Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

I'm no expert but I've read that going under 50g carbs per day will put you in ketosis. There won't be enough carbs in your body to burn at that point so you will start burning fat, whether from your food or your own fat reserves.

Sputnik · 15/03/2016 20:55

According to this ketosis also stops you feeling hungry, you can take your salt back Yummy!

ScoutandAtticus · 16/03/2016 06:59

Shock Shock

I was 13st 2 on Monday and am 12.10 today.

I have even been weighing a heavy pan on the kitchen scales and then holding it whilst reweighing myself to check my scales are right.

I realise it must be some random body thing, but still!!

ScoutandAtticus · 16/03/2016 07:03

Just realised I weighed on Sunday after having wine in Sunday. I wonder if it's something to do with fluid retention from alcohol. I am due to weigh in 3 days so will see how it goes. I will have to resist the urge to weigh daily Grin

ScoutandAtticus · 16/03/2016 07:09

Glinda I can't stand logging and all that either but weirdly I am quite enjoying it now. I started a few weeks ago ( with more days off it than on as I fell off the wagon) and started by writing a 4 week food plan with all the calories worked out so I didn't have to weigh every morsel. Its worked about 50% of the time unless I have wanted soemthing else or needed to eat food before it goes off rather than stick to the menu.

Obs2016 · 16/03/2016 07:45

Scout and Glinder, me too re logging. The idea of logging everything into MFP filled me with dred. I couldn't be like those other obsessive women logging everything - what a pain in the ass.
But I was over on my calories. So I did it. And once you've done if for a few days, you find you have all your regular goods already saved and then it's really easy.
And then it becomes quite addictive and satisfying!!

zobalina77 · 16/03/2016 09:06

After clinging onto my 2lb gain from Saturday nights shenanigans, I have just weighed myself to find I've lost 5lb overnight! I'm starting to feel so much better, my skin looks better.

I am struggling to do any exercise on 800 calories though. Even walking upstairs can be shattering. I do about 10000 steps a day between the school run and at work so I hope this is enough.

HanYOLO · 16/03/2016 09:18

I couldn't stand the idea of the logging either. But I too am getting into it. (nerd/data freak so why wouldn't I?). But the great thing about it on 800s theres jus tnot that much to put in!

H3l3naGraham · 16/03/2016 09:21

There are some fascinating things happening to us aren't there? zobalina & Scoutandatticus on the Sirt diet I noticed that if I went, er, 'slightly' over the red wine allowed ie 3-4 glasses on occasion (oops) then the scales showed it immediately, am positive it was fluid-retention as I lost the extra 2lbs or so, very quickly. It is a lesson though & since December I have dropped to only drinking twice a week - another result is that my alcohol tolerance has diminished, my days of dancing on tables seem to be over......

Porridge made with water for brekkie today, chicken salad for lunch, determined to keep carbs out & keep on losing weight! Good luck with your weekly weigh-ins!

Obs2016 · 16/03/2016 09:54

H3Graham at her best!!
No, don't stop, we have to have SOME excitement here!! Wink

Obs2016 · 16/03/2016 09:56

Ydragon, as OP, are you getting ready for thread 2? We've almost finished this one!!

haven't we come FAR??!!

Elvish · 16/03/2016 13:17

Hi Everyone,

I feel like I've not been about for ages, not had time to post due to small people. Anyway, I'm back at work today so I have a lunch break!

After my post about not weighing more than once a week I totally contradicted myself and bought some scales yesterday Hmm which has shown that my weigh in on Sunday was clearly too early to show the impact of the gin and I'm not 1lb over what I was on Sunday.

Anyway, going to focus more this week and keep off the booze at the weekend and hopefully I will have another loss by Sunday.

Interesting posts about ketosis, I've been wondering how I can tell if I'm there or not. I'm off to read the links and reset MFP to 50g of carbs Smile

H3l3naGraham · 16/03/2016 17:23

Yep Obs2016 that's me all right...... In my glory days, back in the last century..... Or so it seems! DH is losing weight too, he's also down 1st & has to tie his belt 2 notches tighter, so he's well on board, which helps. When I announced no booze this weekend he hasn't batted an eyelid, I know we need to be totally alcohol-free for the 8 week diet, but I am having to work up to it, having started with the food 1st, he has lots of work-based things to attend in the evenings so will find that harder, but if he can get down to 5 dry days a week like me, that has to be a good thing. I have my shopping list ready for the next few days & we have enjoyed the food we have had this week from MM's book, tasty recipes, easy to follow.

Good luck with the ketosis (sounds like something from Star Wars) everyone, I'm well off there but on the road to attainment!

PS Would kippers on Sunday break the rules as a brunch option...?

Laska5772 · 16/03/2016 20:56

I reckon Im in ketosis , have been very strict this week as have a fab dress to get into for a wedding on Friday . And its working ,! was 10.10.5 this morning! so thats19lbs in 7 weeks!! ( i realise now I am on week 7 not 8) , GrinGrin

However I fully expect to put some back on over the weekend , as its a big family do , ill not be able to not drink and eat all low carb,, will try my best. If I can stay under 11 stone when i weigh in on Monday morning ill be happy (ish! I dont want to put on any weight at all!) , . ill be straight back on it anyway ..

Last summer I realised that I simply could not fit into most of my clothes any more,Sad but decided that Id pack them all away and if I still couldnt get back into them this summer they would have to go and i'd have to accept that i wasnt going to lose the weight again..
..
Well it took me i until DrMs BSD to come out in January (Michael Mosely is my superhero!) , to even seriously start to diet , but today I dragged that suitcase out (it was inthe cupboard where the suitcase I need for this weekend was ) and had a sneaky look (will go through properley it next week when I am back) ..I reckon Ill be able to get back into most of those clothes already!!.

Also I tried on some jeans from the every bottom of my wardrobe, (you know the ones lurking underneath all the bigger ones! Wink . I got into a couple of pairs of sz10s! (still a couple more too small , those I got into must have been big 10s )

so Motivation to watch what I do over the next few days.. fingers crossed ,, ( iwil have some Wine though, its a wedding and family do.. (Life is for living after all ..and I know what to do next week )

Breadandwine · 16/03/2016 22:59

That's good to hear, Laska!

I hope that lovely dress you bought in the early days of 5:2 is one of those you can get into again! A wraparound thingy, IIRC?

And about putting on weight this weekend - you know the quicker weight goes on the quicker it comes off again.

Have a lovely weekend - knowing you're back in the zone! Smile

Laska5772 · 16/03/2016 23:13

Hi Breadandwine .. Look, you 5:2 'oldies' were not supposed to know just how much weight I put back on!! It was a (v.shameful) secret, I didnt think anyone I knew then would be reading here . .

Still got that dress, it was a real skinny minnie one.. One day soon ..

Hope you are well, ( I know you never had to loosenthat belt notch.. I dont know how you do it with all that bread,.. its a killer for putting on weight fo rme..)

Elvish · 17/03/2016 07:05

Sounds like a good plan for the wedding Laska, and great news about the dress.

I went to a wedding when just a few weeks pregnant and managed to not drink without anyone noticing. Had a glass of wine at the meal, which I had some sips of with water. A sip of the fizz for the toast. Held a glass of wine whilst mingling the rest of the night. Bit different as I didn't want to drink but I expected people to notice and no one did as I never turned down a drink, just kept passing them to DH.

Back down to my weight from Sunday this morning, now I'm going to try not to weigh again until Sunday to see what I can do in the next few days.

Obs2016 · 17/03/2016 09:33

yesterday I bought all the things I needed for Easter: all the things I'd been missing: red wine, lindt big red balls, oreo chocolate easter eggs, cadburys classic biscuits, Jacobs mint biscuit.

I have been good recently. My blood sugars have been superb and even my pump specialist nurse is impressed with my downloads.

But I did decided that I had really missed potatoes. So I bought sausages, mash, peas and gravy. For dinner tonight.

Oh actually, I am going out for a curry and wine with the school mums tonight.
oh.
And this weekend, its my best friends hen.

so maybe I need to cut myself a bit of slack for these?

GlindatheFairy · 17/03/2016 15:28

OK I've kicked myself up the bum and have started recording my food again on MFP, giving myself 1600 calories a day. I only record exercise when I've done a proper gym workout or run, and will only eat the extra on those days if I need to. I am 13st 11lbs - first goal is to get to 13st. As for a longer term goal I'd see how I felt when I get to BMI 25 which would be at around the 11 and a half stone mark.

so maybe I need to cut myself a bit of slack for these?

I agree. Make sensible choices but don't make yourself miserable at these dos. One things is to not match drinks with the others and have a glass of water or lime and soda every other drink. Cheaper too!

GlindatheFairy · 17/03/2016 15:31

Borderline obese Shock- I had got to 14st 5lbs though in December. I have lost some through exercise.

H3l3naGraham · 17/03/2016 15:50

Hi obs2016 I also have an unavoidable curry night next week with a mate who lives abroad where there are no curry-houses, he can't get enough of the stuff when he's over here! I have decided to have tandoori prawns as a starter & chicken Jalfrezi as a main, hardly exciting but I can actually monitor the food better that way and these have to be 2 of the healthiest options methinks; I will not miss the rice but shall have to sit on my hands when they pass the flatbreads around...

yumyumpoppycat · 17/03/2016 16:24

OOh yes the breads...peshwari naan. I love tandoori!! curry is practically a sirtfood isnt it H?

Obs maybe it would be worth setting aside some days where you stick with low carbs and 800 cals and some days in advance where you can have some off plan things.

I have had a bit of a day off today as my 800 is done!! I have gone from 172 ish to 148.6 so really pleased. If I can lose about 3 more lbs I will be a healthy weight according to nhs. My waist needs work at but is less than half my height.

yumyumpoppycat · 17/03/2016 16:48

Sorry I meant my 8 weeks are done not my 800!

Obs2016 · 17/03/2016 17:11

Yes thanks you 3 for advice on curry.
Well done yummy on the 8 weeks.

I too am past 8 weeks, but have decided to continue, to get that second stone lost.

H3l3naGraham · 17/03/2016 17:14

Hi yumyumpoppycat I can certainly see where you are coming from re Sirt & Curry, but not convinced the vats of ghee used in so many curry-houses fall into any diet to be honest, which is why I am going to eat food I can see as opposed to pick it out of the sauce!!!

8 weeks, well done! I'm really at the start of this diet-journey and am wondering where I'll be in 8 weeks time, in tinier knickers hopefully - I shall then burn a pair of my Bridget-Jones ones as a symbolic offering to MM & the BSD gurus!
