I think to make this work long term, we will only be able to have carbs as an occasional treat, this is a lifestyle change/choice. If we slip off, for any length of time we will pile it all back on again. Interesting, on the BSD (MM) site, some long-termers have stuck to it + are finding sampling carbs again, as a special treat unpleasant, their bodies don't like what it does to them, I am looking forward to that day!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/06/2016 18:56

I do find I don't feel comfortable after eating carbs. I haven't had that elusive 'it tastes disgustingly sweet' epiphany that people talk about. Every time I've had chocolate I've wanted to cry like a rom-com heroine about the unfairness of our forbidden love.....

Not2bObvious · 21/06/2016 19:38

Haha bear, I'm with you on the angst! I'm good with the carbs until the next day, then I usually feel rubbish chances are coz I've gorged myself silly
Back to another saying or at least I think this is it - "Being fat is hard, being slim is hard, choose your hard" If only eh?

One way I got through the 8 weeks was to remind myself that yes its not always fun to not have cake or chocolate, but then its also not fun to be self conscious at every party or event, on the beach, nothing to wear, standing next to the skinny Minnies. My family might think I'm rude or 'one won't hurt' when i say no to dessert or cake or potatoes, but they won't be there when I'm feeling unhappy. The biggest thing I've learned doing this is that its not actually hard to say no to something you don't want or need, and I can enjoy life without it. I agree that being both fat and thin are hard, but not equally so. getting thin is hard, being fat is hard.
obviously, I wasn't thinking this over this week when in was failing miserably, only now I feel better!

Not2bObvious · 21/06/2016 21:44

Day done @809 cals so doing good. Tummy has been making all manner of weird noises last 2 nights, probably crying wondering where all the food went! I was tempted to have a glass of wine when I got home, sun was shining always makes me lushy but I just overrode my inner demons. I'm v happy I did, chances are 1 would have ended up as 2 with a bag of crisps, then a nibble of chocolate. I wish I could be this motivated Friday thru Sunday. I checked out the menu of where I'm heading Friday and it's not great. I suppose I could have steak at a push but it's not that appealing, esp not at the prices! I don't mind going off plan but I prefer if it's for something I actually want. Moany Minnie here, next I'll be complaining my diamond shoes pinch😁

Newbie here. First day done at a touch under 800. Had an awful kale salad for supper - any suggestions for edible kale meals would be much appreciated.

I so want to have a reasonable loss in the first week - I realise I've started at the worse possible time. I've got at least one meal out or over night stay each week for the next 8. I'm going to need will power and that's what I lack !

MsMarple · 22/06/2016 01:13

Hi didireallysaythat kale is v nice stir fried with lots of garlic and soy sauce.

I only just started too - 2 days done and all OK so far eating wise, and I did a bit of walking, but not sure I have the energy for proper exercise!

MsMarple · 22/06/2016 01:16

PS - Do you know where you are going for the eating out days? Although it is a bit of a cliche maybe it would help to choose beforehand what you want. We went to Pizza Express on Monday but it was OK as I'd decided on superfood salad thing from home, which made it easier not to even look at the other yumminess on offer when I was there.

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2016 07:22

V welcome new folk. Walking is the recommended exercise, and some hiit sessions if you can manage it. Work your way up to 10,000 steps, I'd swear that's the best thing I've done and I plan to keep doing it longterm. I haven't eaten kale since I was a child so I can't comment there. I eat cauli/broccoli/peas/green beans so that does me. Wrt going away or it being the worse time, that's not necessarily a given. If you're eating out, meat or fish, eat the veg or salad, leave the potatoes/rice. Staying overnight, eggs & bacon for brekkie, no toast. Lots of water wherever you are. If you slip, pick yourself up, start again. 8 weeks with 6-7 days between 800-1100 won't be scuppered by a day a week with more. Waiting for the madness with kids getting ready before I weigh in

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2016 07:34

Baby kale can be nice for sald but normal kale is best cooked. I think there must be a narrow cooking sweet spot as sometimes it turns out yuk other times nice. If you can be bothered briefly steam then add to the frying pan with whatever else you are cooking. You can add a chunk of kale to blend into smoothies with natural yog and berries or bake it on a low temp in the oven for crisps that don't tast anything like crisps

Keep going everyone! my weight is back up too after a night of smirnoff ices {whispers} and a midnight chicken wrap at macdonalds Blush went to see coldplay at wembley was v fun.

I watched part od a hbo documentary about the weight of america and basically the more processed a food is the higher the profit margains so fizzy drinks - 90% profit, fruit and veg 10% profits, as a result marketing etc is all geared towards junk food. One of the scientisty types said that in todays society you have to work hard to avoid gaining weight (lots of processed food and increasingly sedantry lifestyle) hearing that it is a fact that the majority of people will have to work hard at weightloss was strangley reassuring. For us that means once the weight is off we have to weigh in daily to stop any sneaky weight gain in its tracks
{rolls up sleeves and makes fistycuffs at weight gain demon}

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2016 07:51

Hope you enjoyed the gig yum, they look (on TV anyway) great in concert. I watched that set of documentaries too, very interesting and sad I thought. Big business wants us fat & sugar soaked. We must resist! Scales showing 11.3.2, down 1.8 yesterday and now only .8 up from last Friday. 2 more good days, that's all I need, and then a good weekend. Pulls metaphoric socks up😉

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/06/2016 09:36

It's great reading all your updates. yum I was Envy at your Smirnoff Ices and chicken wrap!

I have discovered the answer to snacking in the office - mange tout and cashew nuts. Not quite as tasty as the chocolate raisins I succumbed to last week but much healthier. Grin

Someone mentioned saying 'no' to desserts, etc. I was at the park with DS at the weekend and bought him an ice cream and it was only when we were walking away that I realised I hadn't even thought of getting one for myself - a teeny, tiny step in the right direction.

didireallysaythat · 22/06/2016 09:57

Thank you for the tips.

Alas I find traveling usually results in me having to skip lunch and then failing at dinner, and then swinging in the other direction (the food is always limited choice - lunch today is a range of sandwiches, fruit juice, melon and pineapple). I'm hoping to just drink a litre or two of peppermint tea .

I'll try cooking the kale tonight - it's all baby leaves (grown in the garden), but was a little too bitter for me. The spinach and chard was better, but for some reason I grew less of that !

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2016 10:17

Weighed in, maintain for me but after the week I have had I am not at all surprised. I can now have a few good days I reckon, need to do a quick shop for some groceries to see us through til payday! Dh and I are going for a night away to celebrate our anniversary this weekend, so Saturday will pretty much be a write off calories wise, but other than that I have nothing major on the calendar. I have a child free dsay tomorrow (!) So will be getting my steps in doing housework!

didireallysaythat · 22/06/2016 11:36

Quick question: I have no idea if I'm currently likely to be diabetic but given my diet and weight it seems likely. Does anyone measure their blood sugar at home and have you seen a change with the diet ? I'm wondering if it's a measurable motivator - I need motivation.

Oblomov16 · 22/06/2016 11:44

AverageBear and H3 now feel bloated after eating carbs? I don't. I crave carbs as much as I ever did.
I have eaten cheesecake, maltesers and crisps and nuts in the last week and TOTALLY enjoyed all. Immensely!! So that's not good. Plus, I think I'm putting on weight. So I really need to get back on track.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 22/06/2016 13:18

I'm normally a bootcamper, but gonna give this a shot. On my second day under 800cal and just settling down to read the book 😄

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2016 13:28

oblov you misunderstand me.....I do get bloated after eating them, but I still persevere!Grin I have found these last few weeks especially hard, I smell bread, cakes, roast potatoes from 100 paces (or so it seems) and it is taking an iron will to resist them. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much, but I can say I do still crave carbs. When I'm on plan, a few sugar free low carb days under my belt, I am much better equipped to resist them and can even watch people eat them without wanting to strangle them and steal their cakes . I don't think at any point on this diet I have forgotten how much I like sweet foods, just become more rational around them and less catastrophic.
I used to work in the prison service and once a lad said to me 'I try to be good miss but trouble finds me' and I advised him to 'behave with integrity at the moment of choice'. When you've got a choice, choose well. Give it thought. Consider all options. I am glad I've remembered this, because it is still good advice.....

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2016 14:18

behave with integrity at the moment of choice - I love that! I'm going to memorise and repeat at times of temptation😁
So far so good today although no exercise done after woeful lack of sleep last night. I've no idea about blood sugar readings unless you're actually diagnosed as diabetic or pre-diabetic did but I would say you should visit your doctor if you're really concerned. There are other implications of being diabetic or pre apart from weight, better to be safe. Nothing to stop you starting & succeeding at the plan. The results are excellent if you stick to it faithfully, that should give you motivation

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/06/2016 14:29

behave with integrity at the moment of choice that should be our motto. We could have it on badges Grin

GraceGildee · 22/06/2016 14:31

My blood sugar readings have gone down, some have been in the lower 5s which is great for me.

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2016 18:32

I wish I had remembered the saying when I snaffled chocolates at the cinema 😂 Oh well cals are still ok (just!) Out trying to get me steps up to 10,000 before tea, nearly there
