Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

Ahh potty training, the 10th circle of hell quite possibly. It took me 2 goes with my eldest, she just wasn't ready the 1st time but 2nd time it clicked in about 3 long long long days. Hang in there elvish, this too shall pass, although you might find yourself muttering "would you like a try on the big toilet?" to random strangers or shouting it out in your sleep😁
Slept good enough, scales down to 11.10, last Wednesday I was 10.7.2 so that's a great start. Meant to say to Burgerbob well done on losing 18lb in 3 weeks, that's incredible! Close to a pound a day, wow

Not2bObvious · 23/03/2016 08:08

Oh no burger, crossed posts with you, but that's definitely just waste. I struggled dreadfully with this but someone mentioned psyllium husks and I remembered I had a big tub of the capsules (it's pricey but the capsules are cheaper) and I take 2 before dinner every day, this helped a lot. And it's natural. It may take a couple of days to get the rhythm going. I have taken laxatives before but they work once & everything grinds to a halt again. They have their place but only as a temp solution

Burgerbobismydad · 23/03/2016 08:21

I've taken sennakot and it hasn't done anything! Will look out for those psyllium things.

Just ate some of the bircher. Didn't like it at all. Probably the only person who doesn't!

Not2bObvious · 23/03/2016 08:25

I sometimes had to take 2 senokot but wait a few hours, it might kick off later. I rarely experienced the promised next morning relief the bag lady got (remember her? Bag full of leaves? If only it were leaves...)

TheOnlyPink · 23/03/2016 09:32

Hi everyone, been lurking here for a while and on day 3, so thought it was a good time to say hi!

I've done and had a bit of success with 5:2, so when I read the BSD, it was very appealing. Was worried about starting while my son's are off school for Easter, and with Easter looming. But I didn't want to put it off any longer, as I was afraid of the damage I would do in the meantime! So will probably take Easter "off" ie, eat the little egg my husband bought me. It's 536 cals for the whole thing.

I haven't told anyone I'm doing this. I've started and failed at so many diets, and I'm still the same weight I was 5 years ago. I couldn't face having everyone look at me and think "yeah right." Even my husband doesn't know. It's easy during the week, he leaves before I get up and I have a similar dinner, so he hasn't noticed, and he's used to fast days. He would be nothing but supportive, I know that, but I want to at least have a little bit of success behind me before I announce another change. I'm really embarrassed.

I have a lot of weight to lose, around 8st, and its always so slow, never more than 1lb a week. So I lose approx a st and then get fed up of being so strict and not getting anywhere that I give up and end up back where I started. Blush hoping a sharp shock will actually keep me going.

So that's my life story! Hope you're all well!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 09:44

Remember to drink lots of water or P husks etc wont work and things can get worse. I have been taking the odd spoon of psyllium husks too. I have been taking a powder one, you are supposed to mix it in water but I think it is better from a spoon chased with water or mixed into something like a smoothie.

potty training {curls up and rocks silently remembering public place wee incidents and a certain park poo trauma} defo agree, give it a week and if its not working pack it in for a couple of months, when they are ready it always goes smoother.

I am almost down to my lowest weight from last week again now but I have to admit I am beginning to think it is not worth cheating! Guess the trick is to find the balance where we can have an indulgence without spending an entire week catching up. I have a hol with meals out coming up, it is going to be tricky!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 09:49

Sorry welcome Pink and don't be embarrassed many of us are probably serial dieters, I really am and I think that's why people aren't commenting on me having lost weight, they are just too used to seeing it go up and down, at least I hope it's that! Quite a few of us are also not really going into details with f&f about what we are doing either so you are not alone at all! That's the good thing about coming on here you can 'talk' about it as much as you like so you dont need to bring it up.Well done on getting started!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 10:16

here is a recipe for banana nut bread, I had a slice and froze the rest, not sure how well it will freeze. Its not really a bread replacement more a cake replacement! I worked it out to be 250 cals per slice but could be more or less depending how accurately you measure and number of portions etc.

9 - 11 portions
3/4 cup ground almonds
2 cups of whole pecans (use less if using already chopped nuts etc) chopped in a blender, coffee grinder or food processor etc
1 teaspoon psyllium husk powder Grin
2 eggs
1 large banana (v ripe)
1 small tablespoon of maple syrup (or honey) - this might not be necessary
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 small tablespoons of oil

Oil a small non stick loaf tin using a little from the 2 tablespoons worth
blend /process or chop the nuts, then pour into a bowl and add almonds, husks and baking powder.
Use the same blender/ processor to mix the eggs, banana, maple syrup and oil and mix into the dry ingredients.
Pour into the greased loaf tin and bake on 160 degrees (fan oven) for approx 40 minutes (you might need to cover with foil if it browns too quickly) use a spatula to loosen the loaf and gently tip it out to cool. A lump of my loaf fell out when I made this and tried to tip it out so I could see it wasn't cooked through so I pushed it back in and baked for a bit longer .

TheOnlyPink · 23/03/2016 10:28

Thanks so much yumyum appreciate the welcome!
People automatically comment on my weight now, even if I haven't lost an ounce, they know I'm always on a diet! So far so good with this one. Finding it hard today though, feeling hungry for the first time. Drinking loads now and will be busy for the afternoon, so hope that helps!

That banana bread looks gorgeous, would be fab for weekend brunch!

Not2bObvious · 23/03/2016 10:52

Welcome TheOnly, same as yum said I think lots of us are the same, keeping it quiet. I learnt my lesson with 5:2, the amount of lectures I got about starving myself - eh hello do I look starved? and then the fateful day my SIL said well it's obviously not working for youHmm True but v harsh. Anyway well done for speaking up, lovely to have so many on board
Ooh we need a new thread! Not sure of etiquette, does Yd need to do it (or want to?)

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 11:14

Can't imagine YD will mind if we start a new thread but still 14 messages so hopefully that gives her time to start one. Do we want to do a fancy linky one or just a quick here's the new thread?!

HanYOLO · 23/03/2016 12:07

The banana loaf sounds really nice. But I don't think I could stop at one slice! Maybe if/when I get into a maintenance mode!

Welcome pink, nice to have you with us. Also keeping the diet on the downlow. Have hidden the book anytime anyone comes round, especially my mum whose theory on my previous lack of weightloss has always been that I don't eat enough Confused. Old myths I guess.

I think when trying something that is as challenging as this diet (because, let's face it, it is) the last thing you want to have to do is defend the thinking about it, because let's face it none of us are in this to spread the word about the diet, just to see if they can improve their own health. So yeah, keeping schtum.

Hungry today but trying to keep to 16:8 and ate out last night with a friend (trendy tapas-y type place, felafel, roasted cauliflower, fennel salad, all super delicious), and DH and I will be eating late tonight so trying to wait till 2. Fourteenth cup of herbal tea on the go.

On the upside I really don't hanker after sweet things at all at the moment. I have a jar of cacao nibs that I have a pinch from if I fancy chocolate. I seem to have got rid of the diet coke habit too. Though I am never saying never again on that one .

I've found my - er - bathroom habits - have changed a bit. From every day to every other day. Not clogged up but eat mostly vegetables and have a protein shake which has flax, chia and psyllium in it most days (currently Purition vegan brand but have bought constituent parts to DIY it when the pack runs out - cheaper and no stevia) . I reckon there is just a smaller volume of food there, maybe?

HanYOLO · 23/03/2016 12:07

oh linky if we can, don't want to lose people!

H3l3naGraham · 23/03/2016 13:14

Hi All! Been offline - I think I might need to kidnap a BT engineer, if it's not the TV Box thing it's the Internet.....

Not2BObvious you posed an interesting question - what's my target? I have been thinking target in terms of dress size, a 14 seemed like a dream when I 1st started, but I now realise that I need to think in terms of weight. I am now 12st 12lbs, having lost 16lbs in total 1stly on the Sirt Diet & now BSD, I am getting my brain around being 11stone, which I'd like to do by October, for 2 big events. I am 5ft 4.5ins high (?!) but in the past this weight always seemed to look good on me, but I was younger & fitter and as we age we are meant to think a bit leaner, aren't we. Thanks for the steer about Charity Shops, when I next drop my size 18 & 20's off, I shall look for jeans & 'bottoms' my chest is still hanging on in there (hanging being the operative word......) so my tops are more or less ok!

I swear by psyllium husk in 'times of need' and Holland & Barret have an offer on in store at the moment, buy one and get the 2nd 1/2 price. I have Cocoa nibs left over from the Sirt diet so am nibbling these too HanYOLO - they seem to do the trick if I get the urge for a sweeter nibble.

Not2bObvious · 23/03/2016 14:00

We're height twins H3l😬 I was 12.13 around this time last year and having gone done to my lowest of 11 stone once, it's definitely a nice size, I looked great at that (well I thought I did...preens at memory😉) I would LOVE to be 9.11 but not at the cost of my face, I've 2 super skinny sisters (7st & 8st'ish) and both were stunners when a stone heavier- one now has early osteoporosis and both are looking gaunt and older than they are. I'm a good few years younger and intend to also stay looking like that for as long as possible. I don't want 8 on my label but 88 on my face. At the least I want to be under bmi of 25 for once in my adult life, so 10.5 is maybe a better goal for me.

Not2bObvious · 23/03/2016 14:20

yum One with a link would be great, no idea how to do it though😞 Any volunteers? 8 posts to go😱

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 14:45

Not 2 be love your smilies!

I always lose from my face first so resigned to looking haggard and thin of face and fat of body sigh, sadly my boobz always shrink next. I am 5ft 4 (almost) at my heaviest about 2 years ago I was 183 lbs/ 13 stone. My aim at the mo is another 10 lbs to bring me down to 139lbs then I will assess the face vs body situation.

7 posts to go.....

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2016 14:46
