I'm new to all of this, but have read all of the BSD threads over the last couple of days and am really quite intrigued. I've bought the book and was planning on sticking to the plans for a couple of weeks until I get used to it.

The trouble is, I'm worried I'm going to starve and won't be able to stick to it. I know it's going to be difficult, because it's a diet for a reason, but please can anybody reassure me that I won't start chewing on my desk.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/06/2016 16:18

Honestly if you stick to the plan and don't cheat you won't feel hungry. Make every calorie count. Its only since I've cheated that I feel like I want to throttle everyone.

Clg199 · 16/06/2016 16:24

Thank you. I'm quite looking forward to doing it, in a weird way. It'll be quite nice to have the food already thought about by somebody else, I can just buy it and make it.

I guess it gets a bit harder when you stop the plan and start your own meal planning, but I'm willing to give it a go.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/06/2016 16:41

I found the first few days difficult as I adjusted but then it's fine. As bear said if you don't cheat then you won't feel hungry.

all of us that are having cheat days have finished the 8 weeks

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/06/2016 16:44

I didn't necessarily have the exact meals from the book; I just 'did the plan' ie. No sugar at all, no sweetener, very limited fruits, no potato, rice, pasta, bread banana etc. Lots of good fats and carbs below 50g. Since I've sort of gone of the rails the last week or so, even though I've kept calories low I've struggled to keep carbs low and I feel deprived and grouchy. I've been in a right stinky mare of a mood all day. Its definitely easier, for me at least, to get into that detox phase and stay there. Good luck anyway, you'll find lots of good advice on here and tips!
Ps. Apologies for my total crankiness. I've been like it for about 4 days now and I feel like someone's gonna cop the brunt of it soon....!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/06/2016 16:45

I was contemplating a small glass of wine to ease my mood, but I'm at a new starters meeting at my son's new primary school in an hour so can't turn up with red wine lips! Grrrrrrr.

Elvish · 16/06/2016 16:51

Shove up on the naughty spot ladies, my not inconsiderable arse needs to join you.

As I said I had the urge to be bad yesterday and got home to find DH reviewing the takeaway menus. Not content with ordering Chinese I also got a bottle of wine and lemon possets from the shops.

So, I've got it out of my system and I've not suffered too much today with the carb munchies but I need to keep drinking lots of water to get rid of all that salt.

Have a wonderful time H3 - plenty of time to get back on plan when you get home.

Hi Clg I was worried I'd starve too, but as long as you cut out bread/rice/pasta/sugar you'll find 800 cals goes a long way. Get plenty of veg on your plate and you should be fine. I generally do breakfast at 150cals, lunch at about 200 and then 450 for my evening meal. I don't snack as I can't manage to keep to 800 when I do. Make sure you menu plan and buy in advance because if you get hungry and short of time you will be very tempted to cheat. Good luck!

H3l3naGraham · 16/06/2016 17:08

Oh my goodness it's hot here, simply boiling, must avenue sweated away a couple of lbs since yesterday, 29C + climbing. Hair looks like hell, but am managing to hide it under a panama during the day, night-time is frizz-ball/poodle a chic look. Not.....

Well I shared a pizza with DH today, just a 1/2 & I couldn't finish that, I always think pizza sounds great, but when I have one, I go off the idea, 1st attempt on the devil-food since November, I honestly prefer my little gram-flour-flatbread ones I make at home. So won't be having any more whilst we are here. RESULT!!

Thankfully the salads are ace as is the first, had tuna & prawn carpaccio last night, never had raw prawns before, was dressed oriental style on lots of tomatoes & suspect it was very BSD. The wine wasn't though, neither was the bitter orange liquor that's the speciality in Sicily, tasted like alcoholic marmalade. Very nice but a one-off, won't have another!

Brekkie is youghurt, nuts (pistachios/almonds grown here) & berries followed by either parma ham or something eggy, with a handful of deelish baby tomatoes, they actually taste of something, so nice am eating them like sweets!!

not2b - i sympathise with you on the Excel issue, have never, ever mastered it, guaranteed to add new swear words to my lexicon every time I need to chart stuff, designed by a sadist.

Am loving the wine, oh boy and it's so reasonable, will be drinking myself back onto some severe dieting when I get back, but am gonna lush it up whilst I am here!!WineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWine

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/06/2016 17:19

Sounds like sheer bliss H3 and I don't blame you one bit for indulging.

Morning everyone. I'm really struggling at the moment, and was 2lb up this morning as a result. I did have 2 good days Monday and Tues, but Wednesday was a write off and yesterday was sugar free but waaaaaaay over calories and carbs. I have decided I need a new strategy as its more lack of motivation than true hunger that's getting me. So I've had nuts and total yoghurt for breakfastbreakfast and a latte. A lot more calories than I would normally eat in the morning. I'll have a late and light lunch, and not sure yet what for tea but I'm going to the supermarket so will pick something up. I've sort of lost my way a bit, perhaps a bit bored of my food, haven't been doing my exercise really, and the weather has confined me and two lively boys to the house which is pretty stressful! Perhaps also this is why MM suggests an 8 week cycle, I just feel like this 2nd cycle is just harder after having some carbs and reminding myself how much I love them
I'm keeping on going though, I have another stone to lose so its totally do-able and I just need to get my head back on it properly. On a plus, I have bought a baby Carrier /hiking carrier so I can get out a bit more to places that aren't pushchair friendly (such as woods and museums!) So I will hopefully be able to get a few more steps in!

Not2bObvious · 17/06/2016 08:11

Here's your sister bear, I'm dancing the dance of 1 step forward, 2 steps back! Had carbs galore yesterday & drinks, also Totm isn't helping. Scales is up 1.2 from last Friday but you know what, I think we have to stop being so literal. People who don't have weight issues fluctuate by a few pounds I'm sure. I'm going to just repeat to myself, I'm around 11 stone. I think the time to worry is when it's up 5 or 6 and stays that way, 2 pound is but a bit of carb bloat. Not a real gain. I had the same brekkie as you on Wednesday & it stood to me, tasty and kept me going. I resisted toast this morning, had egg and I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that I can have a good if not perfect day. Although it is lasagne for dinner, better than chipper or Chinese I reckon

I'm 0.4lbs down this morning but it's the same 0.4lbs that I've been up and down all week so I have no idea if it will stay off this time or be back on tomorrow.

bear and Not2b you have both been so motivated that I think it's only natural to have dips now and then. It's one of the good things about this thread because we can check in, say it's not really working just now but know that it doesn't mean we're giving up. Look at much you have both lost already! I think these stutters are completely normal trying to convince myself as well as you both

We went out for dinner last night. I had steak salad and then cooked apples with custard (it was supposed to be crumble but I picked the apple out to eat!). Today, I had lunch with a friend - a supposedly potato-free frittata.

I have an online delivery waiting at home, so was menu planning in bed last night. It's the only way I can think of to get back on track.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/06/2016 14:41

Yes, you're all dead right. I feel a lot better today after simply mixing things up a bit. I think I will devise some kind of 5:2 or 4:3, possibly alternate 800 and 1100 days or some other strategies, for the foreseeable. In reality, I have probably done this anyway during the 8 weeks as I very rarely came in under 800 but maybe doing it in a strucured way might give me a motivation boost? It might be a bit of a NSV week as well, as my jeans were falling down as I went round the supermarket!
As an aside, in Lidl (I am a new convert to Lidl, never gelled with aldi, but love a bargain!) They have a range of unusual meats in their freezer section, I have bought kangaroo steaks for dinner tonight! I will let you know how they are.
Thanks for all your kind words, what a thoroughly lovely bunch you all are! Flowers

yumyumpoppycat · 17/06/2016 17:10

Hope you enjoy the kangaroo steaks! Defo time to 5:2 or 2:5 and have at least 2 days a week where you dont count calories but try to eat fairly low carb/ sensibly.

I am aiming for slow loss now so just throwing in some 800s here and there and trying to be sensible the rest of the time, if I get close to hol in august and still have a few more lbs to lose I will step it up on the 800s. I have managed to lose the weight which crept back on (largely down to a boozy evening) and even edged down to the next lb.

I keep banging on about it but that oldie saying breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper really seems to work for me with losing weight more quickly. MM did a piece on it in his show trust me I'm a Dr a while ago. It means I have the cals when I need them most and I am less hungry than I would have imagined in the evenin -it's the kitchen closed mindset people mention on the 5:2 thread.

H3l3naGraham · 17/06/2016 17:16

Hello all, I agree with yumyum on that old adage, best way to live + all those amazing people who live to healthy old age in pockets around the world like Greek Islands + the like eat like this. Can we adapt it to include drink wine like a camel when on hols though please???

yumyumpoppycat · 17/06/2016 22:02

H3 that's interesting! Enjoy your hol, you have been looking forward to it for so long, would be criminal not to relax and enjoy all that Italy has to offer. Plus the rest of us get to day dream about being in Italy and enjoying wine and delicious food! Wine

H3l3naGraham · 18/06/2016 10:31

Thought a picture of my dinner last night might inspire you all......

H3l3na your dinner looks beautiful. I hope you're having a fab time. Smile

H3l3naGraham · 18/06/2016 14:41

Sun is shining, blood alcohol level rising, having a lovely time couch and thank you all for good wishes, will need a straight-jacket to stop me eating here!! BUT, asides from the wine spiral, I am only having 1 x bad thing a day, ie one scoop of ice-cream or today had a small portion of pasta and I left 1/2 of it!! Now prefer courgetti as lighter, honest! Amazing what 4.5 months of BSD can do!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/06/2016 14:18

Hopefully the nice weather will be helping too H3l3na. I always want to eat lighter meals when it's warm.

WI today and I have lost 1.4lbs this week and 19lbs in total since I started. I probably still have the same again to lose but hopefully I will get there eventually.

H3l3naGraham · 19/06/2016 16:31

Well done couch - we can lose our next load of excess together!! Amazing storm here really loud, but sun's out again now, so is the wine bottle.......

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/06/2016 18:19

Well I'm finishing the day in the 800s! Not quite 799.9 but that is good enough for me today. Had 3 small meals, yoghurt from breakfast, omlette for lunch and chicken and salad for dinner. Hopefully this is marking a small change in my motivation, I have two coffee and cake dates this week, so I need to be resolutely 'on it'. I've planned my meals for the next few days which I think helps as I can get things prepared in advance and factor in some treats. I'm cutting all the fruit out though for the next few days as I find once I have some I then start looking around for more sugar!
I've been rereading the book as well to get me back on track. I particularly found the bits about caffeine and cortisol very interesting, I have been drinking more coffee since doing this, mostly to give me something to do at 'snack time', but I have been feeling quite stressy the last few weeks, so today I haven't had any coffee. I'm going to try and cut back to maybe one a day and replace with green tea.

Not2bObvious · 19/06/2016 22:12

Hi all. I think I need to read the book again, cause I'm off the grid this whole weekend. And I feel dreadful, super tired & I feel like I've gained half a stone. Wine/chocolate/crisps/bread/chips/pizza - yep, I went to town. Anyway...I'm suffering for it now. Hoping for a good sleep then I'm focussing on getting my 10,000 steps in, 2-3 litres of water and as low carb as I can manage. Apologies for the whine, needed to confess and draw a line under the behaviour. Be back and in better form tomorrow, hope you're all keeping well
