I'm working really hard today on getting my water in - 4 glasses in so far. I don't know what's happened to me the last week, found the water bit tough. Goes to show though, when I hydrate I'm not nearly as munchy'ish (that's my theory today anyway!) Realised my mince needed using so I've made a bolognese & meatloaf for the freezer, feeling very smug

I've prised myself off my deathbed sofa, and am tackling a cheat's cassoulet, courtesy of the Hairy Dieters. 464 calories, but all I've had today is a mug of homemade broccoli soup & 4 small slices of ham, need some comfort food to set me straight.

Have had 3 litres of water so far today & 3 mugs of herbal detox tea, thankfully my kidneys are now working again..........took a while though....

oolaroola · 28/04/2016 16:32

Am off out to dinner tonight with DH which is always risky.
Have checked the menu and it seems I could order steak and salad minus the chips it comes with or there's a duck leg with flagelot cassoulet served with green leaves.
What sounds best do you think?
Have basically eaten bugger all today in preparation and I'm starving. The problem I find with eating out is that the food is very salty and this affects water retention the next day.
Any advice oh wise ones?....

Not2bObvious · 28/04/2016 16:36

I'd say have what you'd like Oola, a bit of what you fancy won't harm - it's just 1 meal. Life is for living

The trouble is Not that I'm very easily lured off the wagon but find it really hard to get back on. I could easily disappear in to an abyss of bread, chips, crips, cake and chocolate for a couple of weeks after one slip up - and I can't be arsed to do all this hard work all over again.
I'm basically a hopeless addict with a bad sugar habit - aargh..

H3l3naGraham · 28/04/2016 16:50

I'd have the duck oola - the steak is too 'pure' diet, the duck will be more satisfying. Have a lovely meal!

clare8allthepies · 28/04/2016 17:12

Went out and purchased new scales (the same type as the old ones) and it appears the problem is solved! When I first started noticing the varying weights, DP had a look at them and realised that 2 of the 4 little rubber circles on the feet were missing from underneath. He took the remaining 2 off hoping that that would fix the problem but evidently not.

In with the new scales (which always give the same reading no matter where in the bathroom they are) was a pack of 4 replacement feet for if you wanted to use the scales on carpet. Put these on the old ones and they now work perfectly too! So from no working scales to 2 sets, tomorrow mornings I'll find out what the real result is!

oolaroola · 28/04/2016 17:21

I was erring towards the duck too H3 as I can cook a steak myself anytime!

Good job you've got that sorted Clare - it's a real pain when your scales don't work. am wondering wether mine are that accurate but our floor is a bit wonky so it's probably that. In fact all our floors are bloody wonky!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/04/2016 17:24

clare your suddenly multiplying scale collection made me laugh - sorry! Blush

I am having onion soup and then Jollof chicken for dinner this evening if I can tear myself off the couch to cook DS (7) wants to make dessert but luckily his approach to desserts is very cordon bleu so usually involves 3 artfully placed blueberries, a streak of ice cream and 2 segments of orange (with careful drops of orange juice squeezed over the top). Grin

Have a lovely meal Oola.

H3l3naGraham · 28/04/2016 18:00

Good news re the scales clare - at least you have an answer now, or will tomorrow morning!

Couch DS sounds like the son of a friend of mine, he ended up doing a stint with Heston during his holidays when at Uni, sounds like you have a budding chef in the family.

oola - enjoy your duck, no bread roll mind you, but get DH to have pud, from which you can have just one spoonful (before he stabs your hand with the dessert fork!)

clare8allthepies · 28/04/2016 19:19

Had a lovely if rather odd combo for dinner, chicken curry and courgetti. Was miles better than last nights cauliflower rice (Envy cauliflower)

Just about to go on MFP and see how I'm doing on the calorie front, hope there's enough for a glass of the lovely looking wine that somehow ended up in my online shopping order!

Have a lovely evening Oola

APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/04/2016 19:33

H3l3na I would love if he became a chef and if his portion sizes remain tiny, his meals should still fit with the BSD!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/04/2016 20:18

Evening everyone, had a good day today, took my two boys out for the day and we ended up in wetherspoons to eat. They have all the calorie counts on the menu, which probably saved me as I had half resigned myself to having a bit of a splurge, maybe a few chips, but when I saw the calories there in black and white I resisted and had a Caesar salad! Did my third day of shred, but found it difficult today, the cardio elements especially were tough on my aching muscles, and I felt like I wasn't really doing it until I was about 2/3 through. Tonight I had liver and Bacon casserole and cabbage and leek cooked with wholegrain mustard (and it was yummy) but now I'm tipping the calorie count at 900.

Elvish · 28/04/2016 21:49

How do you feel about broccoli bear?

I've been wondering if I could make broccoli rice instead of cauliflower - has anyone tried it?

yumyumpoppycat · 28/04/2016 22:51

Never tried it but think I have seen recipes for brocers rice, let us know how it turns out Grin .

Have done quite well this week with diet and exercise and have lost my 4lbs 'weekend weight' plus finally dropped down to the next lb so some actual real weight loss is possible this week if I can keep it up over the weekend.

Sounds like a lovely day new average and 900 is a success in my book.

Not2bObvious · 29/04/2016 07:41

Morning all. Weekly WI done, I was 11.4.8 last Friday, today I'm 11.3.4 which I'll take happily.
I remember reading in the book a little brown rice is ok occasionally? It might just be better to have the real thing (ok it's still a sub of sorts) and learn to enjoy it in smaller/less frequent amounts - it would be a step towards better behaviour long term? I'm coming from the post bsd fast stage view, I'm now into week 2 and in the last week I had a small amount of bread, pizza and a few chips and biscuitsBlush and so far all ok I think. Weekend challenge ahead, sigh, I need a good weekend without hangover & associated munchies. Out tonight for dinner, and I'm having fish & chips! Haven't had that in 3 months I reckon

I do love broccoli, much prefer it to cauliflower, but i think the 'riceness' comes from that gritty texture of the cauliflower, when only lightly cooked it doesn't lose it's grainy texture, whereas perhaps broccoli would? To be honest, the cauli rice is too much of a faff for me, I'd rather just have the whole floret on the side.

Tiredemma · 29/04/2016 08:06

Hi- can I join you?

mootime · 29/04/2016 08:28

Hi all. I've managed 4 days totally on plan this week so jumped on the scales and I've gained 2lbs.
Off to sulk

H3l3naGraham · 29/04/2016 08:28

Welcome on board tiredemma - the more the merrier!

I gave away all my store-cupboard simple carbs to a friend, now have brown rice, no pasta, porridge & some bits & bobs remaining. We have porridge with almond milk twice a week, not strictly on-diet but on-maintenance & it's good for cholesterol levels. Looking at the BSD site which I did yesterday through the mists of my dire hangover, if BS is a real issue (as opposed to sugar addiction & weight-loss requirements) then many of the long-term ears ie 8-12 week+ are attempting to re-introduce the odd simple carb treat eg chapati, porridge and it's causing BS spikes in many of them so it comes back to this diet being a choice of long-term lifestyle choices for many people, I suspect we will compromise but bread is now a weekend treat, 1 slice each, no more sandwiches and we are realising that some fruits will be for special occasions only, haven't had bananas in the house for months!

NewAverage & Elvish On the cauli-rice issue, has anyone tried it with the green broccoli-cauli hybrid the Romesco ( I think it's called )might be worth a shot?

Not2b - that is good, slow & steady, good luck with your fish & chip supper tonight, I haven't had it for 3 months either, on Friday I pan fry salmon & we have 1 sweet potato 'chipped' with a little olive oil & baked in the oven, it's a fair substitute, but not the same as a real chippy's offering of course!

H3l3naGraham · 29/04/2016 08:46

Mootime - which week are you on, sorry can't remember? If it's 4-5 lots of people on BSD seem to have stuck or even gained around them, did yumyumpoppy post on this too a while back, am sure I have seen this.

You might need a bit more fat, that can help kick-start weight-loss again, a bit of cheese when you get the munchies, or more olive oil on your food?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/04/2016 08:47

I've still got all my store cupboard carbs, as the kids 'need' them. Currently feeding baby ds with white buttered toast! Cupboard full of Easter eggs. Breakfast cereals. Writing this I am amazed that I haven't killed someone eaten any.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/04/2016 08:52

Oh and yes to h3 and mootime above. My weight loss has virtually stuck for the last few weeks, i've only lost 3lb technically since day 14 ish, although did relose a couple, but I'm sticking to sugar free 100% and hitting 900-1000 a day. Its only when I look at the figures I remember this because I'm just so pleased to be sticking to it and my overall loss is still good. I am really trying hard to get down to 800 in case this makes a difference. I'm halfway through week five. (Ie. 4.5 weeks on plan).

H3l3naGraham · 29/04/2016 08:57

...... Long termers, not term ears...... Blasted intuitive software.... !!!!!! Grin

mootime · 29/04/2016 11:21

Thanks ladies. I've actually been doing this diet (albeit not daily 800) for about 3 months. I'm a stone down (pretty crap over three months) and only bounced up and down for the last 4 really.
I'm going to stick with it (despite the massive slab of banana bread I just ate under pressure from DD - we'd just baked it).

We have a massively social weekend ahead and its DS birthday next week so it's going to be a right off. I'm tempted to give myself a break from the fasting and just try and stay on low carb, to TDEE and see if I can just feel less exhausted by it all.
