Hi! You are right Not2B mustn't let one major aberration colour the long-term, after all this is meant to be a lifestyle change, once DH & I lose our blubber, we plan on only eating simple carbs, spuds etc only as an occassional treat.

Had a lovely time with neighbour's yesterday, he's a great cook, started with home cured salmon & remoulade (not too naughty), kid, broad beans, asparagus & green beans. (All good as far as diet goes) then there were the spuds..........Not good as far as BSD is concerned, certainly not 3 x 1/2's ......nor was the wine (like land of living dead in our house today) Cheese board was scrummy & managed to eat it with celery not crackers and didn't have pud, but seem to have brought it home with me in a Tupperware along with the cream...... Or perhaps that was DH.....

So after clearing up the rubbish in our garden earlier (wind has blown over bins) we have had a small bowl of porridge with lite almond-milk and a small handful of berries, will be on herbal tea for the rest of the day then having the chicken in coconut milk recipe from the BSD book tonight, with addition of some peppers and green beenz.

But I should be doing what yumyumpoppycat did, fasting on herb tea!

We all seem to be back on focussing, which is good news.

Incidentally everyone, this is the petition from one of the BSD Forums, the Govt has decided to tackle diabetes & pre-diabetes with advice which recommends a lot of carb-rich foods, so one of the forum members, has started this petition, recommending that doctors look at the book & the research behind it - everyone on BSD is being asked to sign it and share it with everyone they can think of, personally & on social media channels.

H3Graham :

"the Govt has decided to tackle diabetes & pre-diabetes with advice which recommends a lot of carb-rich foods, "

Coujd you tell me where the above bit comes from please. I clicked on the petition, but the petition did not take me to the original article : ie the gov's recommendations.

This is the bit I need to see. it really does make me so angry. I've been a type 1 diabetic for 40 years and I can't believe the government is still traipsing out this shit : about we need to eat loads of carbs - this so behind the times, it makes me so cross.

H3l3naGraham · 28/03/2016 12:43

Hi Obs - if you go to the BSD website & tap petition into the search box, you'll find all the streams which mention the petitions.

Let me try & cut & paste the bit that got me going (on ipad, struggle to cut & paste on this, sorry,

I'll start to look now!

Petition
NHS to encourage the treatment of type 2 diabetes with a low carbohydrate diet.
Professor Taylor has shown that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed using a low carbohydrate, low calorie diet. The NHS has announced it is rolling out a programme to give pre-diabetics lifestyle help. There is no mention of the blood sugar diet which pre-diabetics and diabetics should be following.
▼More details
The programme will cost £7 million pounds to run. The dietary advice will be the same as that currently being followed. We have a diabetes epidemic so the old advice is not working.
Dr Maureen Baker, of the Royal College of GPs, welcomed the scheme but she warned “The long-term behaviour changes we need to see is hard to inspire”. However, there are forums for the Blood Sugar Diet which offer the support and inspiration needed which will also ease the burden on GP surgeries.

Sorry Judith. I think I fired off an email to you while I was trying to cut and past the text below. I have taken your original petition statement and moved it around a little bit based in the feedback we were given. What do you think?
Give diabetics and pre-diabetics the correct treatment.
It has been announced that by 2020, 100,000 pre-diabetics will be given ‘lifestyle help’ to
reduce the risk of developing diabetes. But this
‘lifestyle help’ is based on flawed research which
points to a high carbohydrate, low fat diet as being beneficial to pre-diabetics. This approach has been prescribed for years with few positive results for patients. Professor Taylor of Newcastle University has shown that, in fact, a low carbohydrate, high fat diet does have the ability to reverse Type 2 diabetes.
By 2020 the government’s scheme will cost £7 million. We welcome the intervention and the financial contribution to help battle ‘diabesity’. However, we believe that it would be money wasted if the same old methods are prescribed.
We request the government to consider Professor Taylor”s evidence and consider making it the foundation of the advice given to people with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes

H3l3naGraham · 28/03/2016 13:16

Sorry about this - Obs if you go to NHS England's site - I input into Google " help for 100,000 Pre diabetics & Diabetics" it comes up with a forum & Q&A, if you click on the questions about diet, it links up to Eat 4 Life's site, with the old eat more fruit, cut out fat, eat bread stuff, it's from this that the members of the BSD Forum got irritated about & why they started the petition. The breakfast recommendations for anyone tackling diabetes are startling.

Laska5772 · 28/03/2016 14:07

Am back,,, sorry aboutthe NSD/NSV typo confusing people!! I meant Non scale Victory.

Well, Carluccios was fine I had a fab rare beef, gorganzola and walnut salad, so good i'm going to make it at home! .. party was fun, but I did have quite a lot of of wine, so wasnt surprised to see the scales had gone up ( by 2lbs) yesterday morning.... But fasted all day and then had plain roast chicken salad for dinner . Today they had gone again.. V pleased... This is obviously the way to go.

So my 8 weeks is up, still the 19 lbs lost , but yes I'm going to carry on with the 800 cals as I want to lose this final 10lbs.. I dont have anything to go to for 3 more weeks when we are away again for the weekend, so really going to go for it for those 3 weeks, ( planning on no more Wine until then, so maybe I can crack it .. ) .

Have signed the petition, I thought when I heard the news on the new Gov t initiative on Diabetes that they obviously have not even considered the low carb evidence ( just same old same old ..)

Breadandwine · 28/03/2016 14:37

I've signed the petition, and spread the word via Facebook, twitter and email.

Very well done, Laska! So pleased to see you back in the zone.

Another example of how weight that goes on fast comes off fast as well!

Obs2016 · 28/03/2016 14:39

No no H3, that's fine, thank you. Twats!! Angry

H3l3naGraham · 28/03/2016 14:49

That salad sounds scrummy Laska I have a piece of steak in the freezer that's too big for one & too small for the 2 of us, so that sounds like a winner, thank you!

Non Scale Victory, ha, got it now!! Wink

Thank you all for signing the petition, I am emailing it to friends too, hope it gets the numbers we need for the Govt to take notice.

Not2bObvious · 28/03/2016 15:45

Oh I like the sound of that salad Laska but is Gorgonzola blue cheese? I'd have to find alternative, love walnuts. My fav evening snack is a slice of mature cheddar with a couple of walnuts, very tasty/filling for rapid 120 Cals. I wish I could sign that petition but I'm not in the UK, I'm not diabetic but can see how ridiculous the current diet reco's are, be maddening for people to continue eating low fat muck & high carbs, possibly damaging themselves even further. I really despise the LF message, skewed my thinking & diet for too many years. Got my 10,000+ steps in, so now relaxing with a glass of Wine after lunch. It is a holiday after all😉
Prepped my homemade coleslaw for the week, bought provisions for the next couple of dinners. Set for success I reckon

Laska5772 · 28/03/2016 15:58

Yes blue cheese , but it would be nice with another sharp cheese such as feta or a goats cheese. (and/or shavings of parmesan.. I had parmesan on mine also ! )

This is the description from their website: Beef, Gorgonzola & Walnut Salad: Thin slices of rare roast beef served on a bed of rocket, spinach and radicchio leaves served with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts and a balsamic dressing on the side...

, If you can get hold of raddichio , it really made a difference, If not any salad leaves .. (im going to make it later in the week with little gems and a packet of mixed salad leaves ) .. it was so yummy..

thanks B&W. x

welshbubba · 28/03/2016 18:33

Last episode of The Night manager was fab, am really sad it's finished!! (Need to get out a bit more!)
Weigh day today and end of week 1, part 2 have lost 9lb so very happy with that. Not feeling so great today - feels sort of like I have a hangover, headachy etc but I haven't touched a drop. Is this the carb flu people have mentioned??
Good to hear everyone is refocussing. I realised this morning I was actually looking forward to weighing myself! That's a first for me!

Not2bObvious · 28/03/2016 18:39

Oh my welsh that's an amazing loss! You must be delighted. I don't think I've experienced the carb flu in the last few weeks (more like too many carbs flu while on my break away!) so I don't know but I've a snuffilty/cold thing going on which is irritating. Hope you feel better soon.
Nibbled some eggs this avo, sadly not the real ones - damn you chocolate for tempting me! But at least I stopped at 1 and a tiny top up glass of wine.
Kitchen CLOSED

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 28/03/2016 18:41

Have signed petition also.

Struggled a little today, not really that hungry but haven't eaten very well under 900 though.

Well done Laska, enjoy your 3 hardcore weeks - fingers crossed for the 10lbs Shamrock I am aiming high this week too, hoping for 3lbs.

yumyumpoppycat · 28/03/2016 18:44

[tbunny] Obs. Kitchen closed with similar egg nibbling haven taken place here too!

Welsh that is fantastic, and carb flu hopefully means you are eating well so embrace it but it shouldn't last for long!

yumyumpoppycat · 28/03/2016 18:45

try again Easter Grin

welshbubba · 28/03/2016 19:33

Well a good proportion of that loss was the regained weight from my carb binge! But thanks Easter Smile. Still resisting the chocolate but my two dc have made up for me - very hyperactive at bedtime, think we may have to hide the choc from them tomorrow!

Not2bObvious · 28/03/2016 20:00

I was just saying that to dh, we have to put the eggs away for all our sakes! It's not fair on the kids seeing them there, and I've a nasty suspicion they'll end up with their back'side missing (as in when I check them I'll find they've eaten the side out of view) Or I'll eat them and they'll end up on my backside Blush

Hi there. I've been doing 5:2 BSD for about 6-7 weeks and have lost about 10-11 lbs. I've been lurking and posting but mainly on the 5:2 thread. However I have about another 30lbs to loose (although I'd be happy with 15 more as a good starting point!) and it feels like the 5:2 thread is largely people (very lovely people) with smaller weight loss goals. I'm making an assumption that this may not be the case here but I may be wrong! Somehow it feels like it might be more encouraging if I'm with other people in it for a long haul. Also, the low carb thing is pretty useful to chat about.

Anyway, I've general been very good at keeping the carbs low, but this weekend I have fallen off the wagon directly under a chocolate bus... Dh bought be a lovely dark choc one to have little bits on NFDs but I've wolfed down all the crab Cadburys ones at my parents...

So I'm going to try to do a FD tomorrow, but am out with the kids and dh all day. This will either make it easier or a complete nightmare!

Going off now to try and catchup on the thread since I last posted here.

Mellowautumn · 29/03/2016 00:36

Hi just found this thread, am a week into the BSD - ok to join in ?

Not2bObvious · 29/03/2016 07:12

Hi moo thanks for joining us from 5:2, if you're doing bsd this is probably a better spot to be in. No 500 calorie fasts over here, no siree- a decadent 800 we're surviving on. So you do 800 for 2 and then tdee for 5? Maybe tell us more of your story & plan & goal. Have you done the 8 weeks at 800? I'm doing 2:5, as in 2 days tdee splurge, 5 @800, this is my second go at it, 4 weeks the first time - 1 week off - and now on W1D7P2 ( you like my code😁)
Welcome Mellow, of course you can join in. Same question to you if you'd like to share but no obligation to either, just jump in.
Scales up to 11.9.8 from 11.8.6 on Sunday but then there's been a lack of movement shall we say. Tomorrows my official WI so not concerned, today will be completely on plan - Easter eggs hidden, kids would not go to sleep last night so that was threat which was really what I'd planned to do anyway! Bad mummy but I'll dole them out on weekends bit by bit.

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 29/03/2016 07:14

Oops sorry Moo you have told us your story, just wondering what you
meant saying 5:2 bsd, which way you were splitting it. Great losses btw!

zobalina77 · 29/03/2016 09:06

Still stuck on the same weight, it's been 8 days now and I am getting a bit despondent about it. I am feeling a bit bloated so wondering whether it could be totm. The problem is that I hadn't had a period since 2007 and then when I started the BSD I had one. I've heard of low carb eating stopping periods but not starting them.

Anyway, still hoping for a whoosh.
