Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

And its another pound off today!! 10.11.5 !!!! An effin' miracle.. I will be such a happy bunny if that stays off..

Ham omelette for breakfast ( I was really hungry) .. more chicken salad for dinner I think.. ill be making chicken stock/soup for the rest of the weeks lunches

I do think keeping off booze is the key .. We have a family wedding to go to next weekend and that will be the whole weekend away . I wil have a drink or two then , I know. Wedding is on Friday, then as so many of DHs family are congregating for this wedding , it will be a big weekend with lots of Wine opportunities.. .

so Im going to be super strict this week and then get straight back on it after the weekend for another week or so more. Then ill decide whether im going onto the 5:2 Mediterranean diet Dr M recommemds as the next stage. .. My 'official' 8 weeks will be up at the end of this week..but im thinking I might stay on it until i get to goal weight anyway , (thats 10 st) and then go to the 5:2 Med for maintenance.. .

It feels pretty good though having this nice possibility to think about , especially as I was so down when I hit over 12st in January .. ..

yumyum I didnt cut enough slices of lemon tart deliberately!!! .. only they didnt count them and thought id taken mine! (but believe me, if id wanted some i'd have fought anyone to the death who took my bit!!Grin)

Elvish · 13/03/2016 15:32

Hi everyone, looks like you have all had a good weekend one way or another Grin

Despite the significant amount of gin I consumed last night I didn't go too far over and had about 1200 cals yesterday. Only eating one meal and drinking a lot is not really recommend but it's a one off.

I didn't get chance to do my weekly weigh in early yesterday so did it this morning. Another 4lb off which makes a stone in 3 weeks.

So still very happy and motivated and focused on next week.

Not2bObvious · 13/03/2016 16:27

Another pound off Laska is brilliant & Elvish & Cheby you're both flying it. Did 10,000+ steps in my walk but now having Sunday Wine But just one 2 Starting to feel human again tg

Obs2016 · 13/03/2016 16:33

Pleased for you all. Well done.

You all seem to find it very easy to stay under the 800. I haven't managed it once since I started.

Laska5772 · 13/03/2016 17:00

Obs MFP is your friend.. log Everything

Typical day for me ( and yes I am sort of sticking to these foods each day , but I dont get bored of it)

Breakfast 2 egg scramble egg cooked with butter ( sometimes 3 eggs!)

Lunch :soup , often a packet of miso soup with mushrooms spring onion and cucumber.courgette shreads.. with splash of chilli . Tasty and feels like you have had a meal.

Dinner is usually chicken breast (or steak . or pork about 150g ) and something like red pepper and spring onion sliced and stirfried in a little olive oil, a few mushrooms and garlic poached in stock added in ,and served with a great big pile of greens of some sort. I often have a little greek yoghurtand dijon mustard either added with mushrooms as a sauce..
Sometimes instead of greens I have courgettes

Sometimes salmon , but if so have my veg plain.. I like brocolli or courgetti, and a splash of soy sauce and chilli with it

I drink black coffee, green tea , loads of fizzy water with ice and lemon , mint tea Ive also been having 2 squares of very dark choc in the evening as a treat ..
( I am not diabetic though.. I dont know if that would be ok for you )

NO SNACKING !!

Not2bObvious · 13/03/2016 18:13

obs, you said a few messages ago you'd lost a stone? And you've maintained that yes? So now you've joined mfp & the bsd website (I'm there too😁) You're learning new things all the time, and you'll put them into practise. Personally I only manage 800-900 around 3 days a week so I'm not there yet either, the rest of the time I'm 900-1100 and a couple of days I'm at 1500-1600. It's a far cry from my 1600-3000 I was doing before. Like people starting 5:2, advice is start at a higher number and work your way down. The 800 is only meant to be for 8 weeks, not always. Why don't you try 1000 twice/thrice a week and 1300-1500 on the other days, alternate it. You'll still lose weight I'm nearly sure (well as I can be since I know sfa about t1) And be proud you lost a stone, you're halfway there if you only want to lose 1 more. If it takes 2-3 months so be it. I know that's what I'm looking at and I'm good with that. I needed to break the cycle of starving during the week & losing the plot on weekends, and going low/moderate carbs is working for me, about the only thing that's worked in 15 years of dieting

yumyumpoppycat · 13/03/2016 18:28

Laska Grin

Keep going everyone!

Obs 800 is very hard I am usually over. I do wonder about myself aiming for 700 so then I go over but stay under 800!

I had gained this am for no obvious reason, but had 1200 cals today thanks to a roast this evening so might stay off the scale tomorrow!

Sputnik · 13/03/2016 19:00

Obs don't be too hard on yourself, none of us are struggling with the T1 issues you have. Like Not2be I only hit 800 maybe half of the week and cut myself some slack at the weekend. I accept that the weight loss is going to be slower but that's ok.

Cheby · 13/03/2016 19:11

The key to sticking to 800 for me is to weigh everything and put it all into MFP. We meal plan for the week ahead so we can plan calories. At weekends we have 2 meals a day, and I often skip breakfast at work in the week because I'm busy so I don't feel hungry.

Breakfast (if I have it) is usually 100g cottage cheese with a slice of ham, or a poached egg with 2 rashers of grilled bacon from the canteen at work. Lunch is usually soup, but I've also had the Mediterranean platter and cheesy beans with mushrooms from the book.
In the evenings we have a few nights which are grilled meat or fish with a load of steamed green veg, but I've also made low carb versions of our normal family meals (we have lasagne with courgettes instead of pasta, and half fat creme fraiche instead of béchamel sauce, spag bol with courgette/carrot spaghetti, cottage pie bulked out with lots of leeks, mushrooms and onions, and celeriac mash, all made with extra lead steak mince). Literally everything goes into MFP as a recipe; I measure cooking oil by the teaspoon etc. I can then go back and amend/use those recipes easily in future.

weighing really is key; for example recipes often say '1 chicken breast', but what they means is 125g and idem supermarket chicken breasts are more like 200g each.

ScoutandAtticus · 13/03/2016 19:48

Hi all. You have all done so well. I have decided to restart the 8 weeks. I have recorded everything on MFP today and I am going to log in here daily to keep focused. I have had a smidge over 1000 calories. Blush Scrambelled eggs for breakfast kept me full until 3pm. Shock Lunch was a small salad and halloumi. I only ate because I nibbled a pretzel and could feel myself slipping. We had roast dinner which for me was 2 small lamb steaks cooked slowly for 3 hours in garlic and herbs. I had a very tiny roast potato and one of DHs legendary potatoes. I also weighed myself and see I have put on 2 lbs since the last time. Grrrr. That will hopefully be fine by Wednesday when o plan on weighing again.

Elvish · 13/03/2016 22:15

I have been finding 800 a day quite easy.

I usually have full fat Greek yoghurt for breakfast with blueberries - 160cals

Lunch is salad, no dressing with protein like prawns, tuna or chicken. All last week this was pre-packed stuff from the supermarket. About 200-300 cals.

For dinner I have a fairly standard meal and replace the carbs. So chilli with cauli rice, pasta sauce with corgetti, stir fry pork or prawns with home made sauce and lots of bean sprouts rather than noodles, salmon fillet / steak / chicken with a stack of green veg no potatoes. All stuff which is easy to adapt from our usual family meals so DH and I are eating the same stuff. The evening meals usually come out at 300-500.

So with no snacks or milk in drinks etc I'm usually under target. At weekends we've had higher cal evening meals and I've skipped breakfast or just had a banana for lunch to allow for that.

Not2bObvious · 14/03/2016 07:02

I'm my own enemy on the 800 calorie front, my actual 3 meals would be around that - I feel I just have to have a small snack in the evening. I know I know, no snacking rule but quite honestly I want/need something. The trick that I need to learn is to limit it, sometimes I'm great, I can have a slice of cheese and a couple of walnuts (c 120 cals) and that puts me around 850-900 but other days I then have a yogurt as well and I'm at 1000-1050. It's still very low to what I used to have but it's surely affecting the effectiveness that a true 800 a day would have given me. I think it's the difference between my losing 14 pounds over the 4 weeks and my most likely 10 pound end result. But hey, I've never lost 10 pound in a month so I'm still winning. And I think my slightly more lenient approach is working for my psyche. All that being said (Apols for navel gaze so early on a Monday!) I want to stick very strictly to 800 today & tomorrow so I'm as low as can be before I head away on Wednesday. Wish me luck!

Elvish · 14/03/2016 07:19

Good luck Not2b.

I eat late during the week, once the kids are in bed and we've cooked it's usually 8.30-9pm. So I'm still full at bedtime. My problem is 4-5pm, when I used to eat something at work to "keep me going", I've needed quite a lot of willpower to get over that, but I'm at work so I have something to distract me.

May sound stupid, but would something to occupy your hands work? Like knitting or colouring in? Eating with the tv on is so easy I find.

Or could you prepare your snack in advance and have some carrots / celery dipped in natural yoghurt dip? Try to make your snack more like 50 cals...

Not2bObvious · 14/03/2016 08:17

Thanks Elvish, my issue is probably that I have my evening meal before 6 (or even 5 some days) so there's too much evening left. I did try crochet the first couple of weeks, crocheted a round and then ripped it out & started again 😁 I should start again when I get back from hols but do a square a night, imagine I did bsd full pelt for another 4 weeks, I could have a fab cushion cover! Yes as well to preprepped snack & leaving it at that - 2 days to go, I started at 12.2.6, hoping for 11.6.6 (11.8 after weekend silliness)

Obs2016 · 14/03/2016 08:37

Thank you to you all: Laska, not2, yummy, Sputnik.

ErnesttheBavarian · 14/03/2016 08:40

What time do you all go to bed? It's amazing how varied we all are. No way could I eat at 8 or 9 at night. Firstly I couldn't possibly wait to long. And secondly I hate going to bed feeling full. I try 6o be in bed by 10.30 latest. Prefer to eat about 5.30 but usually it's more like 6.30. I rarely feel the need to snack if an evening but if I really gave to gave something I gave a hot cup of soya milk. I'll also have one if at say 4.30 I'm starving and can't wait till dinner. The double plus as well as staving off the hunger and snacking urges is also it fills me up so I don't eat so much dinner.

Weigh in today .4 kilos down so that's half a kilo in 2 weeks. But 2 kilos in 3 weeks. Would have been better but my booze ruined it. Have learnt my lesson!

Obs2016 · 14/03/2016 08:41

Also Cheby and elvis.
I am Reading everything you all post.

I have been logging everything onto MFP. yesterday was the first time ever I have got below 800.
Yesterday I only had 700.

I have been very very strict since I last posted.

Today I weighed. I've lost 2 pounds.

I'm heading towards the scales changing units from one stone to another.
That's the bit that really excites.

Say, If you start of 12 stone, once it goes down to 11, once it goes down to 10...

I want to get so that the scales don't say 10, they say 9 something. That is my goal.

Burgerbobismydad · 14/03/2016 08:53

Grrr. Weighed this morning and I've put on 1lb! How is that even possible?! I'm hoping it's a salt thing.

Will drink loads of water today to see if I can rectify it.

ErnesttheBavarian · 14/03/2016 08:58

Ons well done! I know what you mean. I usually measure in kilos but I sometimes see what it is in stones and feel chuffed if I've crossed over the stone into the next.

My sil has booked to come over. She is always so slim and we'll dressed so I have a goal. 3 weeks! Plus of course the summer.

Weekdays are much easier than weekends. Sigh. It's a question of 3 steps forward and 2 steps back.

HanYOLO · 14/03/2016 08:59

Weighed in - have lost 4kg total in 2 weeks based on this morning's weight (though I was nearly 1kg lighter yesterday morning...ggrrr). So that is 1.7kg in week 2. Still very happy with that - and more importantly getting into the groove of it a bit I think, managing to keep between 750 and 900 per day and under the carb limit. Coffee is my new best friend, though, to get me through the mornings.

Having said I am going to have most of my calories in the morning I think actually a 16:8 approach is going to work better for me and am aiming for 12 - 8 all this week and see how that goes. It actually made me pause and not pick at bits and pieces through the evening.

It is also working wonders for my yoga - practicising on an empty stomach is so much better. NSV - held 2 sorts of headstand for a minute yesterday - actually in a class - thrilled! And managed my first ever bird of paradise - I am sure it was because there was slightly less belly and thigh to contend with.

I'm learning so much and being motivated so much from you lot - thanks for the collective energy and inspiration. Elvish your week's menu sounds delicious.

Worrying a bit about Easter. We always spend it with friends, 2 families who we have known since student days, now got matching kids with our own. Going to theirs and I know there will be gorgeous food and wine everywhere. Not to mention the customary Sunday chocolate binge. I think I can resist that but not sure about my mate's excellent cooking.

Obs2016 · 14/03/2016 09:55

Laska, aren't you aiming for a similiar weight as me?
But I think I am shorter than you.
I'm only 5'2''. (actually, I'm more like 5' 1.5'' !!!!!)

I was the same weight my whole life. For 20 years, from age 15-35, I was in between 9 stone and 9.5 stone. Once, through pressurised job, I accidently dropped to 8 3/4 and all my friends and family were really worried because I looked gaunt and ill. After the birth of both my boys, I lost all my pregnancy weight very quickly, without trying.

But I knew I was getting bigger. and I was very very miserable.
so, when I started this, in the begining of Jan 16, I was HORIFIED to see that I weighed:
11-7 Shock

I am now 10-4

I'm waiting for that drop, for the scales not to show 10 anymore, but a 9.
I doubt I'll ever get down to 9 stone again. but 9.5 and maintenance to keep it roughly there. Is my aim.

ErnesttheBavarian · 14/03/2016 11:05

Snap Hanyolo. I also am worrying about Easter. I've tracked my weight for 2 years now and I have 3 big peaks - Christmas, Easter and summer holidays. I think it's actually being in the UK itself that's the problem. Like I said here in Germany I have very little (on a daily basis - no) access to GF food, whereas in Uk there's loads, plus we eat out a lot, plus all the sweets, that again I can't get here. All those extra treats are bad enough, but then they trigger sugar cravings which actually seem to take me weeks, literally weeks to get over and get back under control. In the meantime, I have regained everything I've lost, then I have to start all over again.

So I have had this patter for the last 2 years. gr. not sure if this easter will be any better.

H3l3naGraham · 14/03/2016 21:14

Hmmmmm....... And there was me so happy I'd lost a stone.....took me 6 weeks of Sirt to do it, got down to 13st...... (Sad) But reading your posts I can see that you are all sooooooo much slimmer than me, I'd give a lot to be 11.7 at the moment....... I've cut out all complex carbs except for 1 slice of heavy-duty quality rye bread on a Sat AM, Since December I have given up alcohol 5 days a week & cut back MASSIVELY what I drink on the remaining 2 days, I am walking as much as poss. I am dreaming about being 12st......Then 11.....

Laska5772 · 14/03/2016 21:29

Obs yes 10st . I am 5'5, I thinkthat s a nice weight for me , slim not skinny , . This time I want to maintain it ( i went up 2 stone , admittedly it took 3 years , but I am so cross with myself f r having to lose it all again .

H313 you should be really happy with your stone, Ive lost a stone in 6 weeks also , but it really doesnt matter if you were heavier when you started and even still now ,than me for example.

What matters is that its working , and you can do it ..and that we are all supporting each other .. its hard to lose weight and even harder on your own.

I weighed almost 14st in 2006 when I got remarried. I got down to about 11.10 VERY slowly on things like weigth watchers and nearly gave up so many times, then finally discovered and lost it all on 5:2 with the help of people here on MN . But as I said, only to slide off and then put 2 stone back on in the last 3 years .

Its a constant battle with me I'm afraid. I like my food and Wine too much.. Hopefully this time Ill have finally learned..

Not2bObvious · 14/03/2016 21:43

Oh H3l I hear you, when I was 13.7 (or at my pregnant worst 16st) I'd dream of being 12 something and so on & so forth. You'll get there once you keep at it, it's just sad it doesn't happen overnight. I've had a very very bad day dark dark day
I can't confess what I did ok ate as I'm too embarrassed😳 I feel tired and bloated now, and annoyed at myself. Self sabotage, the bitch, came to visit. Cals aren't too shocking just the content. I can do nothing now but resolve to learn from it
