Is it too late to join you here? I have stones and stones to loose, and have pre-diabetic blood sugar levels, so it seems like the ideal thing to try. I have read the book and am definitely going to start tomorrow. Have been avoiding scales throughout the last cake-filled week so not looking forward to that part...

SpiritedLondon · 20/06/2016 06:58

Hiya. Well I've done 2 whole weeks now and have to say I found the second week pretty tough at times....I think I may have read further upstream that this is not unusual so I'm pushing on with enthusiasm. I'm delighted to have lost 10lbs so far - if that isn't motivating I don't know what is. I've even succumbed to odd handfuls of peanuts / chips during that time - been out to dinner twice and had a trip to the cinema. ( no popcorn Confused ) so it seems possible. MsMarple give it a go - my recommendation would be to play around with combinations to see what works ie having 3 meals or 2 larger meals etc. It seems a bit daunting but it is possible. Good luck.

H3l3naGraham · 20/06/2016 07:22

Well done spirited - you will get ups & downs, but stick at it, that's a great result! Welcome on board missMarple , it's certainly not too late to join, it's never to late to change the way you eat & get healthy!

I have cut out 90% of fruit too bear have had some cherries whilst on holiday but asides from that when at home it's just berries with an occasional green apple, usually a 1/2 a one, as DH is on BSD too, we share & I'm not tempted to eat the whole lot.

Yesterday we went on a road trip as there was a storm, we then discovered absolutely no restaurants open on a Sunday, so we went to a cafe, it was just pain is, pizza or Italian pasty type things, mine turned out to be a savoury donut (don't ask, it was disgusting) DH's was more pasty, but filled with cheese, mushrooms & ham....... Deffo not BSD food.......felt the fat piling on as we ate...

Brekkies have been mostly youghurt, berries &/or eggs, lunches mainly salads Dinner is when we have food treats, one a day, last night I had seafood risotto, but managed to leave most of the rice.

Vino is a constant, but in a week, I have had the following treats (disgusting donut was not a treat):

1/2 pizza
1/2 piece of Italian baked cheesecake
1 scoop of granita/sorbet
1/2 cassata
1 Risotto (but left most of the rice)
1/2 portion of oven baked spuddies in Rosemary & oil
1 slice of toast a day (it is a holiday after all!!)

So no angel, but not as bad as I could have been, all the 1/2's are shares with DH.

Have been sightseeing on many days, so lots of steps, 2 days in the car (fat bum days I call them) but today is beach & swimming, which I love!!

Sunshine again after yesterday's huge electric storms, so will attempt to get legs brown ( never, ever have brown legs) which might mask the mozzie bites...

Like Not2, I haven't had the best weekend - having our own huge BBQ party meant wine, cocktails, Eton mess.
Will try and get back on track.

Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 08:10

That's a really great achievement keep, I'm delighted for you - and encouraged. Feeling v unwell today, look like death warmed over and feel like it too. Going to work from home, think I need to move as little as possible. So much for my steps!
Have a good Monday all, H3l you're doing so well while away! Hope you're really enjoying it, sounds fab (apart from the donut!)

Oh + an almond biscuit thing, was very nice, freshly made, couldn't resist it, nor having an apricot with my brekkie today; must be honest with my transgressions although don't think one apricot is a tragedy!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/06/2016 09:38

One apricot definitely isn't a tragedy h3l3na You are doing fabulously!

I had to stop myself from buying a cooked breakfast from a cafe this morning. Shock I drive passed it every day on the way to the office and this is the first time, I've really wanted to stop and buy a breakfast.

I'm feeling quite lightheaded today and don't know if it's a bug, tiredness or hunger!

keepon well done on your weight loss and good luck on moving down a stone band - it's incredibly motivating!

notsoold · 20/06/2016 10:19

Hello newbie here. I got the book and watched the program.I also spoke to my gp that was indifferent to me doing it. I am borderline diabetc and had gestacional diabetes in every pregnancy.
Due to some problems here I will be unable to cook in the next week but would like to start as soon as possible.
I can do the slim fast as described on the Newcastle university trial and then eat my 200g of veggies raw. So 3 servijgs of slim fast plus a daily serving of 200g of veggies. But do I prepare the slim fast with me as recommended by the manufacturer or without as told by the Newcastle university. If so a serving made with milk would be 142.50cal.
pplease could you help me?
thanks.

notsoold · 20/06/2016 10:31

Sorry...200calories of veggies and not 200g

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/06/2016 10:41

Hi not so I'm not sure if anyone has been doing the shakes. In the book he sduggests doing 600 cals worth of shakes, so I suppose you need to tweak around with the quantities of milk to get the calories right. Do they specify slim fast or can you use other brands?

Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 11:42

I don't know much about going down the shake route but if it's only for a week I guess it can't harm? I'd imagine the sugar/carb levels would be still high but when you can cook you can address that. If you can manage to stick to it for a week, on those numbers you'll drop a few pounds. No idea whether prepping or another would make a difference. The milk will keep you feeling full at least. Best of luck
Had an egg & butter for lunch, soup planned for lunch, meatballs & peas with sauce for dinner. Starting to feel a bit better and I've moved all the bad food out of sight and therefore out of mind. On track for an 800 day

Week three here and less strong willed but sticking at it. Peanut butter is my downfall I think. Haven't eaten anything too carby except a huge spoonful of Nutella at the weekend which made me feel sick and horrible. Onwards! This was my lunch

Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 15:24

That looks lovely grace, I'd share a picture of my lunch but a mug of packet soup wouldn't entice anyone - although it's quite nice (msg all the way!) Managed to get a decent walk in so that's something. Petrified of what the scales will show so I'm holding off until tomorrow - bad news can wait.

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 15:27

Oh and advice on the pb, if you can't control it - chuck it. It's too calorific if you're trying to stick to 800, very easy to get the measurements wrong & be eating 120 calls worth instead of 60. This I have learned from bitter experience. Since you don't mind buying off amazon, look up pb2 powder. You can make pb from this with a lot less cals. I use the chocolate one in almond milk for an amazing "milkshake"

Clg199 · 20/06/2016 19:05

Thanks for all the encouragement - I've just eaten dinner of day 1 and have loved it. Well, I was slightly suspicious of the green tea and blueberry smoothie, but it tasted healthy!

I know one day is nothing and there's a long way to go, but the very first step is definitely a positive one Smile

Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 20:32

Day done at a shade under 800 - wasn't too tough and was going great until I had popcorn with the kids watching a movie, was craving crisps then! But I resisted. In bed now, going to some weight loss programs, my guilty pleasure 😁
I braved the scales and it wasn't as bad as I thought but tomorrow will be when I note my weekend gain. I was 11.2.6 on Friday so let's see how much carb bloat I have to lose before this Friday. 2 weeks to my holiday, if I get back to my lightest (11.0.8) I'll be doing well with all my weekend indulgences, I have enough time to turn the tide, pity it's like trying to turn a beached whale! Feel like a beached whale as well😉

GraceGildee · 20/06/2016 20:48

Thank you not2 I will get some of that, you're right, it's not good me having a jar of peanut butter around. I only mean to use it for sauces but it's too tempting!

Can I ask, has anyone had trouble with constipation? I have flaxseed every day and loads of water but I have IBS and things aren't moving as they should be.

Not2bObvious · 20/06/2016 22:25

Yep, constipation is a problem but it's also that you're eating probably half or less than you used to and limited fibre as no bread/fruit fibre etc. So it's no necessarily true constipation, just less bowel movements as well. I try to remember to take my psyllium husk capsules (with lots of water), but I keep forgetting. When I do remember consistently, they help give a regularity to processing iykwim. It evens itself out over time. I never found flaxseed any use and they're pretty calorific too, so I still to psyllium when I fricking remember

OP posts:
H3l3naGraham · 20/06/2016 23:57

Psyllium rules, take the powder in coconut water (the fructose free one) every morning, it will start working inside 2 days. Eating the pulses, etc also works! Signing off, sleep beckons...

APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/06/2016 07:42

I ended up eating chocolate raisins and ice cream yesterday but I have come to the conclusion that about once a week I am going to have a day where my carbs and calories are too high.
I was down another 1lb this morning. If I can lose another 1lb, I will have lost 1.5 stones since I started so that's my aim for the rest of the week 🙄

Not2bObvious · 21/06/2016 08:50

Morning all. Up to 11.5 so a gain of 2.6 over the weekend. Should be gone by Friday if I stick to plan... Just in time to wreck it all again over the weekend. Sigh. Either I'm going to have to stop drinking/reduce massively or I'm never going to hit goal the way I'm going. Sad bitter truth. I'll aim for reduce this weekend but of course I'm out on Friday and guest on Saturday. Did a 35 minute run this morning and as I covered 3.25 miles, I'm happy enough to call it a run. Definitely faster than my last 3, felt ok. Eggs/yogurt/nuts/chicken stir fry on the food plan today. Feel must better today thankfully. 1 day over carb/cals is perfectly acceptable place, your weigh loss shows this - good work😉

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/06/2016 09:32

Thanks Not2b Smile Well done on your run.

DS finishes up for the summer holidays this week so I'll need to come up with an eating plan for the summer since I won't have the structure of the school day to work and eat round about. I feel I'm on the cusp of either turning this into sustainable weight loss/way of life or tipping over into disaster! Hmm.

Not2bObvious · 21/06/2016 12:17

I hear you place, I did great on 5:2 for a long time (never broke the 11 stone mark though) and then I just couldn't hack it anymore. I wish I could turn the clock back and stop the point where I let the weight pile on, it happened so gradually. I didn't keep a check on my weight back then so I went from being 9.4 to 11.2 in about 2 years, then up to 13.7 - my highest non pregnant weight. I've spent nearly 20 years back & forth. And being miserable and obsessing about it. For all the good it did me. I work really hard on my children's eating to instill good habits, I would hate them to have my issues

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/06/2016 13:22

It's funny. 5:2 never worked for me. I did it for months and just lost and gained the same 7lbs! This has worked better but it's that feeling that it's never-ending because as soon as I stop logging calories, etc, I'll just slip back. as I did after losing 3 stones with Rosemary Conley
