Morning ! The more the merrier as far as I am concerned, welcome Moo - I have lots of blubber, no skinny-pins here in this house! Have lost 20lbs to date and despite a major sliding off the wagon on Sunday and gingerly stepping on the scales this AM, I have held the weightloss. RESULT!! I started off at 14stone (gulp) and am aiming for at least another 1-1.5 stone off by October (I want to celebrate my big birthday not my big bottom). We chat about everything here, the affect that low carb has on one's bottom area, wine cravings, you name it, we have no shame!

Hello Mellow - this is a great stream, lovely people!

Grin Grin at thoughts of little people eating the backs of their eggs, made my morning laughing at that one. If the eggs have no fillings, you could try breaking them into pieces & freezing the bits.....thawing (works fast) as and when, or does that make me Cruella-de-Ville on the parenting front.....

Welsh - that's a great result, you are motivating me to stick at it - the BSD Forum referees to the carb-flu you mentioned; posters also refer to how you might feel when the liver & kidneys are finally processing what's left in one's fat stores at later stages of the diet. Yuk. Not surprised you feel rough.

Saw a recipe for chicken pie this morning (that will teach me to look at Olive magazine) and my tummy growled loudly at the thought. No. No. No. Steamed salmon on a small bed of spinach for dinner tonight, fish is out of the freezer & thawing, chicken salad for lunch. Oh Frabjous day......

H3l3naGraham · 29/03/2016 10:19

zobalina - how long have you been on BSD now, sorry I can't remember?

zobalina77 · 29/03/2016 14:25

This is week 4 day 5. I have read that there can be a stall about now so I'm hoping it's just a normal thing.

H3l3naGraham · 29/03/2016 14:34

Yes, I remember now. Lots of people c4 weeks who post on the BSD Forum are finding they have issues about that time, am sure you are in that same 'body-space' as they are; they all stuck with it & started to lose again. I went on a long walk yesterday, nearly got blown over as I have started to realise that hey, the more I do the more the weight shifts. Strange that...... But as you are probably a good deal fitter than me then that kick-start won't necessarily work.

I'd stay on in there, perhaps do a different exercise (?) & keep on drinking water, the older the fat the tougher it is to shift.

Are you eating from the menu plan or improvising?

yumyumpoppycat · 29/03/2016 14:42

fingers crossed that whoosh comes really soon Zobalina

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/03/2016 14:46

Hi, I'm just place marking so I don't lose the thread. I bought the book last week with the intention of starting the diet yesterday but have picked up some type of stomach bug so although I was less than 800 cals yesterday it was nothing to do with the book and everything to do with feeling rubbish! Hopefully I'll be able to start properly tomorrow.

Not2bObvious · 29/03/2016 16:06

I've had a blip Sad Making the kids their lunch and ate some breaded chicken & a bite of crusty roll. First time since I've been on bsd that I wavered. I just felt too hungry, doing 16:8 today, broke my fast at 12.30. I know I'll learn from it (I will won't I?) I think I'll have to just get them to make their own lunch tomorrow lol!
Damn'nabit 😡

OP posts:
H3l3naGraham · 29/03/2016 16:40

I'm not so convinced that a few mouthfuls of breaded chicken and a bite of crusty roll are going to cause all your brilliant efforts to implode Not2b, pales in comparison to my litre (er, was it just the 1........) of red wine on Sunday and the 3 x 1/2 roast spuddies I scoffed in about 4 minutes......

Au contraire, you are to be congratulated on only having the 1 waver so far, I for one am not made of such strong stuff as you!!

zobalina77 · 29/03/2016 16:49

Thanks H3l3na. I'm improvising on some meals, but putting everything in mfp. I'm having around 45g of carbs a day and most of my % of food seems to be fats.

I seriously doubt I'm fitter than you! And some of my fat is probably 20 years old so will be stubborn.

H3l3naGraham · 29/03/2016 16:58

Just come back from 2 mile waddle-walk, nice & sunny, need the exercise, DH is boarding-in the attic, suspect he's using more calories.....

Your food balance seems ok Zobalina (but what do I know...) - I really hope that the weight starts to shift again for you, it must be hard to keep motivated when you hit a plateau; lots of my fat is old fat too, Dr M, says this is really stubborn to shift, so I am going to have a fun summer by the sound of it, but I know it can be done, so I am bloody well going to do it & I suspect you will too!

Let's get angry with our fat Wink !!

Not2bObvious · 29/03/2016 17:03

Stubborn fight? Mine is damn near militant😁 It's very very fond of my thighs, belly, abs- well I say abs but they resemble another set of boobs! A decent 36a I reckon. Yeah, let's get angry at it 😡 Going for a 40 min walk when dh gets home, may or may not eat when I get home, see how I feel. Totm approaching, I only get them every 2 or 3 months as I take my pill b2b due to ridiculous cravings when I take the week break. That could explain my lapse in control, but then again m&s breaded chicken steaks are lush....

mootime · 29/03/2016 18:45

Thanks for the welcome all.
I'm generally trying to do 5 TDEE and 2 800 but when I can I add extra 800 cal days.
I really struggle if I'm doing 800 cal days to find the right balance. If I eat lunch I tend to over eat later (like it kick stars my appetite) if I don't I can only manage 2 800 cal days. I guess I might try 2x 800, 2x 1000 and 3 TDEE....

Sounds like most of you are going for the full 800 for 8 weeks option which scared the bejesus out of me!
I think it would do me good, but with my current stress levels I think it's unrealistic.

Today hasn't been brilliant. Went out with the DC and dh and ended up having 2 big milky coffees and a bowl of soup which was meant to be pumpkin but I think was full of potato.. Confused

Back home tonight and no food in fridge so will will have to cobble something together!

H3l3naGraham · 29/03/2016 20:14

Mootime - one way to do this over the 8 weeks, is to try to switch your mind off calories and onto carbohydrates, restrict your carbs by eating plenty of carb-free or very low carb foods, like eggs, salmon, yoghurt, hummus - add veg, (not root ones) and you will feel full pretty quickly and still be on your calorie target of 800.

i have even managed to eat out in restaurants and it hasn't been noticed that I am dieting. My carb issue is wine, so I am dry 4-5 nights a week minimum, this is the only way I can do it, moderation is not in my wine dictionary..... this week I will only drink once as Easter Sunday was a write off....

Once a week I have a coffee when I go out, have swapped latte for cappuccino not perfect as milk is high carb, but it's a step in the right direction - I find that almost tricking my mind like this actually works and hopefully it will lead to a long term change in what I stuff into my mouth!!

Many of us are having a 1 or 2 day relaxation of rules every now & again, due to birthdays etc a lot of us are tightening our "food window" Eg eating in an 8 hour window ie16:8 it's all about finding what works for you & your way of life!

Not2bObvious · 29/03/2016 21:01

I agree with H3l, the 8 weeks are not as bad as you'd think in lots of ways (ignore my wailings earlier) The removal of bread/potatoes/pasta/rice/most fruit/anything obv sugary does cut your cravings a lot. I did 4 weeks pretty much on track (although I did have wine at points) and I was genuinely surprised how unbothered I was by lack of the forbidden foods, how well I was sleeping, felt pretty good alround.
Closing the day off at 900 and 12,000 steps, that'll do pig, that'll do 😉

OP posts:
mootime · 29/03/2016 22:35

Maybe I'll try and give it a go. I have a big appetite though and am pretty used to low carbing, so when I've tried it I find the 800 cals go pretty quickly.
dh and I are both on hols with the kids this week so I'm probably going to consider it a right off (although a low carb one!!) and just try to stick to TDEE. Maybe next week I'll try 800 cals for a week and see how it goes...

yumyumpoppycat · 29/03/2016 22:42

Moo it is possible you will find it actually easier than 5:2,as you settle into a rhythm. Some days are easier then other days and occasionally munchie/ socialising etc just strike and days end up being maybe 1200 but you are bound to end up having at least 2 really successful days a week where you have managed the 800.

I have had over 900 today but all early on so apart from 2 teas with milk will have had a decent fast by the morning; so feeling hungry hopeful scales might have moved tomorrow!

yumyumpoppycat · 29/03/2016 22:43

Defo wait for after hol though and defo dont try week leading up to totm!

Laska5772 · 29/03/2016 22:51

I reckon this is SO much easier than 5:2 ( having done well on both, but fell off the 5:2 wagon.. ) I'm now thinking that I will aim for 2:5 when I am down to my 'happy' weight , 5 days 800, and 2 TDEE (or a bit more) .. . so I can have Wine on a friday and saturday Wink.
The last time (on 5:2 maintenance ), I ended up forgetting the '2' altogether ! so thats why I am back here ...)

agteacht · 29/03/2016 23:26

Hi all

Newbie to BSD, saying hi on my first day.

I, like so many others, am a serial dieter, starting with WW a number of years ago, when I see successfully lost about 2.5 stone. Whilst I've never put it all back on, I have been struggling with a stone that, no matter what, always creeps back on. I managed to shift it again when I got married two years ago... however it's now firmly back on, plus a little more... sigh... it just creeps on when you're not looking!!

So here I am, hoping that the BSD can help me get back to a happy weight. In the first instance I am aiming for that 14 lbs loss, and if I get there okay I will figure out what the end goal is.

I have PCOS so this diet is very important to me from that perspective too. When I am lighter my symptoms are a lot better. And we are planning to start trying for a family this year.

I am 33, currently living and working in London (sub-text... trying not to burn out), recently back running 5k twice a week (something is better than nothing eh... but oh to be one of those people who jump out of bed to exercise in the morning.

Hopefully I've got to grips with the rules of this diet properly... However didn't manage the 800 kcal today, hit 878... eek but guess it might take a few days to get right.. and guessing it's normal to still feel hungry at first...!!

Looking forward to getting to know you all x

Not2bObvious · 30/03/2016 06:13

Welcome agteacht and well done on a sub 1000 calorie day, in my book anything between 800-1100 is a successful day. I reckon 8 weeks would see that back of that stone, and that would be doing this at 5:2 rate, 5 days @800-1000 and 2@tdee. Funny how generous tdee feels is when you've done a few days of 800.
Laska, would you not still be losing weight if you did 800 5 days a week? I have to admit to a tiny scary thought that I'd get hooked on 800 and would struggle to learn "normal" eating - my years of dieting have me conditioned to always diet. Of course that would be cause I never actually reach my goal! I guess I'll figure it out the last week of April.
Well W1P2 done and I'm down to 11.7.6 from 11.10 - v pleased with that.

Hi Folks!

I am just about to be done for murdering my iPad, it is driving me bananas, if I see that daisy-wheel again I might scream & scream until I am sick. Or something.

Hello Agteacht, nice to have you on board! One of my friends is hooked on WW, I have mixed views, essentially it doesn't retrain eating habits, I look at WW 'approved' sugar-loaded cakes & the like & can see that Heinz do very nicely out of it....Anyway, that's me on my bandwagon.

Dr M says the last bit of weight is the hardest to lose, as it's the oldest - old fat. YUK! The BSD diet is nutritionally sound and does work, the long-term goal is to try to retrain eating habits and once you've got over the absence of pasta, rice, spuds & the like, there is a good selection of food. Hope you have the book, it's essential reading as it explains the background and if you go on the BSD site, there are plenty more recipes that members have posted!

Most of us have worked out just how much slack we can cut without it having a catastrophic effect on our progress, there will always be good days & bad days, but at least the weather is getting milder & with Spring in the air, carb-fever eases a bit!

I have found some very high-meat sausages locally, so DH & I are having 2 each for dins tonight, with some home made ratatouille, not mash, which would of course be made with celeriac, if I could be bothered to peel one! DH on the same food is losing weight more quickly than me.........grrrrrrrrrrr Confused

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 30/03/2016 09:34

Hello. Can I sneak back in please?
I was on the thread ages ago but things happened and I lost my focus and resolve.
I've found it again so here I go.
I don't think I'm prediabetic but I definitely have an issue with carbs and overeating. Specifically wheat I think so I do really need to cut that out.
I just want to eat clean too and I love beans and lentils so I'm happy I can carry on eating those.

I'm aiming to follow a 'yoga camp' thing while I do this too so hopefully I'll look nicely toned as well.

I'm going on holiday in July and would love to lose 2.5 stone by then and look nice in flimsy summer clothes.

H3l3naGraham · 30/03/2016 09:53

Good morning woodenspoon - of course you can sneak back in, well done at finding your resolve again, I found mine in December when I realised that my ample trousers had a zip that wouldn't do up..... There are only so many legging thingummys I can wear, so started the food & booze wind-down then. I have lost 20lbs since starting dieting properly mid-Jan and my body shape is changing, as yours will too, especially if you increase your exercise levels.

It's not easy, no diet is, but it works, is healthy & you'll have us here to keep you company!

Good luck & keep us all posted Smile

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 30/03/2016 10:01

I can't wait for my body to change shape!
We just went away for a short break and I hated seeing my pics. I just don't feel like I look like myself.

I found this way if eating to be the easiest 'diet' I'd ever followed and was really enjoying it. I got ill and ended up only eating toast.
Once I start eating bread, I find it so hard to give up again but I have to as it triggers overeating for me.

Day 1 here and it's really hard but I'm not going to eat til 12. I need that fasting time to get back in control.

Not2bObvious · 30/03/2016 10:35

Nsv last night, having finished my even in meal, I was about to have some chocolate. And I just stopped. Thought. Said no! Drank my tea & sipped my water. Sounds so simple doesn't it? I knew it was just old habits creeping in cause there's lots of chocolate around (well hidden out of sight though!)
As you were 😉
